4 out of 5 eggsVery nice, but....

Pros: Light
Full Windows 8
Fast

Cons: Stylus doesn't work well
Poor choice for writing

Other Thoughts: I bought this tablet because it had full Windows 8 so I could use Office Pro with it. It works great, but the after market stylus doesn't work well with it. The capcative tip is so fat that you can't write normally or naturally.

If you want to write get a Samsung (Win 8) or Surface that has a good pen. If Acer could have put a Waccom screen on this like the Surface, they would rule the market. Overall I'm not disappointed that I got it - but it didn't meet my expectations.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer...Impressive!

Pros: Excellent (~10 hr.) battery life on aggressive settings, IPS screen is crystal clear and lends itself well to reading webpages. Screen is very responsive to tactile inputs.

"Clovertrail" iteration of Intel Atom is quite an improvement over older "Diamondville" tech. While not a powerhouse, it provides all the horsepower one needs in something this size. 2GB of RAM is sufficient for the CPU capacity, I feel.

Cons: Often times I have found intermittent connectivity problems with WiFi when awakening the device from a sleep state. WiFi (in several locations, not just my primary location) will locate and connect to the network, but only with limited access until I disconnect/reconnect, after which it functions as intended.

I will continue to mourn the lack of a user-serviceable battery on these devices, or in its absence, one that with some work could be replaced.

Other Thoughts: For my primary application in finance, a small USB mouse has provided the vital and timely accuracy that finger gestures cannot, even considering how well Acer implemented gestures on the device.
Innocent mistakes in applications such as those I use can be costly. This, however, is not a criticism of the device but rather subjective preference for the surefootedness of a wired 1000dpi device.

4 out of 5 eggsx86 Tablet

Pros: I've had this tablet for a couple weeks now and here is what I have noticed about this tablet.

1.) This tablet comes with a full power operating system. This is a 32 bit x86 version of windows 8 so you don't have to worry about whether or not your favorite software is going to work.

2.) Solid build. It doesn't feel like it will break on me if I accidentally trip over the power cord and pull it off my desk.

3.) Powers on in less than 10 seconds. Extend your battery life by shutting this thing off entirely instead of putting it in standby.

4.) On the subject of battery life, i usually see between six and eight hours of batter life. If you're not running flash or cpu intensive applications you really don't need to bring the power adapter along during the day.

5.) Powerful enough. For what I'm doing with the tablet I really don't need that much power out of it. I'm using this tablet for work and school so at most I'm running open office and compiling code using visual studio or jdk. I do recommend turning down the visual features of windows 8 to maximize what the processor can actually do.

6.) Rotation lock. One thing that annoys me about my cell phone is I'll be sitting back relaxing and when I move the cell phone the wrong way it rotates the screen. At first I had this problem with the tablet, then I learned what the lock key on top of the tablet does. Thoroughly impressed by the fact this tablet actually has the function.

7.) Storage space is a plus on this one. It comes with a 64gb SSD and if you need more storage space just pop in a micro SD card and carry on. Kindof wish it had a full SDHC reader on it though, then i could use the cards I have for my camera on it.

Cons: There are also a couple of drawbacks with this tablet.

1.) It's slightly larger than the iPad, so good luck finding a bluetooth keyboard and cover combo that fits and won't break the bank. You may end up having to purchase the proprietary dock from acer.

2.) The power adapter is huge. It looks like one of the old ipod power adapters. The power adapter is also attached to the bottom side of the tablet so if you have the tablet sitting on the desk you will have the tablet either upside down or sitting on it's side. Because of the size and location you can't charge the tablet while it's in the case.

3.) Limited ports. I really don't care about the hdmi connection, but a couple more usb connections would have been nice. Also the one usb port is USB 2 so don't expect to be loading movies onto the tablet without a bit of a wait (but then again, the usb2 thing may be a limitation of the ATOM chipset.) At the very least acer could have provided a 4 port hub at the end of the included breakout cable instead of just the single straight-through usb port.

4.) The speakers are extremely shrill. Yes I know it's a problem with small form factor speakers but these ones in particular hurt. I can more comfortably turn up the volume on my cell phone than this thing.

5.) Slow load times. This is definitely a limitation of using the ATOM processor but expect to be waiting a bit if you open up a large program like office or visual studio. Once the software is loaded it is actually fairly smooth but it is still a wait.

6.) Lastly, the acer software is useless. If you know where to find the settings in windows 8 and use the windows app store you can honestly uninstall the software without losing any functionality.

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to say anything about windows 8 here other than the fact it's a full x86 version instead of the ARM version. I have a lot of bad things to say about the OS that really wouldn't fit in the frame of this review.

If you're looking for a tablet with decent storage space, a full operating system, and isn't limited by the processor's architecture then I would recommend this tablet. It's pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Also, a note on desktop performance. If you right click on my computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Performance Settings and set it to best performance most of the sluggish stuttering disappears entirely. Just make sure you turn text smoothing back on. Graphically it will still look like the windows 8 aero desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best tablet so far

Pros: 1) At 1.27lbs and 0.35 Inches it is lighter and slimmer than the iPad 4, 3, 2 and the original.
2) Runs all my old Windows programs (iPads or Android tablets can’t do that).
3) Wifi, full Bluetooth support, NFC, HDMI, MicroSD, 8mpxl Camera.
4) Bigger screen than iPad.
5) With 64gb it is less expensive than the iPad 4 and the same price as the 64gb iPad Mini.
6) Multi-purpose tablet is ready for business apps.
7) Battery has lasted enough to watch 4 Netflix movies (close to 7 hours of video watching).

Cons: 1) The built would feel better if it was made of a stronger material.
2) Windows Desktop on a tablet should let me pitch to zoom the same way it does in the Metro section.

Other Thoughts: This Acer Windows tablet is the best tablet so far. I’ve tried the Samsung Ativ with windows, the Dell Latitude 10 with windows, and the Lenovo with windows, the iPads and several Android ones, but they’re all heavier, thicker and less useful.
I bought two of these Iconias and everyone asks me what kind of tablet I have; they are amazed at what I can do with it.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Iconia W510-1666 w/o keyboard

Pros: Runs PC software (x32). Installed AutoCAD 2013, Mathcad Prime 2.0, accessed office Win7 PC with RealVNC viewer. Touch screen works great with Win8. Fun device.

Cons: Virtually no accessories available for the W510. No replacement power adapters, no flip cases, etc... to be found. As the device has been marketed for 2 and a half months, hopefully this will change soon, but deducted an egg due to this.

Other Thoughts: Two colleagues with iPads have already purchased this W510 and the W700 after seeing the device. I have retired my Kindle Fire and laptop in favor of this tablet. It is the size of an iPad, but it runs Windows software as well as apps. No regrets!

4 out of 5 eggsdepends on your need

Pros: I love the 10.1" size with 16:9 frame ratio, makes watching HD video much enjoyable and excellent screen quality.
This device works better if you run with IE10 which utilizes the tablet features design for Windows 8.
Since it's the Intel x86 plus Windows 8 so the flexibility is tremendous as compare to Android or iOS version.
I love those HDMI, USB, MicroSD ports plus Bluetooth, creating so many possible options for the users.

Cons: The interface design is not as neat as Apple iOS.
Body is not well build like iPad, lack of class.

Other Thoughts: I think the price will erode as more Windows 8 based tablets are coming out.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat in Theory, Lousy in Execution

Pros: The tablet body is light and attractive. The screen is gorgeous, despite the relatively low resolution. People have seen the tablet and commented on how attractive it is.

The CPU handles all Modern UI duties perfectly, despite being an older processor. Battery life is about the same as typical Android tablet.

Most desktop software runs fine, including older games like Icewind Dale II. I like that almost all of the buttons and connectors are in one location (upper right corner). Windows 8 feels very good on a touchscreen.

I think Microsoft has finally built an excellent mobile OS.

Cons: The desktop can get sluggish. Sometimes when I run a program, like an installation file, it will take about ten to fifteen seconds to open.

There were some minor bugs at first: wifi slow to connect when first booting up, occasional freeze, audio cutting. That would have fine as I could work around those, but then things got worse.

The tablet would go into sleep mode, as it should, but I was unable to get it to wake. I had to reset it to get back to the OS. I am not sure if the hardware was overheating (I was not running any actual software besides the OS) or there is a driver issue.

When I tried updating the graphics driver provided on the Acer website, it would install fine, but the computer would blue screen during restart and tell me it needed to restart. This is the first time a computer has tried to restart in the middle of a restart.

The lack of any sort of recovery media hinders my ability to reset to defaults, as it seems the backup on the tablet's drive is not working.

Acer's lack of accessories, aside from an overpriced keyboard dock, is troubling. Do they not have enough faith in this product to at least provided a form-fitting gel skin?

Other Thoughts: In theory, this is a suburb tablet. The tiled interface is fast, the app store has all the apps I need, and the desktop is a nice feature to have for the occasional bit of desktop software. I wanted so much to love this tablet, and for a short time I did.

In practice, this tablet is not ready for prime time. With the problems I mentioned above, I cannot recommend this unit.

It's hard to tell if this is a hardware problem, software problem, or a mix of both. Maybe this unit is a lemon? Whatever it is, the user experience is frustrating. Mind you, I am pretty well-versed in computers (I've been building them for 15 years), so I can only imagine a non-tech user wondering why they did not just buy an iPad.

I am going to try a different brand of Windows 8 tablet and see if I get better results.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Thin and light. The atom processor works great for this tablet. windows 8 works great on this tablet, acer did a great job on this tablet. It is much faster and much lighter than the w500 I purchased a year ago.

Cons: This particular tablet kept locking up on me. I would do a reset and it would work fine for a while and then it would lock up again. I believe it was just the particular unit that I purchased. I returned it the next day, because it locked up one time and did not boot back up until 10 minutes later. That scared me so I returned it to newegg. But other than it locking up those few times the tablet was great.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect compromise for a full function tablet

Pros: Its always a balance between power, battery, and function with tablets. w510 strikes the best balance so far.

Full windows 8 is necessary for the tab to really be a primary computer if you so choose. Yeah there is iOS, there is android, there is windows RT, but talk about complete functions and unlimited ecosystems, nothing beats good old windows.

Atom clover trail is necessary to really make it a portable tablet, by supplying long lasting battery life. Yeah Core i3, i5 are powerful, runs faster, but they also consume too much power, reduce battery life by 30-50%. Thats not a good enough portable solution.

10.1 screen size is perfect. I tried 11'6" tablet, its way too heavy to be held in hand for anything long than 15 minutes. On the other hand, although I love 7" android tablets, a windows OS doesn't work well on a 7" screen.

Cons: internal storage is not fast. Not sure if its SSD or something else, speed is quite slow.

Other Thoughts: With Surface RT comes in at $499, surface pro comes in at $89-$999. I really don't see the windows tablet take off. Its simply too expensive. Microsoft is miscalculating how willing customers are in shelling out big bucks for windows tablets.

However, w510 comes in a much cheaper price, which make it the only viable choice IMHO.
