2 out of 5 eggsBlack Friday

Pros: Cheap, not too heavy, and easy to use. Good for someone like your grandma.

Cons: It is flimsy, wireless card damage is easy to deal. Absolutely TERRIBLE for any activities other than surfing the web and using MS Office. Can't run most basic games (MineCraft, etc.) without intense lag. AMD E-Series is an extremely slow processor, frequently going to 90+% utilization when just on Chrome.

Other Thoughts: Note: I had Win8 on it, but still same computer.

2 out of 5 eggsThe engine that sometimes can't

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: It is slooooow. Every once in a while it will choke opening a media file. The factory HDD went kaput within a couple weeks. Replaced it with an SSD and it is much faster but nowhere near a quad core notebook. The screen picture gets a C-. Everything looks sort of washed out. Flimsy plastic. I bought it as a "junker" so aside from the HDD failure it serves its purpose.

1 out of 5 eggsFast, Flimsy Laptop

Pros: Fully convinced that Windows (all versions) and Mac OS X (all versions) are worthless operating systems as far as security goes, I decided to buy a cheap laptop and install Debian. Why pay more for a Mac if you're going to install something better?

Therefore, I bought a Toshiba Satellite, (Model-Part Number: PSC16U-03504W), aka C655D, for $357 and installed Debian, and everything was great for about a year. The CPU is fast enough for everything and the wireless works well.

Cons: The pathetic, plastic casing on this laptop is worthless. Opening and closing the lid creates small, internal cracks. Then it literally falls apart. This is NOT a case of screws getting loose. This laptop was not dropped or exposed to low or high temperature, etc.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this laptop unless you are going to keep the lid open or closed all the time.

Many Toshiba Satellite have problems from opening and closing the lid.

4 out of 5 eggsLight weight Laptop

Pros: Test drove this little puppy before. Good for casual uses such as watching video or surfing the net. It's not meant for mid duty applications.

Cons: E series is comparable to the intel's version of atom processor... which is slow... Not my kind of cpu.

Other Thoughts: Remember it is an E-Series processor meant for saving battery life and casual net surfing. Not your typical average laptop. the only thing that's average is the 15.6in screen and the radeon gpu.

4 out of 5 eggsPerforms as expected

Pros: Bought for my sister to use @ school. It was cost efficient and handles all her needs. Surfs the net and runs microsoft office flawless. This unit was priced right for her needs. I own two toshiba satelites and am very pleased with them.

Cons: Comes loaded with stupid toshiba software that nobody wants. Easily removed though.

Other Thoughts: I have read some reviews about people not liking the keyboard on the satelites. To each their own I guess. I really like the keyboards. Also i read that spme people say they look and or feel cheap. I dissagree. I think they are pretty well built and seem sturdy. Maybe thats just me coming from a flimsy junk DELL. In my opinion thats a garbage cheap feeling hunk of junk laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsPoorest quality I've ever seen

Pros: Large display, inexpensive

Cons: Unreliable hardware, poor service

Other Thoughts: I owned this laptop for less than 2 weeks before the built-in display went dark. There was no physical trauma to the system whatsoever, it just quit working. When I called Toshiba, they referred me to their repair service, expecting me to pay for the repair rather than cover it under warranty. No thank you. I called it a total loss. Do yourself a favor and get something else.

1 out of 5 eggsRegret this purchase

Pros: None

Cons: Because of shared video memory, the system only recognizes 748mb of RAM available for Windows. This brings the system to a screeching halt if any application is run.

No hdd light, so most time is spent waiting and wonder if the system is locked up.

Bought for a tertiary shipping computer and there isn't enough RAM available to print a standard java applet shipping label.

Basically a useless laptop. Not many applications work with 748MB of Memory.

I'm curious how Windows 7 was allowed to be certified on this hardware.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Laptop worked great for the first hour, I guess that's a pro....

Cons: Got this laptop and it worked great...for 3 hours. Keyboard stopped working altogether, the whole thing was rendered completely useless within the first 36 hours that I had it. We returned it, got a full refund, so at least there's that.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for (grand)parents

Pros: I bought one of these very laptops for my grandparents and recommended another to my parents this past Christmas before Newegg had it.

It's about what you'd expect for what it is: light, quiet, and more flimsy than higher dollar units. Battery holds a charge at the Windows desktop for ~5 hours, 2/3 screen brightness or so. Comes with Google Chrome and a couple other handy programs pre-installed and not much in the way of bloatware.

Cons: My biggest three complaints about this netbook are about the keyboard, touchpad, and speakers. (yeah. more or less the three top things that you want to work well.)

- Keyboard feels like I'm typing on a loaf of bread; keys are just mushy feeling with no nice clicky feedback.
- Touchpad is extremely finicky, it will speed up, slow down, and jump past where you want it to be frequently with only one finger on it and nothing else nearby.
- Speakers are noticeably underpowered even at maximum volume; my grandma had a hard time hearing what people were saying in Skype calls. My Thinkpad x61s is louder with only one speaker.

Other Thoughts: After a wireless USB mouse and plugging in a pair of speakers for my grandparents, they're liking this laptop. Of course, doing that makes me wonder why they didn't just want a desktop instead, but who knows.

My parents complain about the touchpad now that they've been spoiled for the past two years by their Thinkpad T41's pinpoint-accurate Synaptics touchpad, but it's usable.
