5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the price

Pros: Fast, quiet, cool. Beautiful picture. Great gaming.

Cons: I cannot use a wired Ethernet connection while using the VGA port, not enough space. But I would not even consider taking a quarter of an egg off because this is a great computer

Other Thoughts: If this laptop comes back in stock- buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsNothing better

Pros: How can you go wrong? 3rd gen i7, 2gb dedicated graphics, great screen, 3.0 usb, gigabit ethernet, and everything else is top notch. Also, FOUR ram slots, and TWO hard drive slots. This is perfect.

Cons: 5400 rpm hard drive, but just get an ssd for os and your flying.

Other Thoughts: Literally, there is nothing that should stop you from this computer. If you want insane performance and huge upgrading opportunities to the memory and disk space then this is for you, and you cant beat the price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop Glad I bought it.

Pros: I bought this laptop to bring with me to school because of very long times between classes. I wanted something that I could work on homework with and play games. This laptop easily plays League of Legends, Black OPs 2 , skyrim and others.

Cons: One of the keys was not working when I got it so i took it off and saw that the clip underneath was broken. So I am missing a key. The battery life is kind of low unless your doing something non intensive. Id say 2 hours for regular things and 45 minutes while gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsunbeatable for the price

Pros: You can't beat this hardware configuration at this price. With recent newegg sale prices I added a kingston 120gb ssd to the extra drive bay for fifty seven dollars, and 32 gigs of gskill ddr3 laptop memory for one hundred fifty six dollars. The sale price of the computer itself was eight hundred twenty six dollars. So, for 1041 dollars I got a system with 120gb kingston ssd, 750 gb hdd, intel i7-3610QM, 32gb gskill ddr3 1600, and nvidia gt 650m. Throw in a 3 year square trade warranty and you're all set. This is a very reasonable priced computer that is cheap and easy to upgrade. I use this system for crunching photo, audio, and video files for several businesses that I run. This baby is FAST. The only downside to upgrading is the hard drive is the system doesn't ship with an extra hard drive caddy. I had to make my own. The only downside to the system is the terrible battery life. Even with the ssd, I only get about hours out of the battery. This makes it a less portable system as you need to have a power supply available to get much work done. I didn't take any eggs away because of the overall value of the system. I haven't played any games on it yet, and may not at all since I have a very fast desktop system as well. There's no reason this wouldn't make a great budget gaming rig as well.

Cons: No extra hard drive caddy, short battery life, ram clips are fragile.

Other Thoughts: This system is a fantastic power using solution for anyone who doesn't want to fork over $3500 or more for an an alienware, cyberpower, ibuypower system etc. I shopped hard for this system and am very happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for a tight budget

Pros: .i7 CPU
.650M graphics card runs nearly everything you throw at it (I'm running Witcher 2 on High with zero hiccups)
.Wonderful keyboard (feel and response is top notch, hard getting used to an accessible numpad)
.17" screen is crystal clear.

Cons: .Dead pixel on screen that can sometimes be glaringly obvious.
.Finger-print magnet
.Sound seems a little hushed at times.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a ~5 year old HP laptop and it's like I came out of a cave. This thing is more than I thought it'd be. It runs quiet and I've had yet to experience serious heat (Witcher 2 can put it through its paces but it's never too hot). For someone with a budget, I can't see how you wouldn't go with this machine. Compared to similarly spec'd laptops, this thing is miles cheaper than what is available.

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop ever owned

Pros: This laptop is awesome, here are some of the important specs to me that makes this laptop stand out:

- Dual Bays: I've put a 128GB SSD in the first bay and kept the hard drive came with it as a secondary hard drive.

- Dual Band Network Adaper: This is extremely important because in some cases the 2.4Ghz band is extremely full in some of the locations I use the laptop which causes drops, having the 5Ghz is very useful and important.

Beautiful Display: The display looks really good, and it's 17.3"

Graphics Card: The Graphics card on this laptop is also pretty good! Windows 7 Experience Index of 6.8.

Cons: Power supply is a little big, but thats understandable since it has a dedicated graphics card.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprising from Acer

Pros: Amazing CPU (runs circles around my AMD A8 3870k APU), Excellent GPU (runs World of Warcraft on Ultra and Skyrim on High with little-to-no lag), 2 hard drive slots (might see about getting a 90GB SSD for the OS and low space-consuming games), and a very large 17.3" LED screen.

Cons: Only 6GB of RAM, but this is a minor issue and can be fixed very easily, as well as some bloatware, which is another easy fix.

Other Thoughts: I had my sister ask me to look around for a laptop for her that can run all of her games, as well as do everything for her schooling. This does both, plus more. I'm quite surprised as I've had a bad experience with Acer laptops. I'm glad I gave them a second chance. This laptop is quite amazing and Acer did an excellent job.

I do plan to get one for myself and so does my roommate. This machine is just pure technological bliss.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing quality

Pros: -Mid-Upper level desktop equivalent laptop for heavy duty computing and gaming.
-Computer has an internal device that moderates the use of the CPU, letting this heavy duty computer to still have a great battery life (4-5h) if your not doing anything too demanding.
-Speakers are great quality. No bass but that's expected.
-Large screen, very bright and high quality.
-Amazing webcam quality

Cons: Not much to complain about but...
-Speaker/headphone jack is on the right side of the computer, making it annoyingly around your hand if you use a mouse. But its doable.
-Screen is NOT 1080. Although 900 is still pretty good, 1080 would be nice.

Other Thoughts: Best deal on a laptop under $1000

5 out of 5 eggsGreat high end laptop

Pros: Fast processor and great graphics card!

The dual hard drive bays, and the fact that this machine should not throttle according to the Acer service manual is a very good selling point.

Cons: None that I can think of. As others have said, with a SSD and at least 2 matching DDR3 SODIMMs, this machine is a pretty much a desktop replacement at a price unseen by any other laptop brands.

Other Thoughts: While I'm at it, I will bunk a previous recent (9/3/2012) review's inaccurate information: For Linux users intent on utilizing the NVIDIA Optimus card on this or any other laptop, look up Bumblebee project. It has matured enough that it is pretty stable to set up fairly easily in order to be able to run apps on NVIDIA cards via its 'optirun' syntax -- basically it creates a new X screen and diverts the output of the graphics to that screen.

Secondly, this machine has 4 DDR3 slots, which means it can support up to 32GB RAM with the current 8GB SODIMMs available.

Lastly, Acer does have service manuals on their website, but the links are not visible. I will leave that as an exercise to the reader to find them, but all it takes is a 'View Source' on a page for a laptop model that does have a service manual published versus one that does not, and it will be seen clear as day how to get any service manual. ;)
