3 out of 5 eggsDisapointment

Pros: Price - I got a refurb for about 2x the cost of the OS. Unit has a lot of great hardware features I'm hoping iOS Maverick or Ubuntu will take advantage of. Decent battery life, great display.

Cons: First problem: Windows 8. Not sure if W8 is the core of the problem or Dell built a really underpowered unit, but it's a dog. I hate using this unit because of the interface and the lousy, horrible, hair tearing response time. I'm back on Newegg shopping for a memory upgrade from 8 to 16 and an SSD. I'm guessing it's mostly W8. The trackpad is nice, but it's location and size mean you hit it unintentionally quite often which is frustrating, so I shut it off. The USB ports are located in terrible positions on the right, with one often getting mistaken for the ethernet port and the other interfering with a right hand mouse. The left's are better, but that side is crowded so that wider connectors interfere with each other. Where to locate a headphone jack is always problematic. Mic and speaker tech is not up to Apple standards, but tolerable. For $400, not a bad pick, but you're not getting a graceful machine here. You're going to need a bigger case to carry it (as with any 17, this is just a reminder).

Other Thoughts: Windows 8 is the worst virus to be found in the wild since Windows Vista, and quite possibly is worse than the dread virus Windows Bob. I'll repost once I get the OS issues straightened out.

4 out of 5 eggsDude I got a Dell...

Pros: Beautiful massive 17" screen, full size keyboard.
Dedicated 630M makes it at least somewhat gaming capable. i7, 600 bucks...

Cons: It's big, really big. If you're looking for something really portable you might want to go with a 15.6" otherwise this makes a great desktop replacement that you can still throw in a backpack.

Windows 8 :/

Takes a while to boot.

Absolutely FULL of Dell bloat software. I uninstalled all of it and noticed a performance increase.

I'm also noticing periods of slow-downs and freezes while the hard drive churns. I'm not sure if its hardware or software related, and it's usually right around boot time. I think I'm going to put Windows 7 on it like a civilized person.

Other Thoughts: Bought this laptop to play WoW, D3, and League on while im out of town. It's going to serve that purpose well, I havn't tried D3 or LoL but wow runs fine with shadows off @ 60fps, around 20fps in LFR. I don't really play the more GPU intense games like Crysis or BF, besides, I have a desktop for that :)

For what I paid, I think I got a lot of bang for my buck!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: The screen is big
The keyboard is full size
The computer is decent for the price

Cons: The advertisement states that it has a core i7 3630QM. This is wrong because I have a 3632QM. This is slightly different because the 3630QM has 2.40 GHz and the 3632QM operates at 2.20 GHz.

The touch pad sometimes does not recognize that I am touching it unless I remove my finger and try again.
