5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop out there for it's price!

Pros: 1.) VERY good laptop for the price!
2.) Even better after you upgrade to a 8GB RAM with crucial sticks.
3. Doesn't get too hot(gaming,idling)

Cons: Wish I've written the review earlier.

4 out of 5 eggsFew flaws but otherwise fantastic

Pros: Laptop has a lot of power to push out. Took my video encoding times down from 2:1 (two minutes per minute of video) to (1:4-6). Helps the software can use all four cores.
Dedicated graphics card is nice though I have not put it through it's paces with newer games.
Having a numeric keypad is a huge plus.
Majorly appreciate the single press Print Screen key. Having to hold Function to press Print Screen was never fun on the old laptop.

Cons: Major annoyances:
Acer does not provide a hardware manual for anyone who wants to do their own repairs/parts replacements. As someone who repairs laptops not having access to this without paying Acer to become a certified Acer repair person is a major annoyance. I hope by the time I need to replace something someone has leaked the manual.
Keyboard gets stuck keys easy causing dropped keypresses. Pressing the key a bit harder temporarily solves the problem. Might not matter as much if you type forcefully.

It is annoying that it is not possible to single-hand change the volume up and down. It is possible to single-hand mute, though.
Touchpad is unusually easy to accidently bump and the default settings caused me to move back web pages by accident far too much before I turned the option off.
It would be nice to have lights for Num Lock/Caps Lock status instead of an on-screen pop-up when you press it. Full screen games can block the pop-up.

1 out of 5 eggslooks nice - wish it worked!

Pros: The widescreen display is beautiful - I had considered a 17" but this is nice!

Cons: No Windows install disk; keyboard flexes a bit; has twice now gotten into an infinite startup repair loop, once AFTER a complete reinstall of Win7. Probably going to RMA

Other Thoughts: going to RMA I think. Twice now just as I have begun to get comfortable with it, installed Office, and begun to do work on it, it's crashed. Is this typical of Acer? My next laptop will not be an Acer I think...with all that's under the hood on this machine, I don't see why reliability should be a sacrifice?

4 out of 5 eggsLinux compatible (Ubuntu/Debian)

Pros: -Single stick of ram, easy to upgrade to 8gigs
-Works without a problem with Ubuntu 12.04
-Bumblebee project enables power management with Nvidia optimus in Linux
-5.5 hour battery life in Ubuntu w/ bumblebee

Cons: -Case and mousepad creek when pushed down on, annoying at first but I don't notice it anymore
-no numpad / capslock indicator
-low resolution
-lacking features for an $800 price point

Other Thoughts: When I first booted into Ubuntu I noticed that the fan was constantly on and the laptop was rather hot; this was because the dedicated graphics card was running. Because of how Optimus is a newer design, linux distros don't come with anything to manage it. Luckily, an independent open-source project called Bumblebee solved that problem by allowing me to turn off the dedicated card when I didn't need it but still allow me to use it via the "optirun" command.

Now that bumblebee is installed I am getting about 5.5 hours battery life in Gnome, and usually a little less than 5 in KDE.

All in all, great purchase! I bought mine on sale at $630, now that its $800 I can't say that I would buy it... I would expect a few perks at that price point, like a higher resolution, lighted keyboard, bluetooth and some caps lock LEDs!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the bucks

Pros: Computer is as advertised, fast, good graphics, good for MMORPG's I play. VERY affordable.

Cons: After purchase I realized that 3 USB ports are constraining, workable but not convenient, HEAT... hand will get hot while using the keyboard, have resorted to using a cooling pad (hence the incovenience in USB ports) to aide in cooling the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsBest for the Buck

Pros: Well first of all lets begin with the amazing price! I had to check daily to get this puppy for $649. Next the core, i7 who can complain for that price and on top of that a 2gb dedicated card. Most laptops alone with a i7 core would cost around $850 and up without a amazing Nvidia card.
This laptop would be great for most college students great processor and 4gb memory. This laptop can do it all i had no problems yet with most of my art programs and games in the late hours of studying. Although some people complain for it looking cheap i believe most of the money spent to make this laptop went to the guts.So I suggest get a case for it dont be a dummy and cram it into your nearly full backpack with your spirel notebook so the keys somehow fall off...IT's a Laptop not a brick of course its delicate! The key board is a little small but it makes up for the separated key pad and usb ports. Overall best budget laptop i owned it gets the job done and hope for it to make through college.

Cons: The screen resolution is kind of a bummer pretty low for its screen size, But i found a nice way to fix that! It is a Gaming Laptop so i suggest hooking that hdmi port to a 1080p LCD Screen and adjust the settings! Run the baby on Ultra or max resolution depending on the game i prefer StarCraft 2 or Diablo 3 and it is a dream. Suggestions if you are a gamer add the extra 4gb of memory its not much, it makes a big difference! cost under 30 bucks

Other Thoughts: This laptop can be a fine lady just treat it with respect, it is delicate but makes up with its capabilities of being a good laptop. Suggestions Up the memory to 8gb, get a case, get a cooler, clean when possible and defrag maintainance. Best for college maybe cheap case wise but after college i sure do want to invest in a more pricey laptop

5 out of 5 eggsFor the price.....

Pros: Bought this for a client that wanted something for photo work while traveling.
Added 8 Gig Highspeed Ram, 240 Gig OCZ Agility3 SSD, and BlueTooth for under $200.00. Used original drive as external on USB 3.0.
Paid $649.95 for laptop.
Total investment of about $850.00.
FAST is an understatement!!

Cons: Light build requires caution when packing.

Didn't buy 2!

Other Thoughts: for it's intended purpose this can't be beat. If you need duribility in a rough enviroment look elsewhere and pay lot's more.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Components, Cheap Build Quality

Pros: Fast and cheap. Runs all of my games and school stuff great.
games I play on this: portal 1&2, bfbc2, gtaIV, HL2/DM, CS:S etc.
Because of the plastic build its also pretty light, but the plastic build is also a con because it does feel cheap.
I like the keyboard, but did pop a key off because a ringed notebook slipped under it and broke it off.
has a full numpad which is so convenient especially for typing in excel during a lab or similar
stays relatively cool even while gaming (no need for a cooling pad)
speakers are descent

Cons: Feels kinda cheap because of the plastic not a big problem. So one day I had this laptop in my backpack and was heading to the library to study. My backpack was pretty full because I had a lot of stuff that needed finishing. When I got to the library and pulled the laptop out there was a line of pixels that had been burnt slightly from getting squished against the edge of the keyboard (see pic). they aren't noticeable unless the background is black but its still a problem. If it wasn't for this I probably would have given this 4 or 5 eggs.

also the screen resolution (1366x768) is bad for 15.6". In my opinion all 15.6s should be 1600x900 at least.

keyboard isn't backlit

I wish there were separate buttons instead of fn button like vol. up/down, wifi on/off, brightness adjustment etc. that may just be me.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I got this for $750 instead of my universities recommended $1300-$1800 ones, they are really nice but not worth paying almost twice as much for.

Just be a little careful to not put a lot of pressure on the screen when closed and you'll be fine with this

I have the old version of this (2630Q with 540M) so essentially older versions of the same components. Same housing

I also installed windows8CP on this comp for fun :D it's kinda cool

Hope to replace this computer with an ultrabook in the future. (stress hope)
