1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Junk

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: This item is not a computer. It's a toaster oven. I've kept it cleaned out, on a flat surface with a cooling pad, and everything you should do to ventilate your systems but this thing will run so hot that it approaches painful to touch. It shuts itself off from overheating. I would not buy this again if it was the only laptop left on Earth.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Excellent

Pros: Excluding the dedicated graphics card, this laptop has pretty decent specs for the price I paid. WIth the graphics card... geez. What a freaking deal. This thing works great!! It needs another 4gb stick of ram and an SSD, but that's not a big deal these days. This thing even has the dedicated mouse buttons (instead of built into the touchpad).

Great laptop, wish I could buy more for my extended family members.

Cons: Windows 8. (scrap that for Win7 and no problems)

Other Thoughts: Has been great for college. Good battery life works great for writing papers while out and about. The graphics card is awesome for Steam games. Just HDMI to the TV and hook up a wireless Xbox controller and BAM!! ...what homework??

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up Review

Pros: Cheap
Great Performance for the price
Keyboard Layout is very comfortable
Number Pad

Cons: Gloss Finish
Very time intensive to get to the CPU heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Purchased in 1/15/13. Still running strong. I did swap out the original drive for an SSD because the original hard drive started to bog down the laptop bad (I have no large programs aside from Office and Photoshop on this either). I also changed the RAM to 8GB (2x4GB) 1600 MHz RAM.

I just wanted to comment that if you have the courage to disassemble this laptop to get to the CPU heatsink, changing the thermal paste is a good idea. I also sanded the copper plates for the CPU / GPU. I used Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400 in a rice grain size amount. My laptop temp dropped nearly 10C. Acer (And well, every laptop OEM for that matter) really like to cake on a lot of thermal paste onto the laptops.

Intel Burn Test (Yeah, I run Intel Burn Test on normal laptops for stability checks) dropped from 78C to 68C at full load.

5 out of 5 eggsStill working strong

Pros: Follow up to my previous review:
It's lived for about a year and a half now. Originally purchased 1/15/2013.
It puts some higher end laptops to shame with it's pure price to performance ratio.
I really like the black out function key that Acer put on the keyboard. Good for when the lights go out during a lecture when the professor plays a video.
With some upgrades, you can really unlock performance on this laptop to be something potent.

Cons: Glossy Finish is kind of annoying.

Some may not like Windows 8. I got used to it (Yes, without using a third party start menu). It seems we might get it back in the new Windows 8 update though.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded the RAM on this laptop to 8 GB (2 x 4GB) not too long after using it (About 2 weeks). It improved the GPU / CPU memory score by a lot.

I swapped out the factory hard drive (It was starting to lag down due to too many hibernation states from me shuffling from class to class). I swapped it out for a Crucial M500 240 GB that I got from Newegg for $100. The disk reads at 480 MB/s now, making it boot in a matter of seconds instead of the 4-5 min I was getting before. The old hard drive is tossed into my spare drive pile, as I still want the DVD drive / too lazy to install a caddy into it.

However, with all of these upgrades, the laptop ($550) with the ram upgrade ($50), and new SSD ($100), costs $700 total. However, it boots faster than my friend's i7 Sony laptop that was $1000 and is just a tad slower in CPU performance. But wow, this laptop is very good after all of the bottle necks are removed. I get around 2.5 hours on battery, up to 4 if I'm not doing much and have the backlight dimmed down.

Finally, I never knew this, but when I installed my SSD, you can go download and burn a Windows 8 retail ISO, then use the OEM key to activate it after one call to Microsoft. If I had known this, I would have done so when I originally got the laptop to get rid of the Acer stuff on it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop for the price

Pros: It's cheap and has a Nvidia GPU, which is better than intel's integrated graphics. Study construction, and has been working fine for me. Windows 8 does get some time getting used to, even after updating to Windows 8.1.

I upgraded the RAM to 8 GB, and it's working fine.

Cons: Windows 8.1 is a good OS, but it has it's quirks. If you don't use the start menu as much as I do, then it is a good OS. I do think I shouldn't have to install a third party start menu to regain functionality.

The finish is glossy and attracts fingerprints, but I'm not one to really care about finger prings unless they're on the screen.

The laptop is limited to 8 GB ram because of the Windows 8 OS. Windows 8 Pro or Windows 7 Ultimate would remove this limitation.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend upgrading the RAM to some 1600 Mhz or faster RAM (2 x 4GB sticks). It's about $50 dollars and will improve the performance of the GPU (Since it relies on the speed of the DRR3 memory).

I plan on upgrading to an SSD / a larger battery when I get more funds to do so. Debating on Windows 7 installing Windows 7 later on. After all, Windows 8 does come with the laptop anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine

Pros: Big screen, nice keyboard, fast, good battery life, great sound for a laptop, looks nice, good game performance, discreet graphics card.

Cons: A little heavy, but it's a big laptop. Touch pad is a little awkward, it's large and tends to get in the way a lot when typing. Using a mouse and disabling the touchpad is preferable if possible.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop for gaming, not the best out there, but very respectable, and value priced. The performance is excellent, and adding an SSD would take this over the top.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Computer after a few upgrades

Pros: Great Budget built computer, has everything it needs to play most modern games. After upgrading the RAM to 8gb, switching out the hard drive for a solid state, putting in an extended battery and "upgrading" to windows 7, this computer works like a charm, boots in about 17.5 seconds with my solid state which is absolutely amazing.

The Original battery life of the computer was about 4 hours which was decent, but I got an extended 7800 mah battery which is now lasting about 7 hours of solid internet browsing, but it will go two hours of gaming.

the orignal hard drive is used in place of the optical in a second hard drive caddy which is real convenient having the extra space and having all the main programs stored on the ssd.

Games are smooth and I have only had a few real good lags. The computer does have a warm point if you have it sitting on your lap but if you can balance it on one knee like me then your fine.

Cons: Touchpad inconveniently located, along with power button and the dvd tray button. The power button is something to get used to and isnt really a con but I think it should have been placed further in because for the first few weeks I had a problem with placing my thumb right there when pick the computer up and moving it and it would shut down. Though I got used to it. The dvd drive was always opening just from the slightest bump and the touch pad needs to be moved an inch to the right. Seems my right had has all this free room to move and my left hand has to stay cocked to the left or sitting on its side.

I fixed the cons though replaced the dvd drive with a second hard drive caddy since I won't use the dvd drive anyways, and if I do I have an external, and the touch pad is off and I use a wireless mouse. Its easier that way anyways

Other Thoughts: This is one of the best computers I have owned and I use it everyday for anything from browsing the internet to playing games. With my upgrades the computer is a true performer.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price... sort of.

Pros: Cheap. Quality processor, decent graphics card, decent keyboard.

Cons: Windows 8. Glossy. USB ports often don't work. The screen sometimes doesn't come on and requires me to restart.
I wouldn't recommend purchasing an Acer.. The price is tempting, I know, but you really do get what you pay for. :b

5 out of 5 eggsGreatest thing since sliced bread!

Pros: This laptop offers it all; great Graphics card, High speed HDD, and a fairly decent processor. As a regular gamer I put most of my tech through rigorous tests, and so far, this laptop has done very well.

If you are any bit tech savvy you know that there is only 3 companies that you buy from if you want great quality tech, and Acer is one of them.

Runs almost as good as the Gaming build I have, and starts up faster than it at times.

Cons: A few WIFI connectivity problems, but seemed to have been resolved with recent updates.

Other than Windows 8 being terrible, This laptop is top notch.

Other Thoughts: Iobit offers a program that gives Windows 8 a start menu button similar to that of Windows 7.

It may also be a good idea to put in more RAM as this laptop seems to want to run at 25%- 30% RAM usage all the time.
