5 out of 5 eggsIt worked well !

Pros: 1. It runs windows - I didn't have to learn new stuff. Yay !!!

Cons: 1. Bought this long before windows 8 came along with it's touchy feely color tile interface. Windows 7 on a touch screen - was OK, but not great.
2. A bit heavy. When using lying on my back in bed at night, it would fall on my face whenever I dozed off. Heck of a way to be awakened - a tablet crashing onto your nose is not fun.

Other Thoughts: I sold this nice tablet after six or eight months to a nice kid that was going to use it for college and med school.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Works great, and works much better and smoother with Windows 8 preview (15 minutes to install). Great battery life, super fast boot/restart. Easy to attach/remove keyboard. High density of resolution, enough to do development work.

Cons: Keys are less responsive that I would prefer, have a tendency to register key strokes, so typing feels more like playing a piano. Due to high pixel density, it can be difficult to precisely hit tiny checkboxes or the close mark on chrome tabs. Not really possible to fix without downgrading the screen, considering getting a style. All other issues are all to do with Windows 8, which the product didn't come with.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend installing windows 8. Don't even bother booting windows 7, its setup takes longer than a fresh install of windows 8, which is much(like way huge) faster and responsive to touch input. The only problem found is without a keyboard I cannot pick from a dropdown list on a web page, which is an issue of windows 8 and google chrome touch, not the tablet.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's Windows!! I was undecided between buying an IPad or this unit. They were priced very similar but being a techie I didn't like the thought of an IPad and not being able to customize it and be limited to 16GB. I have had this running now for 6 hours. Performed an image back up out of the box and then started uninstalling bloatware and stopped services I didn't need. This is running like a charm.

Cons: 32GB SSD but that is upgradeable
Weight of the unit is a little heavy and top heavy when plugged into the keyboard dock. Need to be careful lifting the unit while it's docked because it will tip over.

Other Thoughts: Next up I am going to upgrade to 120GB SSD. If you decide to do this make sure to google the instructions on the tablet because taking it apart can be a little tricky and it's easy to break the clips...so I am told.

As I write this I am streaming Band of Brothers from Xfinitytv. Video was a little choppy at first but after a minute or so it smoothed out and played flawlessly.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Tab, Tough Design

Pros: * Good processing power, can play light games well
* Built-in keyboard case is functional and helpful
* So many USB ports!

Cons: * Very heavy for a tablet
* 32 GB is barely enough for a good OS these days, forget games
* Back case is a HUGE PAIN to remove
* Can't upgrade RAM
* Need to buy a separate USB DVD drive to use recovery discs!

Other Thoughts: I tried replacing the SSD with a larger 64 bit one, and I'm still having problems getting the thing working. Be warned - it's not as easy as the other reviews may suggest; you'll need some significant technical know-how. Acer customer support isn't particularly helpful, either.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Win7 Tablet

Pros: Works better than expected, even with Win7. The touch sceen performs well, considering that Win7 is not really designed for touch. I managed to adapt to it quickly. I did buy a small soft-tip stylus just to keep the screen cleaner.

Cons: The screnn should be GLASS. What were they thinking? But, for the price, gt is acceptable. Bought a 128 GB SD card. The SSD is too small for a Win7 machine.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend it

5 out of 5 eggsWow.

Pros: -Win 7
-Great price/performance
-Comes with keyboard/dock
-Convenience of a tablet without settling for limited capabilities

Cons: -Nothing major. If I was searching for a reason to whine I might mention that it is a bit heavier than I would like.
-Typical bloatware. As with most computers, uninstall the bloatware for peak performance.

Other Thoughts: Compared to an iPad this has 4x the RAM and twice the HDD capacity for over $100 less. Uninstall the bloatware and Acer junk, install LibreOffice/OpenOffice, add Rocketdock for finger-friendly shortcuts/menu and you now have a fully functioning PC in the tablet form factor. Why settle for a crippled, incompatible children's toy like the iPad when you can save $100+ and have this?

4 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Good value as Windows 7 tablet. Keyboard really handy at times. Adequate number of ports. Battery life 4+ hours.
Tablet improved after putting in larger mSata 64gb SSD.
Even more improvement after installing Windows 8 consumer
preview - much more tablet friendly OS now. Faster boot time with Windows 8.
Works well as a reader. With headphones plugged in, I can listen to my network stored music collection - sounds good.

Cons: Some minor boot issues solved with Bios update.

Other Thoughts: I got this knowing that I would upgrade Windows to Windows 8 to improve the tablet experience. This may be the only computer in my house that I'll do the Window 8 upgrade to, at least for the near term.

5 out of 5 eggsYou won't be disappointed

Pros: I've had this since 12/2010. Good performance, This tablet is a really great value. The hardware is good quality and feel. Feature rich. And it works with Windows 8 Customer Preview.

Cons: Bluetooth doesn't turn back on automatically on Windows 7. Not sure if I haven't found where to change this, but I can't get bluetooth to enable automatically after I remove from keyboard and power plug. Good news is, after upgrading to Windows 8 Customer Preview the bluetooth stays working so non-issue for me.
Lack of control of wireless network settings. There doesn't appear to be anywhere you can control connection speed or force it to use N. Doesn't seem to be a problem because it connects with best speed, but my dlink draft N router only connects at 45mbs where as my neighbors Netgear N600 connected at 145mbs. So I wanted to play with settings to see if I could get more speed for streaming Media Center.

Other Thoughts: I use Media Center with Cable tuners on my network and it streams TV programs through Media Center just fine. Sometimes it starts a little choppy, nothing a pause and resume doesn't fix and it clears up. Not sure if just my network connection speed or CPU utilization but it levels out so usually not a problem.
Frankly this W500 is an amazing device, and I can see one day where we opt to use tablet over PC. Although the 32GB SSD is a little limiting, all the tablets seem to have this limitation. I installed a 64GB SD card but since most of my games are on Steam, and it won't let you install on SD card hasn't been a help except for personal data. I plan on upgrading the SSD myself once the warranty expires, for now it's not that limiting as I don't have that much on it yet. Installed world of goo and other tablet games and they are amazing.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat first WinTab

Pros: Windows OS!
Windows 7 works just fine a stylus is handy, Win8 will be great for the finger touchers-

Upgradeable to Win8 (tried the developer editon on it, loaded fine!)

lose a pound and it is a 5!

Cons: a bit thick
a bit heavy

Other Thoughts: great first win tab at a reasonable price, it is a bit on the heavy side when holding with one hand. not as elecgant at the iPAD but WAY more useful!
