5 out of 5 eggsWhat a Laptop - its Wizard!

Pros: Very light weight design in a slick package. It's half tablet, half laptop with a physical keyboard and wireless mouse. The touch screen is fantastic.

This is the future of ultra-books and it's here now.

Every Acer I've purchased has been solid, this looks to be no different despite its fancy design aspirations.

This was bought for a travelling executive who doesn't do much more than read email and browse the web, but needed a real Windows laptop just in case he needed to do some real work.

This device takes the best of both formats and it absolutely kills. I recommend this as a lightweight, travelling computer without reservations.

Cons: Windows 8.

Costs three times as much as a cheap laptop that will do everything this machine will do, albeit with far less style points and twice the weight.

Other Thoughts: Despise Windows 8 on a desktop computer all you want (I do too) but on this it works.

3 out of 5 eggsstylish, pricey, disappointing

Pros: Beautiful and stylish, light weight. Touchscreen, windows 8* (also a con), great 1080p display

Cons: Several disappointments, battery seems like it lasts only around 4 hrs web browsing at 1/2 brightness, touchpad is only a few steps above horrendous (that distinction is for the Asus Zenbook Prime touchpad which was so bad I had to return the laptop for this one, for example typing an email every few words the cursor would jump to a random location) but the touch screen allows you to avoid using it most if the time and a wireless mouse is included. Windows 8 is nifty with fun new interface, but 3 out of 3 programs I tried to install on it would not run at all using any compatibility mode. Lame.

Other Thoughts: I really needed a new laptop for work, I also really wanted a 1080p screen, ultrabook, and will not buy an apple product (that's a whole other story), so this was my best option. If you do not need it right away, I would wait for things to improve especially with Windows 8 compatibility. What good is a computer if you can't run the software you want on it except stupid apps like their angry birds ripoff?

5 out of 5 eggsVery pleased so far

Pros: We ordered on Friday, the computer came on Monday! Kudos to Newegg for great customer service. We bought this computer because it is very light, and it was one of the few ultralights with a touch screen, needed to make full use of Win 8 features. We're still learning Win 8, but no issues yet.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: My husband needs a light machine for travel, and this meets that requirement. However, he is not a Windows fan (would rather stick with DOS!!) and we are not sure if all the custom software he uses will operate correctly.

4 out of 5 eggsReview Followup

Pros: Review Update

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my previous review. My battery runtime test results for this model should have said 4:42. The 5:32 time I posted was for the i7 version of this laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat ultra-portable, but limited on upgrade options

Pros: Extremely thin and light, but still feels very solid
Beautiful 1920x1080 display
the best, most usable touch screen I have seen on a laptop
Includes a travel case
Includes micro-HDMI to VGA and USB to ethernet adapters
Small footprint AC adapter
Decent battery life for its weight/size
Very usable touchpad
SSD Hard drive

Cons: Memory is not upgradable
Atheros wifi is not upgradeable
Pricey for what it is

Other Thoughts: First off I should point out that this version DOES include the same leather-like Acer case Newegg has pictured with the S7-391-9886, which was a pleasant surprise. It also fits perfectly in cases designed for the Macbook Air 13.3.

The display is amazing, but the high resolution makes the desktop itself a little hard to read. It is easy enough to fix by increasing font size, and I don't view this as a con, as it is always better to have too much resolution than not enough.

The hard drive has a 14Gb hidden partition that contains a system image. To create a backup using the Acer software, you will need a dedicated 16Gb or larger USB drive. The software will format the drive, turning it into a bootable windows 8 install disk complete with the extra Acer software.

The big complaint I have is on the non-upgradeable hardware. I understand the size demands removing standard sockets, but this means the memory and wifi chip are both built into the mainboard, and cannot be upgraded. And the wifi chip is an Atheros, which despite several different driver versions, I flat out could not get connected to 3 different Netgear routers when set to WPA2/AES encryption. WPA works fine, just not WPA2/AES.

There is very little travel on the keys, and it takes a bit of getting used to. I returned the first laptop because the "S" and down arrow keys were so sensitive they would register a key press just by resting a finger on them. Actually pressing the keys resulted in a triple key register. None of the other keys were this way, and this problem was not present on the replacement I received. So along with looking for dead pixels, this might be something to check when you receive the laptop.

Also worth noting, the HDD is a Lite-On branded PCI-E form factor SSD (with Toshiba stamped on the chips). I had no luck finding details on the particular model, but the form factor alone means your hard drive upgrade options are limited and expensive.

After the first few charge cycles, I was able to get an average of 5:32 of web browsing/music playing out of the battery, using both wifi and the bluetooth mouse, and with the screen brightness all the way up.

Deducting 1 egg for price and lack of upgrade options. Otherwise this is a 5 egg laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsBeautiful but crippled

Pros: Beautiful notebook. Its really nice to work with and gorilla glass makes it even more beautiful. It's so thin with manageable weight, its hard to believe. Windows 8 finally finds it's home on this one

Cons: The graphics are extremely crippled. Seriously?Intel Graphics? No wonder people keep buying MACs that come with great graphics cards for this price. 128gb ssd is just plain bad decision. I would rather have a hybrid or 7200 rpm drive. Probably what i will get for this price range on a MAC.

Other Thoughts: Shame on Acer for not being able to do what Apple has always been able to with this price range. There is no saving PC market with this kind product
