4 out of 5 eggstemperamental, but worth it

Pros: nice wide keyboard and keys. number pad. great graphics capability. nice large hard drive to store all my movies and games. slim. the auto overclocking is a very nice addition. relatively low power draw. dual display, built in webcam and mic that work pretty dam good. love the texture and the color(why i went with this one and not some of the other acer models of comparable specs)

Cons: overheats freakishly when playing TDU2, FO:NV, so hot it has burned me in the past. brightness function buttons lock up frequently when removing power and then closing lid, left side of the board under escape button sags slightly(i suspect due to overheating). had some issues with net adapter in the beginning, but also had problems with dsl at the time. only 3 usb ports. volume is not very loud at max, goes great with a music bullet though. big thing that urks me is the power button is in just the right spot where if i grab it with my primary hand (left hand) it is quite often in the way and shuts the computer down. memory card reader doesnt work with all types of sd's

Other Thoughts: dropped it twice, once from a height of 3 feet onto solid rock, once from 4 feet up onto a sparsely carpeted floor, cracked the exhaust grate and scratched the cover, but still runs strong. this was my first laptop ever, after swearing to never own one. this baby changed my mind, and now i wont go back to desktop ever again. it does everything i want it to do, from gaming to streaming, torrenting to browsing. i pretty much never go anywhere without it.

gave it 4 eggs because most of the cons are minor in my opinion. would rate at 3.5 though. still think it was well worth what i paid to replace my aging self-built desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Great speed, memory, HDD space, video, and audio. Installed Linuxmint and it works great. All works out of box ( webcam, mic, speakers). Reasonable price.

Cons: Came installed with MS Windows :(.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my slower acer netbook. I haven't found any issues running Linuxmint. Skype works great ( the netbook had mic issues). Will be trying fedora Linux soon.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire 5560

Pros: Decent Graphics card, Nice quad Core, Very nice laptop for the price

Cons: not many, screen feels a little flimsy but thats minor. had a minor software issue right out of the box but got that taken care of pretty painlessly.

Other Thoughts: very nice laptop for the price. bought the max amount of ram and this laptop handles all the games i throw at it.

1 out of 5 eggsBad ventilation; wireless adapter overheats

Pros: somewhat inexpensive. has decent graphics adapter.
Sending your laptop to Acer's repair place is free. You don't even have to pay shipping.

Cons: Acer really should issue a recall on this device.

The wireless adapter stops working, whenever I use the computer for a few hours. The adapter overheats, and then the driver shuts the adapter down to keep it from burning itself.

I've tried to get this problem fixed twice, by sending it to Acer's repair place. They failed to reproduce the problem (because they didn't use the laptop like I do, so it didn't warm up, so it never overheated for them).

I am currently dealing with this problem by setting the adapter's output power to 50% of its maximum wattage (using the driver software features), thereby keeping the adapter from overheating. This is an unacceptable solution, and because it decreases my Wifi range and throughput.

SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
I think the real problem is that this device has a design flaw that lets the laptop overheat, but, only the wireless adapter overheats, because it is not designed to withstand the same amount of heat as the graphics adapter and CPU.

Other Thoughts: Sending your laptop to Acer's repair place is free. You don't even have to pay shipping, but if they can't diagnose the problem correctly, you'll quickly find yourself sending your device to them over and over, while never getting it fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This laptop is awesome.. It will do everything you want it to.. I have played World of Warcraft on it for 6 hrs straight and it runs like a dream.. As long as you have a good utility program to get rid of unwanted stuff this computer runs like a pro.. I have no issues with it at all... Going to purchase 2 more for xmas presents..

Cons: Only 1 con and not really because I don't like mouse pads anyway.. mouse pad isn't all that great so you will need a mouse if your going to game on it.. Otherwise mouse pad is fine..

2 out of 5 eggsjust OK

Pros: nice looking. not expensive.

Cons: beep-beep sound appeared within a couple of weeks after getting this laptop. Now it's getting worse. Anyone has any suggestions on what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Bad touch pad, cursor jumps unexpectedly.

2 out of 5 eggsMy first and last Acer laptop

Pros: Low price. Beautiful design. Easy to set up for me. Speed OK.

Cons: Low battery life like some already posted. When it's new a 100% charged last less than 3 hours. Now after only 5 months, the battery last around 1 hour. I have to use it as a desktop now with the power cord plug in most of the time.
I did have the problem of web site went back and forth by itself like others posted but not much. The problem that I'm worried the most is it automatically shut off by itself. First it happened when I used the keypad so I thought because its keypad is so sensitive. But since then I used the external mouse and it happened again 2 times one time when I pick the laptop up, the other time when I touched the keypad. Not sure it is the hardware or software problem since it happened only 3, 4 times so I have not had time to troubleshoot the problem yet.

Other Thoughts: Other than the cons I mentioned so far the laptop works OK. This is my first laptop ever that I bought (I'd been using some at work before I bought this) but probably my last one with Acer.

4 out of 5 eggsIts all Good

Pros: It does everything I need it to

Cons: I would be on a webpage, and then without clicking the back button, it would automatically go back to the previous page, or back 2 pages, or back a page then forward again, you see what I mean, I think it had something to do with the sensitivity of the mouse, I tried adjusting the setting but it kept doing that. Very annoying if you are in the middle of payment for something or if you have typed something long and all the sudden wham, you're back on the previous page without touching anything.

Other Thoughts: I just spilled a glass of apple juice all over the keyboard and its fried, bye bye laptop

4 out of 5 eggsVery Impressed

Pros: Out of the box, the performance of this machine is wonderful for a mid range laptop. This Acer handles many of the games I've thrown at it with ease and multitasking a breeze while doing so. It's great on handling HD video, streaming whether it be live or tube sites, and the very wide 15.6" screen has your eyes in a trance as you marvel at its clarity. A few of the more demanding games i've played on this machine include GTA IV, Borderlands 2, Skyrim, and Cities XL 2012. All of which handle amazingly. The integrated webcam is nice in the right lighting, and the keyboard layout is just great and comfortable. The inculsion of a num pad is even greater. Typically for the price you'd expect a pretty low end device you'd find in a local Wal-Mart, but this machine takes the cake and stomps on all the competition in said retail chain, by not only including a good amount of starter RAM of 4GB, but has a 500GB HDD, a 1.5GHz self auto-overclocking capabilities up to 2.4GHz when you need it, a great HD LED LCD screen which a Radeon HD 6520G GPU powers its beauty, and many other hardware features you'd usually expect to pay in the upper 600's of dollars. I highly suggest this Acer Aspire 5560-7414 if you can seeking a mid range laptop and desire the ability to watch HD video in 1080p, play most modern video games, or are into surfing the web with no lag times.

Cons: With great Pros, come great cons, well at least that's what you'd expect but honestly there aren't a whole lot I've discovered as of yet. I've had the laptop about a week now and there's only a few complaints. First one is a given and pretty much the most consistent on any device you purchase regardless of cost. That would be the bloatware. Sure it's nice to boot at first and see that you have a ton of cool apps and options awaiting your commands, but for the more experienced pc users, we just overlook all the options and call them junk, which in most cases they are. You'll find a couple or a few things that disguises its self in trials which can be frustrating to uninstall but we are all aware of these cirucmstances so i'll stop on that note. Another thing is the placement and design of the touch pad. It looks and feels nice, but really it just gets in the way and when trying to play games it can be pretty annoying especially on shooting games. The left and right click buttons were integrated into a single bar which in order to click either one you'll have to tap it on opposite ends rather than just conveniently hitting a button for each. The RAM will have to be upgraded. If you want to increase the speed in which you are doing things, or shorten the time it takes to unzip really large files, then this cheap upgrade is inevitable. The last thing i've noticed and have seen a few other people point out, is the slow hard drive. Its only noticeably slow if you are a more experienced user, but even you may notice that some tasks take a bit longer than they normally should. If you decide to upgrade hard drives, then be sure to compare and contrast transfer and clock speeds.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I had to give this machine a 4/5. Easily because of its amazing hardware and beautiful design with limited cons. For a mid range laptop, i'm highly impressed that this machine keeps up with my desktop and has yet to even show signs of over heating.
