4 out of 5 eggsInitial Review

Pros: 95% of Everything.
USB+Other Ports
Dual Hard Drive Bays

Cons: Annoying Media Buttons BEEP. But I've found a resolution to this problem.

Did not come with Secondary Hard Drive Caddy. This isn't a MAJOR deal, but when you show off two Hard Drive Bays, it'd be nice to at least point out where we can get the second hard drive Caddy/Bracket, if you couldn't possibly include it after we pay $1500. HAHA!

I had to browse for about ten minutes to find what I was looking for, but boy can I imagine lesser-savvy customers getting frustrated over this.

Other Thoughts: Purchased from a reliable online store.

Toshiba Support is very courteous and patient. Exercise your respect for others and that respect will be returned to you.

I will report back on my findings a year from now, assuming it doesn't explode before then.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent performer and great value

Pros: Needed a new laptop with illuminated keyboard and high performing chip for running Photoshop. This thing is amazing. It met all my needs and more. Even watched a Blu-Ray movie on it and was very impressed. Aesthetically, it looks sharp.

Cons: heavy power supply, but this is a big LCD monitor that requires some serious power

Other Thoughts: I do astrophotography, so I needed something that I can use in dark skies (hence the illuminated keyboard) and process large astrophoto images. What I got was that and more. Sound quality out of H/K speakers is superb. LCD monitor is nice.

5 out of 5 eggsQosmio Gaming Monster

Pros: Desktop replacement with graphics of a desktop gaming system. The Q8102X has an i7 Sandy Bridge, 6GB DDR3 main system memory, Geforce GTX 460M graphics, Blue ray, huge screen, very good speakers/sound for a laptop. We got this laptop for it's ability to play games at ultra high settings and once drivers were updated it has performed for all our games as hoped. Rift/WOW run on ultra high settings making the games look awesome. The only bottleneck for this system is the internet for these online games. The quad core Sandy Bridge i7 seems to live up to the hype, running multiple applications is a breeze.

Cons: It is heavy, if you cannot lift 20lbs without a problem this monster is not for you!

Other Thoughts: It's got all the power 99.9% of us will ever need. Add a 2TB external hard drive and this thing is a dream machine!

Pros: >Price is GREAT for what you get! And as always, Newegg has the best prices out there.
>Absolutely NO CLUTTER on your desktop screen with advertising software (only the recycle bin) KUDOS to Toshiba! (Although, there is advertising software packaged in the laptop, but at least it's not cluttered on your desktop screen)
>Back lit keyboard...Nothing else to say, but TWO THUMBS UP!!
>VERY LARGE screen
>Full size keyboard (for those with large hands or those that cannot type on those half wit keyboards)
>Sound quality is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
>High quality in the design of the laptop power plug, it doesn't feel flimsy like other laptop plugs.
>The Toshiba recovery software is very easy to use and straightforward (Yes, I tested it as soon as I opened the box!)
>The bottom of the laptop does NOT get very hot at all due to the unique design of the airflow, the hot air is blown straight out the back through two slit, so this feature is GREAT for folks that like to have their work in their

Cons: >Weight (It's a beast! Probably the heaviest laptop I've owned) *See other thoughts below*
>Size (Yes, it's quite large and a bit bulky) *See other thoughts below*
>The screen does NOT fasten/hook to the base/keyboard when closing it after use(although some may prefer this sort of design)
>Not very many choices of cases available for this size of laptop, but they are out there! I just ordered one from Newegg, I can reassure you that you won't find one through any brick and mortar store. So, if you decide to purchase this beast, make sure to snag a case with your order, especially if you want to protect it!

Other Thoughts: This laptop is a BEAST! But, it's size isn't necessarily a problem, especially considering Toshiba designed this thing to completely replace your desktop and they did a fine job at that! It has much of the latest and greatest technology and features available for the moderate laptop user. The laptop comes with an expansion slot for a spare hard drive. So, I've already ordered an SSD which I anticipate will just make this an over-the-top laptop! I can promise you that this thing will handle anything you throw at it and then some. Bottom line, if you prefer a large screen and a full size keyboard (great for heavy typing!), this is totally the laptop to buy right now! And it's great to finally have a laptop that doesn't cook your thighs as you are working!

5 out of 5 eggsSandy Paradise

Pros: Sandy Bridge! Bluray! 18.4" display! Backlit keyboard! Solid build quality, lightning fast performance. . .and Sandy Bridge benefits are totally apparent, in surprising battery life and cool operation. I dig the media touch controls, too. . .very convenient.

If you waited for SB, you'll be pleased. Reward youself with this incredible machine.

Cons: There are no cons. Anyone complaining about the weight of this thing should get a fishslap. . .this machine is a no-compromise beast that will CRUSH most desktops.

Other Thoughts: Fantastic notebook. I have been eyeing Qosmio for over six months, and almost got one in the fall, but decided to wait for the new Intel architechture. I'm glad I did. . .this is the first time my laptop has outperformed my main desktop (a mere Core Duo, i975x, 5700 Crossfire, Raptors in RAID0). Could NOT be happier, especially at this price point.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressive Desktop Replacement

Pros: Summary
I have been in IT for 30 years and when my wife first saw this 'notebook', she fell in love. I was skeptical at first but when we got it home (sticker-shock!), I was </i>very</i> impressed!

Great Feel and Connectivity
The system is very well thought out from a human factors standpoint. The keyboard has a very natural feel to it and lights up for use in dim or no light situations...very nice touch. Being a geek, I have to love the "auto-throttle" CPU going from 1.8Ghz at rest to up to 2.4Ghz under load with all eight threads! (4 cores with hyper-threading).

Although there is some bloatware on the system, it seems to be easily removed although I will need more time to see what else shows up after a month or two of ownership. The system integrated into my home network easily after supplying the correct network credentials and workgroup password.

Great buy even at the high, premium, price-point.

Cons: Summary
The overall thing is big. Not luggable-big for those old enough to remember the old Compaq's lol but big enough to make you go..."it's big". At 10lbs+, it isn't going to replace anyone's fondness of netbooks anytime soon.

Having said that, I cannot find much not to like about this purchase thus far.

Other Thoughts: My wife loves the look of the red Qosmio and the Harmon/Kardon sound. I have been a H&K fan for years and have several H/K receivers and swear by them. The sound system in this unit does not disappoint as long as your expectation levels are set correctly (it isn't a Velodyne subwoofer lol).
