4 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire V3-571-9890

Pros: -Core i7 3632QM processor w/ Turbo Boost.
-Nice design (Though a finger print magnet.)
-Great touchpad
-Great, separated, chiclet type keys
-Not too heavy, not very light either.
-6GB of RAM more than enough.

Cons: -No backlit keyboard
-5400 Hard drive (88 Read / 76 Write) (Slow)
-Integrated Graphics 4000 (Can max out on a game at med setting.)
-One HDD Bay
-GPU Non upgradeable
-1366x768 Resolution
-No Caplock/Numlock Indicator light

Other Thoughts: This is an overall "decent" laptop. This is FAR FROM a gaming laptop. The Integrated graphics and the Hard Drive are what is holding this system back from its full potential.

I suppose this would be a good laptop for a novice user who doesn't mind much for gaming or specs and such. Good for school, note taking, business.

I always notice reviewers whining over Windows 8. It's actually not all that bad. I personally like it more than Window 7. The thing is people are afraid of change. It might take a short while to get used to but it eases its way into your comfort zone. I find it much more appealing to the eye as well. Only problem i had with Windows 8 was the missing start key on the desktop. This was easily fixed with a program called Pokki which added one.

Sadly, this laptop was not what i was looking for. I impulse bought this at my schools bookstore thinking it would be great for college and gaming, i was wrong. I tried returning this WITHIN the 30 days of purchase and they wouldn't take it back no matter how much of a fight i put up. I'm currently in the process of finding out what to do with this laptop. May try to contact Acer and see what they can do for me, or try to sell it on e b a y or craigslist.

LONG STORY SHORT: Good laptop. Slow hard drive. Bad Graphics. Not for gaming.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and messy

Pros: It was just an "okay" laptop out of the box but when I replaced the drive with an SSD... wow. *That* was the bottleneck. Like night and day. Very good deal for the dollars.

Cons: There are always trade offs. (1) Shiny case = fingerprints, big time. Like a six year old and a bag of potato chips. I would never take it to a business meeting. (2) DVD player seemed to hiccup a couple of times (3) Putting an SD chip in the slot would make the hard disk light flicker non-stop and would slow the laptop down. Haven't contacted support on this yet.

Other Thoughts: I've been in IT for > 25 years so I don't impress easily. Even with the problems I would still buy and recommend it. Too bad about the shiny case, though.
