2 out of 5 eggsGood Hardware, cheap product!!!

Pros: Processor
Video Card
Big Screen

Cons: Cheap Plastic
Cheap and easily breakable screen and case
Over heating
Hard to clean (not for the layman)
Stock warranty
Loose and cheap VGA adapter

Other Thoughts: Decent laptop, but definitely purchase an extended warranty, at least 2 to 3 years.
Had mine for only a few months before I got a hairline crack in the screen. A few more months, they numeric keypad stopped working. Another month, VGA stopped working.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: -Very good specs for the price.
-Good battery life.

Cons: -A little heavy for carrying around all the time.
-Screen is not the best quality. Color reproduction and viewing angles are the weakest aspects of this machine.

Other Thoughts: For the price, a very good laptop. I bought this as a replacement for my old desktop and have found it to be reliable. I bought a second screen for it and usually use that as the main monitor, as the color reproduction on the laptop is quite poor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Nice Screen, Speedy Graphics Card, Price, Size, nice keyboard, fast!

Cons: No backlit keyboard, monitor not full 1080p.

Other Thoughts: I havent had any problems with this laptop and I use it everyday for work, gaming, etc. I have a beast of a desktop and this laptop runs every game I have thrown at it just like my tower. Hook it up to your big screen and frag someone!

4 out of 5 eggsI love it.

Pros: I haven't tested it out playing GW2 yet, so I don't know how it will hold up. For normal, every day use - perfect. This thing can sit in my lap (even on top of a blanet sometimes) and not get hot at all.

Cons: I'm not a fan of Windows 8, but that has nothing to do with the laptop itself. The only complaint I have is the touchpad buttons... you have to click on the far left or far right for anything to happen. Clicking near the center does nothing. Oh, and the battery life is okay. I mostly stay plugged in, though.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the Buck

Pros: 1) i7 Quad-Core 35w w/ Turbo Boost to 3.1 GHz
2) 1TB HDD
3) 8GB of DDR3 RAM
4) Dual-Band Wireless Adapter 450MBps (150 2.4GHz/300 5.0GHz)
5) GeForce 650 GT
6) 17" LCD/LED Backlit Screen
7) Not 1366x768 resolution
8) Full Numberpad
9) VGA and HDMI Out
10) Two 2.5" HDD Slots
11) mSATA/Mini PCI-e slot

I got all this for $899. It has decent cooling for a under $1000 laptop. It officially only supports up to 16GB of RAM, but can have up to 32GB of RAM.

Cons: 1) HDD is only 5400RPM
2) Viewing angles are horrible on the screen
3) It's not 1920x1080 resolution
4) The HDD Caddy and screws are not included for the second slot
5) The mSATA slot probably doesn't work (have not tested, but will soon)

Everyone wishes their newly purchased laptop had every feature, but I understand this can't be as the price was very cheap.

The only thing I was mildly displeased about was that the laptop was ~$70 cheaper a few days later, and Newegg refused to give me credit, although many other's were successful (come on I was nice :)

Oh yea, the glossy really attracts finger prints and dust, but I like glossy. I wish there was to make it matte though.

Other Thoughts: I wish I was rich and daring, then I would try sanding down the glossy surface to make it matte. But then I would have bought a 15" Macbook Pro Retina. I will upgrade this laptop slowly little by little. It's just too good to sell as I won't get enough for what it's worth. I will pass it on to my brother, when I purchase a new laptop.

Overall this is a great laptop for the price with lots of upgradeable specs.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for a bit.

Pros: Worked just fine at first, about 8 hours. Boot, updates and installs went pretty fast. Played some music, surfed the interwebs just fine. Never tried to boot a game or much else.

Cons: The packaging was subpar at best. The bubble wrapping was very loosely packed. I immediately noticed how the packing allowed for the inner box containing the laptop to move around a lot. Bad for a bumpy UPS ride.

After 8 hours of updates, file transfers (music and games) and installs, I was just about ready to go. Suddenly I noticed the transfer stalled. I waited... nothing. Mouse cursor moved, no keyboard or click response. Without another option I did a hard reboot. It stalled on boot infinitely. Another hard reboot, it sluggishly got to windows, blue screen. On two restarts it said there was no bootable device. Third finally got to windows but ever since the machine will not respond for 30-90 seconds at a time, only allowing operation for about 5-10 seconds at a time.

There's nothing I added except music, documents, and 3-4 games on Steam. I was asleep through a lot of it, hence the long setup time.

Other Thoughts: Newegg offered to RMA replace the laptop, takes about 7-10 business days. Acer offered to repair it after me sending it in, or replace the HDD by a) me sending it in and waiting for the new one or b) them holding the cost on my card while they ship me the new one and releasing the charge upon getting the defective one. Either way I have to pay $20 for an OS recov disk (b.s.!).

Not sure what to do.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Following up on a previous Post of mine, I purchased an SSD and upgraded to 16 GBs, this machine now boots in 2 seconds flat. I noticed someone earlier AND the product stats say this doesnt have a second bay drive slot and is maxed out at 8gbs ram. Im here to confirm there is indeed 2 drive bays and can be upgraded to 16 GBS. I do have a question as to where i can find a second hard drive mount kit for this unit, as I tried to speak to acer support and a Michael C was EXTREMELY RUDE when he told me i was on my own and had to figure it out.. IF anyone does have an idea, xiastro1ix@gmail

Cons: No second mount kit for drive bay, bloatware which is pretty useless.

Other Thoughts: This computer will be the last one i shall think i would need for years, i run every game you can possible think is popular nowadays on max settings on a 32 inch LED TV and still run 60+ FPS. All that would be left for this machine is 3D built in and my life is complete haha.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: I've had this machine for a few hours and am writing the review out of the box. There may be an update later. The machine runs very fast out of the box. Set up takes less than 10 minutes. It's a great value for the price so far. The keyboard has the extended keyboard with a number pad. The buttons are a nice matt black so they don't show smudges so quickly. The rest of the machine is a shiny black, which does show smudges quickly. It's a big screen if you aren't used to a 17.3" but definitely worth it.

Cons: It's running Windows 8. There is a very steep learning curve for windows 8. This really isn't a problem with the machine, but since it's preloaded with 8 - yeah, it lost an egg.

Other Thoughts: I think the machine will run adobe creative suite 5 with ease as well as suit gaming needs. That has yet to be determined. Time for more play testing.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA...

Pros: Very nice specs on paper. I am upgrading from an i5 model of the same laptop.

Cons: Unfortunately - the laptop is DOA. The screen was not only slightly open on one side, seems to not close properly, it also had tape left from the manufacturing process stuck in between the LCD display and the plastic molding around it. It was as if someone grabbed this laptop from the reject pile in the manufacturing facility.

I am sure that this is a great laptop model. However, I work as an IT manager for a production facility and I have very little patience when it comes to poor quality controls on such a blatant level.

The laptop doesn't turn on and it wasn't finished being put together. It makes me wonder if a stressed out production manager was sneaking in models from the QC failure bin just to meet his/her quota.

I am opening an RMA with NewEgg. Hopefully, the replacement will work.

Other Thoughts: For those pointing out issues with not being able to get into the BIOS or being unable to install an operating system - I highly suggest you read up on UFEI. You cannot get into the BIOS, because there is no more BIOS to get into anymore. It also requires the operating system boot loader to be properly signed with a certificate. There are several Linux distributions that are properly signed and give you instructions on how to install it correctly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming Laptop

Pros: Affordable price (was on sale for $849), good processor and graphics card for gaming, absolutely fantastic keyboard as one or more other reviewers have pointed out! Perfect for when you need to play most current/new games on the go and you want good visuals from high graphics settings.

Cons: For a 17 inch laptop, the resolution is a touch lower than average at 1600x900, (many 17 inch have 1920x1080 resolution). This isn't a major issue, and probably explains the good price, as this laptop's hardware is almost as good as quite a few $1200 laptops designed for gaming.

The wrist rest surface and the lid surface show smudges VERY easily, but again only just a minor issue.

Other Thoughts: You should never expect a laptop to be your main ultra-gaming runs-anything-as-smoothly-as-butter machine, but if you want to be able to play most games on the go or at a friend's house with high graphics settings and fast loading times, then this laptop is easily your answer.

Cheaper laptops exist with smaller screens but beware their catches! The Nvidia 650M card is actually quite powerful for a laptop graphics card.. Many other cheaper machines have cheaper, less powerful graphics cards.

Also beware other machines with better prices and only 6 gigs of ram. Ram runs best when you have two sticks of equal make and size. 8 gigs means 2 sticks of 4gigs... While 6 gig laptops mean 1 stick of 4gigs and 1 stick of 2gigs, which can lower performance.

The description of this laptop also doesn't mention the second hard drive port. You can use this to add more storage space or even increase the performance of the machine by loading the operating system and core programs on a solid state drive. The 5400 rpm hard drive it comes with can then be used as extra storage or set up with the SSD as a storage pool using Windows 8 Storage Spaces feature, allowing redundancy backups of all your files and settings.

To summarize, when I want the ultimate gaming performance, I stay at home and play on my high-end custom built desktop. But when I want to play those same games with a group of friends somewhere else, I can rely on this laptop to outperform even some of their more expensive name brand gaming machines.
