4 out of 5 eggsCan't beat the price/performance

Pros: Nice keyboard with solid feedback on keystrokes with an audible click. Number pad is a bonus. Excellent GPU/CPU lets this handle most games I throw at it with relative ease on medium settings. Nice large display with plenty of brightness for when needed.

Cons: Glossy finish

Other Thoughts: I was experiencing graphical delays when doing almost anything from simple typing to opening up new windows. These delays were brief but noticeable most of the times, and up to a full second at other times. These delays were taken care of when I turned off the onboard graphics and just let the NVidia GPU handle the display. If it weren't for this reason I could justify giving this a 5-egg rating. It does come with lots of extra unneeded bloatware but that can be easily taken care of.

5 out of 5 eggs@ jerbear

Pros: jerbear have you enabled bluetooth? Default settings have it disabled. To enable bluetooth fold the function key and press f3. Sorry if you already knew this and yours really did come defective, but I just wanted to be sure.

Cons: None. Exactly what I wanted.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen randomly goes black!

Pros: Was working great for a week. Fast & Cheap.

Cons: Screen randomly loses back light on screen. If I hold the laptop screen with my hand it comes back on. I believe the power connection to the screen is poorly connected. But now I don't have the original box and have to figure out how to return it. My advice, spend a little more and get a brand that lasts.

Other Thoughts: If I didn't have the screen issues and games that occasionally crash this would be perfect. But a laptop without a working screen is a deal breaker.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far...lovin' it!

Pros: Excellent value! i5 processor, huge screen, dedicated graphics card, easy to upgrade, pretty good battery life.

Cons: Minor, but...2nd hard drive tray not included and limited places to order from. Cost almost to have one shipped as the part itself cost.

Other Thoughts: I have limited experience with this laptop, but so far SO GOOD!

I immediately added an SSD as primary and did a clean Win 7 install which has made this laptop scream! Everything from boot to app launch happens almost instantly. Plus, because of the 2 drive bays, I can keep the 500GB stock drive for backup and additional storage.

In general it's a great value even after adding a $200 Samsung 256GB SSD. I feel I would have paid at least $1000 to get near this kind of performance from a higher end laptop.

I know some people have complained about the gloss finish and screen, but in my home environment I cant say I have even noticed whether it shows fingerprints or not. Maybe in direct sunlight it might be a problem, but in normal indoor (non-overhead) light I am not seeing any issue with the finishes.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns beautifully

Pros: It's played and run everything I've wanted and more. I play or have played LoL, Torchlight 2, Dishonored, Fallout: New Vegas and Assassin's Creed 1 & 2. All running at High with no issues. Movies look and sound pretty good as well. Long story short I love this laptop.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: The laptop I got has some issues with it's 'O' key, my only complaint really.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it!

Pros: Nice keyboard and screen. Seems well built. It's plenty fast. Decent video for what it is. It looks very stylish. Good balance of components for a cheap gaming PC. 2 hard drive bays and the Intel chipset that supports SSD caching. Put a 32GB SSD in the 2nd bay to make the 500GB fly. Newegg says this supports up to 8GB of RAM, Acer says 16GB???

Cons: Lots of Acer bloatware junk programs. Finger print magnet finish (wish they'd have used their Mesh Black finish). Only 3.5 hours battery life, but for a 17.3" screen I guess that's not bad, and there are 9 cell batteries for it on the Bay.

Other Thoughts: Balanced 6.5-7.2 WEI scores except for Aero graphics 4.7. It might test Aero with the HD 3000 chip though? Great FPS in Warcraft in Ultra with a couple things like shadows turned down to Good.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop!

Pros: Great Design (and color)
Fast start up
Very fast performance
Plays games smoothly
Big screen, clear and clean colors

This laptop is amazing for the price, very fast and very fun to use. Has a lot of great features to it, and it's perfect for gaming. It can play Team Fortress 2 at max settings, Skyrim at high settings, Left 4 Dead 2 at max, all with no lag whatsoever. It screams through any programs I throw at it, it's perfect for the everyday computer user. If you're looking for a laptop that is not only nice on the eyes, but can do gaming very well, then get this. I'll be adding 8GB RAM to this very soon which will increase performance and gaming performance as well. It also supports dual hard drives, so you can add an SDD to it to make it even more faster! This laptop packs a lot of great features to make it last and make it faster. I highly recommend it!

Cons: The only con is the keyboard, it's nicely spaced out between the keys but it's a bit hard to get used to, but you will get used to it quickly though.

4 out of 5 eggsgood buy!

Pros: Arrived the day after I ordered
Beautiful, large screen
Dedicated graphics card!!!
Nice processor

Cons: Didn't come with Windows 7 disk, however I can make a recovery disk (minus one egg)
Not an i7 (but the i5 does just fine with light gaming)
Screen can get a glare sometimes
Fingerprints ahhh

Other Thoughts: I can play WoW on Good graphics settings and get 67 fps and High is 34 fps. There's a load of extra software that is a pain to remove without the OS disk, but it was all expected. Overall great buy! Don't wait, get this now!

4 out of 5 eggsEggcellent entry-level gaming notebook

Pros: Dedicated GPU
i5 processor
17.3" screen

Cons: Fingerprint magnet
Somewhat loud optical drive

Other Thoughts: The 17.3" screen is bright and vibrant. It's not a Samsung screen nor is it HD but I knew this before buying it and I don't really care. For $600 you know some of the trimmings are going to get cut, so no HD screen with colors to die for, but the screen is more than adequate and has no distortions that I can see.

The glossy screen is not the worst glossy screen I've seen, it's not nearly as glossy as some other lappies I have had. With the glossy display you get slightly better color intensity and contrast than a matte screen. This is always a subjective matter, some prefer the looks of a glossy screen some prefer matte screens. I prefer matte but that's just my preference. I have not had a chance to test the screen's visibilty in bright or sunny conditions so I cannot attest to its performance in that area.

The exhaust fan, while not silent is realtively quiet for a notebook fan. It doesn't cycle on and off during normal operations but instead remains on and blows at a constant YET unobtrusive level. Most notable is that the exaust fan does not exhibit a high-frquency noise that many notebooks are plagued with. I have not put this notebook through its paces yet, so I cannot say how the fan performs during very intensive computing. The fan may ramp-up considerably.

The build quality is nice but not outstanding, you would never want to drop it of course but the build quailty seems to be above par considering the price tag. I'd say barring any keyboard/key failures or LCD screen hinge issues this notebook should last a good 4 to 5 years with constant use. The touchpad is not the best I have seen, it's all one color (Piano Black) which makes it hard to differentiate between the Right and Left Touchpad buttons. The touchpad itself has an ever so slight traction to it which I find helpful especially if you tend to have oily fingers (snack foods) which registers touchpad movements accurately.

The Keyboard keys have a "chiclet" style to them and have a nice tactile feel to them yet they are slightly more mushy than I tend to prefer, again, for $600 you don't get the Porche of notebooks so I am okay with that. Typing is not silent but not annoyingly loud either. There is no backlighting as another reviewer noted. I almost decided on another notebook becuase the Acer lacks the backlighting but at more than a 300 dollar difference I was willing to forego this feature.

I/O Ports and USB ports are placed wisely, although I find that the USB ports are just a tad too close for bulky USB flash drives seated side-by-side. To be fair though almost all notebooks have this problem as space is at a premium.

The DVD-RW drive is fine but I found when wiping the 5200RPM stock HDD and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 that the optical drive tends to rattle the chassis of the entire notebook while spinning at high RPMs. Not a deal breaker though as I rarely use the optical drive but for those who watch DVDs or use their DVD-RW/ROM drives a lo
