5 out of 5 eggssolid

Pros: build quality, price. Blows away other "netbooks" in this price range, and with a bit more RAM it performs great!

Cons: touchpad scrolling awkward / unresponsive...
As others have stated, lots of bloatware.
Graphics performance is it's main weak point, but it should be fine for basic web browsing & video playback.

Other Thoughts: purchased this elsewhere, refurb, for cheap.. replaced ram w/ a generic 8GB (2x4GB DDR3-1333 204-pin SODIMM) kit for just $35.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, just add RAM

Pros: Great size, larger than an average netbook but still ultra-portable. Keyboard is full-size and has good feedback, and screen is bright and easy to read. Very lightweight, and yet still sporting an i3 processor rather than a puny Atom or E series.

Cons: Comes with a miserably low amount of RAM for running the included operating system, which is Windows 7 Home. As a result it really slogs along until you upgrade, which makes a world of difference.

The display is bright, but it's also glossy, and the reflection can be quite bad. HD videos stutter in VLC until you futz with the settings, at which point they work fine; I haven't figured out how to get Netflix HD to stream without the same stuttering, much to my frustration.

Other Thoughts: As someone who has used many netbooks, i3-330UM definitely makes its presence felt and rises about the competition. But you're still getting very basic graphics capability, and while you can play videos just fine, forget about playing any games more recent than Half Life 2.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good Small Laptop

Pros: Almost all.

Cons: The amount of ram.
The trackpad is a little weird (until you get used to)

Other Thoughts: This machine exceeded my expectations. It's a well done machine, a good hardware (you can add 4 gb of ram for $21, It has an extra empty ram slot).
Recommended for sure!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat small laptop for the money

Pros: Matte finished lid, solid build and great build quality. I could not find any blems or build problems. Much faster than my old Intel SU4100 version of the same laptop. Easy to upgrade RAM to 4-Gb. 3G capability is a real bonus - but the modem appears to be locked to AT&T. Well-built and well-designed power brick and input - much, much better design than the cheap tiny input doohickey on small A*US laptops. Nice keyboard with only a little flex.

Cons: Narrow viewing angles on the LCD - and colors look muted - but what do you expect for the price? Sound is weak - but not bad considering 11.6-inch screen size (small speakers). Too much junkware but not as bad as in the past.

Other Thoughts: No prob lems with RAM upgrade - I swiped a 2-Gb DDR3 chip from my Mac Mini. System booted up fine and recognized all 4-Gb. If it weren't for the subpar LCD - this is almost a poor man's MB Air. I bought this for a high-school age relative - I liked it enough that I'm buying one for myself!

4 out of 5 eggsFollow up- love it

Pros: What I want in a portable. Small, light, good screen. Carry this all day at slightly over three pounds, mo' better than my five pound 14" and more capable than my netbook. This is my fourth Acer laptop and they are bullet proof. Plays movies fine, I don't game. I upgraded mem to 4G with Egg's Samsung chip, which went on sale the next day less 25%.

Cons: Minus one egg for Acer's horrid tech support for this model. Of course, that implies that there is TS. See my previous post. Documentation says two mem chips. There is only one. No mention of max memory. OEM chip has an "S" in the spec line. That means you best upgrade with a chip that has that "S". No "S", may not boot.

Other Thoughts: I have upgraded memory on numerous laptops. Macs and Windoze laptops may or not share a SODIMM. Read mem specs carefully, which is where TS helps. I have bought name chips that don't boot. I popped the case and read the chip. Then I looked at every 4G chip on Egg, using the zoom feature. Thank you, Egg! Only the Samsung had the "S".

1 out of 5 eggsPreliminary Review

Pros: I have yet to fire it up. I have the netbook version of this unit and love it. I expect this unit to serve me well.

Cons: Acer web based tech support is, to be kind, dysfunctional. It asks you to sign in repeatedly then says you are invalid. Chat never picks up. This model does not exist on their website. All you can get is a generic 1830 document that does not cover this unit. All I want to know is the max installable memory. No specs exist for this model. Chat? Email? Fogeddaboutit. I will try phone support and edit this review. For now, don't expect support from Acer

Other Thoughts: This is a single chip memory model. The documentation talks of dual chips.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat little Laptop, love it!!

Pros: 1. Light weight.
2. Product finished and color.
3. Battery life - 6 hours +.
4. Perfect 11.6" bright screen.

Cons: This is the 4th laptop computer that I've purchased from Newegg, none of them was registered nor with prior configured, but this was. I'm not very happy with this purchased, because it make me wonder that I'm getting a open box or refurbished item. This is a biggest "CON" that I have. I hope Newegg would come out a good explanation about it.

Other Thoughts: The main reason that I've purchased this laptop is to store photos and videos of my son, specially to play the HD short videos from my Canon SX230hs. When I use it to playback any 1080p video, it really can handle well and impressible. I wish that I could have waited a little bit more, because 5 days after I have purchased it; Newegg had a specially deal of $349. I wish Newegg could offer "Price Guaranty" in the future.
