1 out of 5 eggsPower Button Failed

Pros: Nice Tablet - capable of almost anything, particularly like the USB and SDXC interfaces

Cons: The big con is that the power button failed after less than a year. Taking it apart and inspecting shows it to be a fairly low quality switch - sigh - this button is pressed all the time to wake the unit up, it should be more durable. only other con is that it is a little thick due to the rear cover being removable oh and Skype support was non-existent for the tegra 2 chip (may be fixed now...) - would be a 4 star toy were it not for the power button issue...

5 out of 5 eggsA Real PC-Tablet

Pros: I've this 32gb Thrive Tablet and the Lenovo Thinkpad 32gb Android Tablet-- both have the unmoveable "CARD Games" I used my Android Thinkpad tablet for work because that is made for Professional (Name Brand) since the Ancient IBM tablet-Laptop...and my fanily and myself used the Toshiba thrive to play games and watch free online P2P dvd movies and Asian TV soap program from ( PPTV from the Google markek/Play stores) The webcams are just as good like all other Android Tablets... I dont like Sexy Slim Thin tablets ...because American Society promote Sexy Slimness for the Women only ,anyone recalled the good old Virginian Slim cigarettes ads on TV & Magazines ... Toshiba will support this 10" Thrive Tablet with The new Ice-Cream Sandwich Updates at the End of Spring... Me and my Family love The Thrive for the past 14 months used daily and is going strong ---with those Low cost removable colorful backcovers / removable Battery plus all wired connection with Docking station

1 out of 5 eggsToshiba will not support this device

Pros: I bought for the standard feature set plus full-size HDMI, USB, and replaceable battery.

Cons: Toshiba pre-installed 3rd party applications as core system files, which makes them uninstallable. These games and utilities run automatically, and have been given storage, network, and other access to the device which makes them clear security threats. Toshiba support calls to find a solution to remove these threats have been horrible. They refuse to return phone calls as promised, fail to answer clear support questions, and have intentionally cut me off. They accept no responsibility for hindering their device with these non-essential applications, yet give repeated warnings that rooting the device will void the warranty. Toshiba gives no justification for any of this, which forces me to consider their motivation as profit alone.

Other Thoughts: For this device, Toshiba has intentionally introduced security issues, hindered its operation, and thus falsely advertised its specifications. Though they acknowledge these facts, they refuse to offer any resolution. I must therefore hold the device a security risk for storing and interacting with my personal and business private data - which makes the device practically useless. I recommend you consider other devices.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Fast and smooth. Screen is bright clear and smooth to touch. Full size SD card slot is perfect. USB port works fine for most purposes. Basically the device is perfect for browsing the web, watching videos (not sound.. see cons below) and viewing pictures. I don't play games on it so i have no opinion on that.

Cons: Audio, audio audio.... Why couldn't Toshiba engineers take the extra time to test the audio thoroughly? The problem is that the headphone (3.5 mm) audio output is not loud enough. At max volume levels, the outputted audio is so faint that the device is useless for watching movies/videos and listing to music. If you are in a a quiet room, it is okay. If there is a little bit of background noise, it is absolutely impossible to hear the sound. I tried to watch a movie on a flight, I could barely hear anything. This is really the major deal breaker with the thrive. One of the main purposes of having a tablet is for multimedia use.

BTW I am not the only one who noticed this issue. Toshiba knows about it.

Another complaint is that the USB port won't read Hard Drives unless they are formatted with FAT. NTFS drives can not be accessed via the USB port. Who still uses FAT file system anymore?

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't for the low audio levels, I'd be happy with the thrive, now I want to sell it for a loss and by something else.

1 out of 5 eggsanother 32GB ripoff

Pros: 16GB model is reasonable

Cons: $120 for an additional 16GB is serious ripoff

Other Thoughts: You're basically paying $120 for toshiba to include a $25 memory chip instead of a $15 chip. Unless you need more than 48GB (16 internal, 32 on sd card) flash storage, there is no good reason to buy this model.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat tablet

Pros: 16:10 screen, full size USB and Sd ports, a replaceable battery and a grippy shell. Runs fast, fits well in your hands.

Cons: None. It's all you'd want in a tablet and much more than most tablets offer.

Other Thoughts: People knock it for it's thickness and weight, but it's not that thick and not that heavy, unless you have the hands of a 5 yr old and the weakness of one who hasn't eaten in a month. If you want ultra light, you can go buy a tablet that is light and thin, and you'll sacrifice the stuff that makes this thrive great... full size ports and a replaceable grippy back and the battery. Heavy is relative, an iPad is like a slab of lead, but its thin and you can't get a natural grip on it. For its size, the thrive feels fairly light.
Screen sizes are important, the thrive's 16:10 is almost the same as a TV's 16:9 so, video fits the screen.
The ability to swap data via the SD and USB is priceless, not to mention that the USB runs most USB devices from hard drives to keyboards.
The SD card slot allows you to expand the memory up as far as you can afford to with a standard SD card.
I use it all the time now, I haven't found a single thing bad about it.
