5 out of 5 eggs5 eggs all the way

Pros: Graphics smaphics. Don't listen to Chumly in regards to graphics. My thoughts are if you can't download, upgrade and implement internet usage to improve your machine, you truly have no right being on one. This laptop is everything and more. I bought 2 sticks of 2 X 4gb ram and replaced the 5400 rmp drive with a 320gb 7200. Used the original as a fantastic external drive. The machine is perfect. Couldn't recommend it highly enough or 10 would be an option!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: increase your ram to 8. Replace the HDD with a 7200 rpm. Use the old/original hdd for a backup/external.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent gaming/multipurpose laptop

Pros: Appearance - The shell of the laptop is a sophisticated gray with a nice texturing that I wasn't sure about at first but that has really grown on me. The chiclet keyboard is very easy to use but if you don't like chiclet keys this one probably won't change your mind.

Sound - The Virtual SurroundSound speakers sound very nice. It gets quite loud at max volume, too. Louder than you'd probably want it if you were sitting directly in front of it but a nice option for if you're trying to fill a room with sound etc.

Speed - I can't speak to heavy rendering or anything like that but it handles the rigors of everyday use without breaking a sweat. Haven't heard the fan yet.

About the same weight and size of a Macbook Pro, it's portable without feeling cramped.

Cons: The Nvidia GPU, while pretty good at choosing which programs to activate for, isn't perfect. It didn't recognize Minecraft as a program requiring the GPU, and adding the .exe to the list of exceptions didn't help. Switching the global settings to use Nvidia solved it, but I wouldn't expect someone who isn't computer savvy to troubleshoot this sort of thing successfully. If you're shopping for your little brother or mom or something.

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop as a desktop replacement without wanting to get a "desktop replacement laptop", if that makes sense. It's the perfect size for mobile computing/gaming and the Nvidia card performs admirably. It runs Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on medium settings perfectly. I haven't tried it on max settings because I honestly don't need that to enjoy a bit of gaming wherever I choose.

Highly recommend for someone looking for a budget gaming/mobile workstation.

3 out of 5 eggsBEWARE

Pros: Great stats for a budget price. Looking forward to what this has to offer IF I can get my issues fixed.

Cons: BUYER BEWARE!! Right out of the box, this thing did not come with working NVidia drivers for the Geforce GT 540M that was included. By default, the laptop was only using the Intel HD. This was immediately apparent when trying to play an MMO and getting 5 fps on medium settings. I am currently in the process of DLing drivers straight from NVidia (which is a nightmare to navigate). I found a post in which this was a HUGE Nvidia problem at least as far back as March 2011 in which buyers of various laptops had to wait for them to put out drivers for a card that they had already distributed. This is my second huge upset with them, and I will strongly oppose NVidia graphics from now on.

Also, during the initial setup of this laptop, it crashed. Started up fine afterward. Hope that was just a fluke.

5 out of 5 eggsHits all the right spots

Pros: I'm impressed with the build quality of this laptop. It's perfect for school (studying engineering) with the numeric keypad. I am also happy that it works well for gaming it can run crysis 2 on high, but there is a bit of latency so I play it on medium and it still looks great. It can also run the witcher 2 on low, almost perfectly. Games like tf2 max out at 120fps, (vsync off) Make sure to update drivers to the latest to improve graphics performance. I'm pretty sure it should be able to handle skyrim when it comes out and any new games for a while to come (hopefully). Maybe not the best, but for the price it is still very good. Specs wise, core i7 and gt540m are the best that I could find at this price on newegg. HDMI, usb 3.0, webcam

Cons: Bloatware has to be uninstalled (annoying). 5400rpm hd is meh but I can live with it. It only affects loading times but it still runs everything fine. The microphone is bad but I didn't expect much from it anyways

Other Thoughts: Still need to test out the adobe suite, might have to update later.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent budget gaming laptop

Pros: *Fast CPU and GPU means good framerate in games, even with high quality, AA, etc.
*Motherboard supports DDR3-1333 speeds and 8 GiB if you want to upgrade (but the RAM it comes with is 4 GiB of DDR3-1066).
*Reasonably attractive looking.
*USB 3.0
*Supports Nvidia's reference drivers, so you don't have to wait for Acer to put out their own builds.

Cons: *Ugly 1366x768 screen with signficant discoloration at different viewing angles (especially vertical), which is probably an expected compromise at this price point. It's usable, and looks OK when it's angled right, but definitely not impressive. No stuck pixels, though.
*Slow 5400 rpm hard drive.
*Gets hot under load.
*Keyboard layout takes some getting used to (LCtrl should be bigger and I still have to glance at the keys to find the Delete key).

Other Thoughts: A nearly perfect budget gaming laptop. Would have preferred a nicer screen and a faster hard drive, but not enough to spend more. Recommended for gamers on a budget. Non-gamers might prefer instead to compromise on the CPU and GPU to get a nicer screen.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great design
-good keyboard
-great gfx
-bought it on sale for $749.99
-very well packaged, I was surprised myself when I opened up the box

Cons: -Nvidia optimus makes it annoying to always use the GT 540M card... that's about it
-keyboard seems like it maybe easily break because they are suspended flat panels, not sure if they will but be cautious

Other Thoughts: If you want to guarantee that you're using the Nvidia GeForce GT 540M card, you'll have to manually set your game clients to use it in the Nvidia control panel. Can be annoying but no trouble at all.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer impresses once more

Pros: +15.6" LCD for your viewing Pleasure
+ USB 3.0 (1 slot)
+ DVD Multi Drive
+ HDMI/VGA Output
+ 540 GT M Grpahics

Cons: - Average Battery Life
- Akward Key design
- Akward Touchpad Location
- only 4GB DDR3-1066
- 5400 RPM Drive

Other Thoughts: I purchased this laptop as a relocatable pc for average use, whether it be gaming or working. Now, I wouldnt recommend it to play any hgih end games (crysis, etc) but it should be able to play most of the games on the market at medium settings easily.

For the Cost to Performance ratio, This option is NOT bad at 750$ (at the time of this review). I paid 800$ at <insert PC store here> for the same product (simply because I dont trust my local delivery men), but I dont feel ripped off for such a excellent product.

Theres better out there, but I feel that this is that "second best, if not the best" option.

I'll review again in a month or two as a follow up

oh and cuz I gotta....

<no rash remarks on the name.>
