5 out of 5 eggsFantastic for the money

Pros: - Solid feel and no perceived flex in the main body or the nice chicklet keyboard
- Light weight
- Sleek lines
- Decent performance
- Great battery life.

This is quite a machine for its size and low price tag.

Cons: - Some bloatware to remove.
- Key backlighting bleeds from under/around the keys.
- Stock hard disk clicks audibly (as all mechanical disks do), and is somewhat annoying in a quiet environment (pads and smart phones are spoiling me).
- Somewhat difficult to access internal hardware components, which is understandable for a machine this thin.
- It would be nice to see laptop screen resolutions increase even at this price range in the next few years.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Acer in a row for personal use and I couldn't imagine being happier unless I moved up to a machine costing several hundred dollars more. I must say that I've upgraded the hard drive, memory and wireless card to make a good machine great, but again, it is still an amazing value as stock.

Upgraded components:
Samsung 250GB 7mm SSD (MZ-7TD250BW)
Kingston 8GB (KVR16S11/8)
Intel 6235 Wireless (6235AN.HMWWB)

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: -Thin
-Somewhat light (4 pounds)
- VERY Long battery life
I was streaming videos on YT in HD and it still reported 3.5 hours left in the battery at 60%. Gaming is a different matter of course.
-Backlit keys
-Responsive and smooth touchpad
-USB 3.0
-3rd gen i5

Cons: The mic is located at the bottom of the laptop near the touchpad, this makes it so the key presses are loud and even using the touchpad can be heard. Not to mention having it at that spot makes it hard for people to hear if you're not at a desk and have it sitting on your lap. Not enough of a problem for me to take off an egg but I wish it was located at a better spot.

I wish it had a higher resolution, but I know making it so the laptop would be able to do so would up the cost and lower the battery life.

It's kind of hard to use the right and left click which makes it so when I do I end up moving the pointer sometimes which makes me misclick. Dragging and dropping with one hand is pretty hard but not impossible. But this is more of a personal problem so I won't be taking an egg off. I usually carry a mouse around with me anyways.

Only 2 USB ports, wish it had at least 3 since I use 1 for my headset and 1 for my mouse and sometimes I wan't to plug in my external HDD.

Numpad issues, the mouse I use is the Razer Naga Hex. This mouse comes with 6 buttons on the side of the mouse and are useful for playing MMORPGS and other games. The way it works is the buttons are pretty much another numpad or another 1-6 on the keyboard (2 different settings). When the numpad function is in use it takes over the keys on the laptop which is fine if all I wanted to do was type numbers which makes it so my naga ends up behaving differently if I were to use it on my desktop. I end up having to rebind controls on every game I play and even having to use different ones because of this which ends up getting annoying. Although this isn't a gaming laptop, it's just an everyday casual netbook, so this isn't something I can take off points for.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop knowing I wouldn't really be using it to play games on high settings but it's beating my expectations. I was able to play Tera on its preset 3 settings, Diablo III on high, Starcraft II on Med and Skyrim on high once I lowered the view distance, although not at max fps, fraps had it at an average of 20-30 which is very playable.

Great buy and it even came with a $100 gift card when I bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome for the price

Pros: nice looking, good keyboard, acceptable lcd, optical drive, good touchpad

Cons: lots of sharp corners and edges that seem brittle

Other Thoughts: awesome laptop for the money, nights and days better than the thinkpad E430 I just replaced. runs quiet and has anti reflective double layer lcd. the only con I saw is that ports and optical drive have these sharp plastic edges which I think I might break! apart from that, nothing! awesome

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Keyboard

Pros: Price, Fast for the price, good CPU. Fast delivery.

Cons: Keys started to fall within 2 weeks of very light use (<2 hours/day). The only way to fix it is to send it back to Acer. It has been 2 weeks and it is still under repair. So I have not been able to even use it to find out about other faults.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ultrabook for the money!

Pros: - Ivy bridge i5 in a ~$600 ultrabook is amazing value
- Cool -- has never gone above 50C, usually idles in the 40C range.
- Slick, aluminum-style look
- Surprisingly solid keyboard. Many chicklet, island-type laptop keyboards tend to feel cheap and flimsy, but this one is solid and responsive. The back lighting is icing on the cake.
- The touchpad is surprising solid as well. Took a couple days getting used to, but I now have no problems navigating using it.
- They've managed to cram a DVD drive in this thing too, a feature that isn't on very many ultrabooks
- Great battery life. I've gone 6 hours with lowish-moderate screen brightness + wifi on and it still had a little juice left at the end of the day. It wasn't the promised 8 hours, but ill take what it was giving me any day

Cons: - There needs to be higher res screens on laptops nowadays, at least 1600 x 900 minimum! With tablets cheaper than these laptops with higher screen resolution, there is no excuses now. 1368 x 766 is standard on these, so I'm not docking an egg for that.
- Oddly shaped enter key, I know they're going for a specific look, but it kind of throws off the whole look.
- Easily smudged surface, but nothing that can't be rubbed out
- Almost all the ports are on the back of the laptop. Maybe a good idea for the power and ethernet ports, not so much for the USBs.
- Not the thinnest of ultrabooks, but it's still very thin and light
- Standard bloatware

Other Thoughts: Tried out a bunch a bunch of lower-end ultrabooks in the $600-$700 range, and this one was the winner. This one had very few flaws, all except the resolution being extremely minor ones. I highly recommend this if you're looking for an ultrabook in the $600-$700 range!

Another note: If you're not doing anything graphics intensive and are also looking at the Acer 6814 -- the same model as this but with a discrete GPU -- get this one for sure. This one has never felt hot to me ever, while there are lots of reviewers reporting heat issues with the 6814.

Finally, the SSD on this is for caching purposes only, you cannot use it for storing anything. It will still make the laptop noticeably faster than one without one.

4 out of 5 eggsgood for price

Pros: I use this laptop for 8 hours a day. battery lasts for the full 8 plus some. pretty quick and does everything a student needs. also loads up very quickly

Cons: not easy (nearly impossible) to add more memory or replace hdd. the bottom of the laptop is one solid piece. cant get to battery also.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Best Value on the market
Beautiful Look

Cons: The mouse pad could be more user friendly. The right and left buttons aren't showing. And the mouse pad locates slightly toward to the left.

Other Thoughts: Altho I am not an expert on computer technology. but I can feel that this computer is very well build. My girlfriend loves its lightweight and its look. I couldn't really believe it costs under $700.
