5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Linux Machine

Pros: I purchased this computer from a small tech shop with the intention of running Linux on it. I was amazed at how fast this machine works. Great for gaming (Steam and WINE), video editing, 3d modeling and anything else I can throw at it. Great battery life and does not get hot compared to other laptops I have owned. The Linux kernel supports most of the hardware without any need to install a driver except where noted below.

Cons: You will need to obtain a WIFI driver for your Linux distribution. Ethernet is supported out of the box.

Other Thoughts: If you want a good bang for your buck and you are looking for a great computer to run Arch or Manjaro GNU/Linux on THIS IS THE MACHINE TO GET!

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Died!

Other Thoughts: My daughter is off at college. This computer never even made it through the second semester! Turns off suddenly and will not restart. Save your money!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget Laptop

Pros: It only cost $400, and I immediately maxed to 8GB RAM for $40 more cuz why not. After nuking (bye bloatware) and a fresh Windows7 install, this laptop is a dream. ACER conveniently provides all drivers on their site.

I even take it to LAN parties; it runs the older games we grew with on full settings without issues. Battery life is good enough to get through a 4hr college lecture and more to spare.

It keeps cool even when watching movies in bed.

Cons: Minor issue - the keyboard layout feels a little cramped but that's just personal preference

Other Thoughts: Originally, I purchased this laptop for school but have found it to be a great all-purpose tool. My other 5 year old laptop is an ACER and is still chugging away using Linux. ACER makes a great laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for cheap intro for Gaming

Pros: Great with Gaming plays just about any game though might not be in High quality it does not matter for me because I have tired of the Xbox 360

Cons: To be honest I do not have ANY complaints
paid around 400 bucks for this machine for a intro to pc gaming and it handles just that

only thing i might change on it would be the key board because trash/dust/anything and everything will find its way into the keyboard since the buttons are raised up and have a space below them but nothing a can of air and tilting the laptop sideways won't fix

1 out of 5 eggsTempting, but beware!

Pros: Very inexpensive laptop, quad-core, with Win7 (Win8 now with promotion). Good starter platform, with minimal bloatware - I had chosen this as a "starter" laptop for my middle school-aged child. As always with Newegg, ultra-fast shipping and excellent service.

Cons: Very disappointed with the overall platform and component integration. Windows 7 loadset has failed multiple times and even after several restores as well as a clean reload with MS TechNet media. I'm still having significant issues. Thus far, I have had:

1. Several unrecognized system components in the base loadset and even after loading ALL drivers from Acer's support site for this model
2. Unexplained freezes or hangs during normal operations, including the inability to fully shut down the system (hangs on final power off, requires a hold of the power button to fully shut down)
3. Very little manufacturer-provided support options, including the inability to obtain .INF or factor images for the base loadset. Additionally, driver packages seemed to be incomplete and there lacked an overall implementation priority or restoration guide following a clean install
4. A little bit picky, but the touchpad on the laptop was finicky; at times the corners responded slow or not at all and overall sensitivity was inconsistent. This was experienced with both the factory driver as well as Win7 drivers. I ultimately bought a USB keyboard and mouse combo to use with the system.
5. Finally ... and currently, the laptop will simply not load windows at all. Hangs following initial post, and even attempts to access BIOS-based boot order fail. This unit will be RMA'd ...

A minor nit is that the integrated graphics - which could be very good - is limited to 512MB. Not a huge deal with most day to day operations, but if you're looking for any graphics-intensive work, you may be better served by another platform.

Other Thoughts: I did notice that no more than two to three days following my purchase, Newegg discontinued this item. Kudos to them for taking this action, as this particular brand' s model isn't consistent with the quality and reliability I've come to depend on from Newegg. However, it was a bit frustrating as I would have likely chosen an alternative solution had I known ...

4 out of 5 eggsGood for price

Pros: Runs some games at a steady 20-40 FPS medium or low settings.
It's quiet.
Stays cool.
Great laptop for the price I got it at.

Cons: Feels extremely flimsy. I think one drop would do it in for good, although I'm the careful type so it shouldn't be a problem.

Lightly grazing the touchpad with the bottom of my portable HDD caused deep scratches. Refer to my previous complaint, flimsy. But you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal - Great Computer

Pros: Great Price. Reliable computer. Good capacity hard drive.
Good battery life.

Cons: Speaker not so great.

Other Thoughts: This is the second one I've purchased. Can't beat it for the price. One reviewer claimed it makes you install software. Not true. When it asks to install it, just click later, then go into add/remove programs and delete the program. I would also recommend going into add/remove programs and removing any program that isn't necessary. It took me about 45 minutes to delete all the bloatware. (some programs have to reboot after removal) but it is worth it, laptop runs Sooo much faster.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing price for a Good laptop

Pros: The computer has a lot of storage. It is fast with large programs that consume memory and processor speed such as games and cad-cam programs. The N wifi is fast and smooth with large up and downloads. Hate to say but the wifi is faster than my $1100 HP only 6 months old, go figure.

Cons: Haven't Found any yet.
