1 out of 5 eggsA Poor Value

Pros: Few

Cons: This is an underpowered machine with very poor performance despite the specifications which would cause you to expect better performance.

Other Thoughts: I needed a machine quickly and this fit the bill in terms of price and specs. I did not expect a high quality product but I did expect it to be more functional than it is. They also advertised an upgrade to Windows 8 but their process to get it does not work.

5 out of 5 eggsAspire 1(st place)

Pros: Cheap- picked it up for 350. Small and light. Gets about 4.5 realistic battery hours even on video use. It's an Acer-so relatively good build quality and support for the price. Very crisp keyboard. Nice screen with small bevel.

Cons: Its an Acer- so not the BEST build quality or support. Ha! It runs a bit hot as the exhaust is quite small. Remember not to put it on anything soft that can suffocate it (a bed... or your lap). The ripple on the plastic back of the screen is hideous, and feels cheap, and looks hideous. Sound is a bit rubbish but its a netbook, so no surprises there. No usb 3.0. Sad face.

Other Thoughts: overall, good value for your money. Great get up and go laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolute best netbook on the market!

Pros: This is what we've all wanted in a netbook. A REAL computer! If you have to, you can easily do Qt or other programming given the RAM, Disk, and processing speed. The battery life is amazing as well.

Cons: You have to use an external CD/DVD drive

Other Thoughts: Even Consumer Reports rated this the best in 2012.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 4 months

Pros: For the price, at the time of purchase, the specifications look great.

It's got fabulous hard drive space and RAM for such a small piece of work.

The start up time is excellent once you remove the bloatware that comes with it.

Cons: I would prefer a matted screen to reduce glare.

If you're running a few programs, the processor can't handle it and chugs along slowly, sometimes freezing up so you have to open the task manager to fix things. Browsing can be an absolute pain.

The touch pad and mouse keys are way too close to the edge of the laptop, causing your hands to bump it often, sending the cursor to random points on your current screen. This has often resulted in the random deletion of sentences when writing papers, or clicking on random links on websites. Very flawed design.

Other Thoughts: I'm writing this review because, less than 4 months into ownership, my hard drive randomly crashed. I took very good care of it, so it's not a result of impact damage or the like.

From what I hear, this product has a history of similar problems. I've never had a problem with any other laptop I've owned. I bought ACER because I've heard they're reliable. Unfortunately, I found that not to be the case.

I contacted ACER support and was directed to mail the laptop to their repair facility, at my own expense (cheapest was $45). Luckily, it's still under warranty. On the other hand, they will now wipe all my information. They gave me the option of taking it to a tech beforehand (again, at my own expense), but after calling local techs, they would charge at least $100 to just give it a try. There is no guarantee they'd be able to salvage anything.

I have owned HP, ASUS, and Toshiba laptops before this and never had problems. I don't plan on buying an ACER again.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Compact, lightweight, large number of features for the price.

Cons: Hard drive failed three weeks after use. Inspection showed the cooling fan operated intermittently and generally failed to start on power-up. Two small ~2 mm pieces of anti-stat foam were found loose in the electronics compartment. Not sure about the manufacturer's quality inspection program, but fan-clogging debris like foam bits should not be allowed in the electronics compartment.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware Bad Service!

Pros: Good computer at a decent price.

Cons: Worst customer service. 4 months after I got my Acer Aspire, the cooling fan started humming. Customer service was useless, as the barely spoke English, and only answered questions by reading script. Said I would have to send computer to Texas, where my hard drive would be reset, so I should also back up my data. This would take 7-10 business days.
So: I could spend money on packaging, and shipping, and be without my computer, and be faced with the possibility of having to re-load my data, or take it to my repair guy. Which I did. He fixed it in less than an hour, and the problem was a piece of paper that was in the fan from the factory.
I called Customer "Service" in Texas, explaining the situation and asking for a reimbursement for the $65 it cost me to fix their problem. Of course they said "No." When I asked to speak to the head of customer service, she wouldn't give me his name, but said it was available on the website. She wouldn't give me public information about her company!

Other Thoughts: While I like the computer, I would not buy one again, because of the extremely poor customer service. From doing research, Acer appears to be a company that, once it sells you the product, doesn't much care about you as a customer. They have your money, so thanks and good luck! I am lucky enough to live in San Francisco, 30 minutes away from Silicon Valley, so I have more than enough repair shops to choose from. If I lived in another area, this problem with my fan would have been huge.
So beware. If you buy an Acer, stock up on shipping supplies, and buy a big thumb drive to back up your data. You'll probably need it.

5 out of 5 eggsBest 12" Around!!!

Pros: Perfect size Laptop, Its not to small that you loose all your performance like with a 9-10" Netbook. It Still has a C-60 CPU, NOT THE ATOM!!!!! 4GB DDRIII RAM is great 320gb hard drive is awesome. this machine runs very well its looks great nice lid design and keyboard layout. ALSO has a AWESOME picture the resolution 1366x768 HD LED it puts out a better picture than alot of full size laptops. Great Buy For the money. you will not regret buying this laptop

Cons: there is only 1 con that i have found in this laptop so far.......when you use it for a long time it starts to get just a little hot. i bought a 10$ cooling pad and it fixed that problem!! invest in a laptop cooler. even if it does not get hot a laptop cooler is the best thing you could buy for ANY KIND of laptop.

Other Thoughts: great buy, the price will drop very soon because i bought mine from radio shack for $299.99. As it is worth the 379 new egg is charging. the price will go down very soon

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome tiny laptop

Pros: Screen Resolution! Graphics chipset is MUCH better than the Intel HD, Battery Life is incredible, and it's small, too! Not much larger than 10.1" netbooks.

My wife has the previous generation of this tiny laptop and it's been awesome for her. We bought it to replace a netbook that we were only partially happy with -- the netbook had a 1024x600 screen, intel atom and intel HD graphics. This thing has been great. It's much faster than the old netbook, you can see almost twice as much on the screen (because of the dense resolution), and you have all of the color management controls of the ATI control panel to make sure your screen colors look right.

With the colors set right and the desktop space the resolution affords, you can even do basic photo editing/touch ups on this thing.

Cons: The screen is glossy instead of matte, that makes it a bit difficult to use outdoors in the sunlight.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is the perfect balance between portability and speed, and the hardware is a TON better than the netbook offerings.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent machine

Pros: Good size for a netbook. Easily handles 'basic' tasks. Plenty of storage, plenty of RAM to run decently. Can play HD video (but please read cons below for one "gotcha"). Very light and portable. Decent battery life with average use. HDMI output is a nice touch.

Good value for what it is. Full size, more powerful laptops are a better choice for more productivity oriented tasks, or for gaming, or for whatever else. This is, however, a fine little unit for basic use.

Beats the pants off of any other 'netbook' currently available, especially at its price point. AMD based CPU/GPU combo ("C-60" model here) is impressive for this level of machine, and works well. GPU also accelerates modern web browsers, thus making general surfing a reasonably fast experience.

Compared to previous generation of netbooks, this is "more like it" and falls more in line with expectations - not blazing fast, but not painfully or annoyingly underperforming.

Cons: It seems Netflix hasn't worked out how to handle HD hardware acceleration with Silverlight plugin (which is what they use, as opposed to Flash). Video becomes choppy when "HD" quality is enabled. Simple workaround, don't play HD Netflix on this if you want smooth playback! ...It's not a 70" HD LED TV anyway...

This netbook plays all other HD video smoothly otherwise! Might suggest another player than Windows Media Player, but then, if you're reading this, you probably already guessed as much.

Screen viewing angle isn't excellent, but for what it is, works.

Keyboard isn't awesome, but it's workable.

Not made of solid aluminum, but also not nearly as expensive as even the 'base model' variant of a certain fruit flavored competitor.

Be patient - it's not a quad core with nearly the speed. It's still a netbook. Expect some things to take a bit of time to open.

Minimal extraneous apps. Simple enough to uninstall if you wish.

Other Thoughts: For what this is, it's pretty nifty.

If you want a full laptop, get one. If you want a smaller than normal laptop, this is darn close!

More features, and better performance than one might expect in a small form factor like this.

...Did I mention it has HDMI output, and can actually play HD video smoothly (minus the Netflix, for the moment)???
