5 out of 5 eggsLove the W700

Pros: Fast, easy to use, flexible.

Cons: A little heavy. A bit more money, until yout start adding up what you'd have to spend on an iPad or other table to get the same as what comes with the Iconia

Other Thoughts: I've had my Iconia W700 for about 6 months now and love it!. I'm no tech geek, but I think this is one of the best values out there. A lot of the other “cons” that are out there about the Iconia W700 don't seem to hold water to me. Early on I had a slight issue with the wireless problem some many people mention. I think the updates really helped that issue. Some may say there’s not enough memory. No big deal, I plug in a USB hub and run everything off a small 1T external hard drive when I do anything serious on the tablet.; plus the hub allows me to run a wireless mouse as well. And to me, the weight is a non issue, period! As far a traveling with the unit, it’s great. Sometimes I’ll take the bluetooth keyboard, but most of the time I don’t. And when traveling for work, I NEVER take my iPad…don’t like it and I rarely use it. I would definitely recommend the Acer Iconia W700 for anyone debating between the iPad or Microsoft Surface.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor battery life, buggy, laggy, and Acer's famously awful customer service

Pros: The computer is great when it works, which is much less often than when it doesn't work. Comes with free keyboard (won't stay paired).

Cons: Gets super hot, only gets about 4 hours of battery life in real-life usage, buggy, super laggy and Acer's customer service is pretty much non-existent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat tablet! Much better battery life than Surface Pro

Pros: This thing has basically the same specs as the Surface Pro but nearly twice the battery life. The Engadget reviewers loved it, and so do I.

Cons: The wifi driver was broken when I got it, but that only took a couple minutes to fix, as it should for anyone who has dealt with drivers before (those giving this a one star because of wifi issues probably don't even know what a driver is) I would have liked a second USB port but that isn't an issue when docked.

Other Thoughts: I have been using this as a laptop replacement for a little over 3 months now, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. As long as I remember to dock it at night it can easily go through a whole school day without the need to recharge. The bloatware was a little annoying but easy to get rid of.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impresssed...and happy!

Pros: From the box and packaging it came in to the actual tablet this Acer Iconia Tab W700 is awesome. There are so many fine details in the construction, fit and finish, it really impressed me. The quality really shows. The included docking station and keyboard are really first rate and very easy to use. The leather tablet case is beautiful, very high quality and is a real unexpected bonus.
As for the tablet, it worked immediately and perfectly right out of the box. I did not have issues with the wireless, but downloaded the drive update anyway. I connected a Windows Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Windows Wedge Touch Mouse (both Bluetooth) effortlessly. I bought the extra keyboard and Mouse to stow in my laptop bag while keeping the included Acer docking station and Acer Bluetooth keyboard at home.

I'm thrilled with this tablet, especially since I can run every Windows program I want easily. My wife's iPad is a kid's toy next to this Acer W700.

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsRoy

Pros: Have enjoyed this little pc greatly. Out of the box did not have any wifi problems but did download the upgrade. I also installed windows 8 pro. So far just learning how to use it to make things easier. Battery life is very good, more than 5-6 hours easy.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this to anyone looking for a more portable pc to use just about anywhere.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful, Fast, Cool, and a Bargain!

Pros: This thing is super fast! I was expecting for it to be slower than our laptop (i7 Dell), but I do believe it’s faster. I know that it is because of the SSD, but this thing is responsive.

FULL Windows 8 64-bit and USB 3.0!!

It is somewhat lighter and cooler than I thought that it would be. I knew that if I needed a tablet for more than just content consumption I would need more hardware, which means more weight generally, but I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable this is to hold for moderate periods of time. The temp, even after extended use, is low. I can tell if my hand is heating the case or if its the i5!!

Lastly, this comes with a docking station that expands your 1 on board USB 3.0 to 3 and has HDMI; Bluetooth keyboard; and a really nice sleeve (although I am not a huge fan of the color) for $750-$800…that is just crazy. I paid $747 from another site. An iPad is that much without any extras (not to mention, besides the display, the lackluster hardware).

Cons: The cameras suck. I expected the front facing to suck, but the rear 5MP camera is pretty bad as well. The 5MP is fine for FB pics, but anything else you will still need a camera.

Windows 8 is still young. There are still a LOT of apps that will not work on Windows 8. My wife has to have Square for taking CC payments and there is no support from Square on Windows 8… this is just one example of the app problems we have been having. It will take a little while for Windows to catch up with iOS and Android in the touch/mobile device arena.

Other Thoughts: We have had ZERO wireless issues. I am not if we got lucky or if Acer fixed the problem, but we have had no issues. I will update if we start having issues.

5 out of 5 eggsan excellent tablet

Pros: -clear, bright, colorful screen
-fast i5 processor handles everything like a champ
-I'm able to do light gaming with it.
-handy dandy usb3.0 port + mini hdmi if you are into that sort of thing
-windows 8 pro let it act like a "regular pc" with ease. Windows 8 on the whole is really growing on me.
-I think it is really beautifully designed, aesthetics are nice.
-long battery life for the demands this thing makes as a tablet. 5-7 hours typically if I leave it on and use it heavily. Will easily last waaaayyyyy longer than that if you are using it sporadically and putting it to sleep when not in use.
-speaking of sleep mode, it comes out of it immediately.
-cold boots to login in about 6 seconds. Give or take 1. That's insane. Once in, metro interface is instantly ready and smooth, even if 'desktop' tasks are doing their normal loading. (you should keep that to a minimum though...)
-comes with a nice quality leather-ish flip\fold\angle case. I'd like to point out that some people say it blocks the rear camera. That part if the case actually is a Velcro flap that reveals it. Discovered that on accident.
-comes with a desk stand to mount it in\expand usb slots. Don't care that its plastic, I'm happy to have it.
-not very heavy. 2 pounds and some change. It feels well made. Considering what it does, I'm surprised it doesn't weigh twice as much.

Cons: -Front camera is laughable, quality wise, but whatever, at least it has one. Haven't used them much yet, so dunno. Rear one seems pretty par.
-I really wish Intel would get their act together and offer a better GPU solution. The hd4000 is not terrible for what they need it to do, but it isn't great by any means. I know this isn't a gaming device, necessarily so maybe I shouldnt complain. The i5 helps carry some of the weight, and it does run many games way better than I expected.
-I wish I had a separate button to temporarily turn the screen off instead of full on sleep mode button.
-no sd reader, but it aint a deal breaker, trust me.

You may choose to remove all the Acer ware that it comes with. I did eventually. Some might find it useful.
Uninstall McAfee asap. Windows has its own defenders.

Other Thoughts: IMPORTANT: update your wireless driver. Ends any issues.
ALSO IMPORTANT: go through the power plan settings, maybe make a couple different ones. The balanced mode may be throttling its performance sometimes, especially games. I was getting bad results until I put it in high Performance mode while on battery so that it was allowed to pump out the frames per second.

"Desktop" Gaming: expect to be able to play most games at low or mid settings, maybe at lower resolutions sometimes, and still get a very enjoyable experience. Do not expect to play a graphics intensive games and have a great time. have steam installed and a few other things. Search YouTube for various demos of it running games. You may be surprised what it can do with certain games, and let down with others. Tis the nature of games.

FINAL THOUGHTS: this is not a tablet for the light of heart. Its got some meat on it, and a buttload of features that simply blow all other tablets away. I am in love with this thing. Some say this is expensive for a tablet. Its not just a tablet. Its a full on windows pc. This is worth every penny.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Nice Tablet

Pros: - The accessories that come with the tablet including a portfolio case, the cradle, and keyboard are pretty nice bonuses
- Overall performance is really nice; take seconds to boot up and shut down and wait time to open local apps is nothing (luv SSD)
- Battery life when you have your power setting and app management configured correctly is excellent (10 to 12 hours easily)
- The screen is a beautiful display; things like showing pictures and watching Hulu look awesome on this tablet
- On-board USB is really nice to have

Cons: - Similar to what everyone else has posted, out of the box this unit had wireless issues where it would lose connectivity constantly (which is the reason for the minus egg); Acer did recently post a new version of the Atheros driver (12/28). I downloaded it and its night and day how much better the WiFi is working. "http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers" then navigate to pick the W700 tablet

- This is really novelty but Acer has zero accessories posted on their site for purchase. I'm not a huge fan of the brown colored portfolio case and I haven't found any other sites for a spare AC adapter that I'm confident in

- Again a "me preference" thing but it would have been nice to have an SD card slot. I have a card reader but its just something extra I wish I didn't need to worry about

- Acer bloatware with the exception of the Acer power button shortcut and power management app

Other Thoughts: I'll try to make this review not about the OS...First and foremost though, I have to warn that Windows 8 is a learning curve for all.

I was personally in the market for something that was small, portable, had some power under the hood, and worked with all my Windows apps natively. I've been very happy with this tablet. The Intel i5 really shows its superior performance to the atom processor (however, I'm sure the i3 version isn't bad). Comparing this tablet to an iPad isn't really fair. This is a tablet with a full OS on it. I've installed several apps outside of the MS app store and haven't run into any issues (please note, I think iOS devices are great and I own an iTouch happily).

The tablet is a slightly heavy making it a little awkward to hold by itself but honestly, I don't find myself holding it by itself that often. It's usually in the portfolio carrying case in some shape or form. I think this is a slightly tough sell because of the price point (which is better than most of the i5 Win 8 tablets out there but comparable to the iPad) but I have to say, it really does hit the mark in regards to being a great, portable, fully usable Windows device. Would recommend for sure

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Experience

Pros: When the wireless works in 5 minute intervals it's an amazing experience. Windows 8 is fantastic on a tablet.

Cons: The wireless NIC and drivers that come with this tablet are worthless. Avoid this tablet at all costs and just wait for a Surface Pro if you're in the market for one.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Iconia W700 - Great WHEN it Works

Pros: Windows 8.
Cleverly designed stand.
Includes Bluetooth keyboard.
Includes a case that doubles as a portable stand.

Cons: Nonexistent support from Acer.
Idiotic settings that cause the Wi-Fi to stop working every 10 minutes.

Other Thoughts: After two weeks with the tablet, I was ready to demand a refund because what is arguably the most important function for a tablet (Wi-Fi connectivity) was unreliable to the point of being unusuable. It lost Wi-Fi connectivity even 10 minutes or so, which required me to reset the adapter.

Ideally, the solution would be to contact Acer but the suggestions I received by e-mail were to perform the tasks that I had already done. I had, of course, covered my troubleshooting basics in my message to Acer.

Then I tried an online chat. Thirty minutes after I submitted the request, I was still waiting for a response.

In the meantime, I had visited the chat section of the Acer website. Someone had asked a similar question and more than 100 responses followed, some from people who reported the same problem but had been told by Acer that there is no problem and some from people who offered suggestions.

The solution is relatively simple: Some fool at Acer decided that it would be a good idea for the tablet to shut off the Wi-Fi adapter to save power. So you get a tablet that has a longer battery life but it useless for most of what you'll want a tablet to do.*

Although I'm not at all impressed by Acer's quality control, logic, or customer service, I'll still give the tablet 4 eggs. Once you get it running, it works well.

*The solution involves digging far down into the power settings and de-selecting the option to turn the Wi-Fi adapter off to save power. For details, visit the Acer website and search the community discussion board's tablet section.
