1 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire refurbished - Poor quality item

Pros: Small size, lightweight.

Cons: Runs very, very slowly. No practical software pre-installed. Filled with bloatware, including Norton AND McCaffe.

Multiple blemishes on the machine itself, appeared dirty.

Other Thoughts: After less than 12 hours use, the machine is somehow broken, likely due to a component failure internally. I cannot return it because it has been more than 30 days.

Of course, the machine got minimal use because right out of the box it ran exceptionally slowly. It took almost 10 minutes to delete the "Bing Bar" that came preinstalled.

I felt like I was inside a commercial with ads and commercialware.

Save yourself the money and headache. Go ahead and pay more for your laptop, don't fall for the cheap and refurbished one. It's junk and it's the most expensive thing you'll ever buy, because you'll feel frustrated by the user experience and it may blink out on you after short use.

The item as shipped had many visible marks and scratches as well as appearing dirty.

As this was a refurbished product, I did not expect perfection, but what I pulled out of the box was of swap meet quality.

Correct that -- I've bought better quality at the swap meet.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Rather inexpensive, fairly excellent battery life.

Cons: I enjoyed my first netbook for some time. It was an excellent way to take my moderate computing interests around the house with me. It handled youtube and basic websurfing handily, and I never expected anything more (gaming, particularly) from it.

The AC power jack on that one, though, broke after about a year and a half. Pain in the keester, so I looked to this one, with identical processor speed and memory capacity, to replace it. This hasn't worked out very well. The touchpad randomly acts as if I've swiped my finger across or depressed my finger on it, or even left clicked, even when my hands are nowhere near the netbook at all.

It came preinstalled by Acer with an array of antivirus programs that the limited system memory didn't really accomodate for. Removing them from startup seemed to help for awhile, but at this point running a youtube video in fullscreen reduces system performance to a choppy crawl.

I'm not at all certain why this netbook performs so, so much worse than the previous gateway model I owned (that, while it had rather poor craftsmanship on the AC jack, ran while it did much, much more efficiently than this unit with the same processor and memory ratings.) but it's been a fairly huge disappointment.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT WASTE YOUR TIME

Pros: The only Pro is the size, everything else is horrible.

Cons: Slow....slow slow. If you want to go back to the Netscape, juno days here is a device that will bring to back in time. Dont waste your time and buy. HORRIBLE.

4 out of 5 eggsGood little computer

Pros: The N2600 is one of the better Atom's out right now and is more than capable of any normal web browsing or word processing. The reason this computer loses an egg for me is that it does not have the D2700 in it. There really isn't a good reason for not having the best Atom.

Cons: These NM10 boards are notorious for ONLY have proper video drivers for Windows 7 32-bit. If you use an external monitor, be prepared for a severe lack in resolutions. This is another reason I can't give this netbook a 5/5.

Other Thoughts: I have 4GB of 1066 in mine, but I had to flash the bios to the latest version to get the support. I am running Windows 8 x64, but had to flash bios to latest version to unlock 64-bit support.
I also installed an SSD which makes this a very fun toy. Be warned though, if you want to change the hard drive.. look up a video on youtube to see how! The teardown of this netbook was surprisingly complicated and delicate. So do your homework before opening this thing up.
