2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Internally, works well and no problems.

Cons: Keyboard sensitivity is inconsistent. Keys don't always respond which is very difficult when typing large documents. Perhaps one letter is missing per 20 letters typed. I used to be a professional typist and can watch the letters not appearing on the screen, and it's a handful of them. Also, the left touchpad button sometimes gets stuck at odd times like when hitting the back button on the web browser sending me back several pages.

Other Thoughts: I'm reporting this review about 40 days after purchase when return policy had ended at 30 days. Bah!

1 out of 5 eggsRefurbished???

Pros: Style, processor speed, real nice keyboard, good speakers. This unit is about 8 months old. The unit looks and works like it is brand new, except for the DVD writer.

Cons: The Optical does not work. I seriously doubt anyone ever checked this unit for functionality. I replaced the inoperative Hitachi/LG (MAY 2012) DVD writer with a new Pioneer unit. Now I have a fully functional computer I can sell to a customer.

Other Thoughts: Newegg, you are putting your name on so called "refurbishd" products that are for the most part lease returns or used junk that some outfit with marginal technicians is servicing and selling to you. I have purchased several refurbished laptops from you and have had to fix or RMA about 50% of them. Those of us who can do the quick fix are lucky, but what about the rest of your loyal customers who can't fix them? You need to test these units BEFORE you ship them out! Your customers, many of which are repeat buyers deserve better!

4 out of 5 eggsA wonderful first machine

Pros: Very light, Very nice to have around, I found the set up of this to be very easy and very smooth. The features come as advertised.

Cons: 512 Video Ram, and it took me for ever in a day to figure out how to work the volume controls on the machine.

Other Thoughts: As this is my first lap top that I have ever owned I am very optimistic about how it will work out for me. I own an Acer Desk top machine that has been running strong for a few years now and I know that Acer is a very good brand in comparison to other places out there. And one thing to the manufacture. Are you assimilating Gateway, and eMachines in to your collective? =P

4 out of 5 eggsGood deal

Pros: The A8 has plenty of power for most things. Even the games I play run fine on it. Everything works great, and much better than I expected for the price. I'd recommend it to a friend any day.

The default wireless setting will give some people fits, but it is easily changed. It defaults to allowing your wireless connection to be shut down to save energy. Which dumps the connection. Just change the wireless adapter setting to turn off that 'feature' and all is good.

The track pad is somewhat overly sensitive and annoying, but again easily corrected by adjusting the settings to your taste.

I don't believe there is a better laptop on the market right now at this price point. It really is a great one overall.

Cons: A few cons. None terribly serious, but added up to total a 1 egg hit.

The stickers! Most came off pretty cleanly, but the ones that didn't were a huge mess to clean up. If you are going to put stickers on your product, please make sure they can be easily removed.

Another minor con is the shiny finish. It's a real fingerprint magnet. It's a nice looking finish when it isn't smudged up though.

The weight! It's a pretty heavy laptop. It makes me appreciate the push to ultrabooks.

All in all, pretty minor cons.

2 out of 5 eggs50/50

Pros: Great internet surfing speed. Decent at video editing. Fairly quiet when it's cool. As long as the computer is cool and elevated, it runs quite enough to forget it was on. But if it overheats - which is very easy to do- it sounds like a ceiling fan on speed three, not very quiet.
All of the components are fairly good, the graphics card is the only thing holding this laptop back.

Cons: Graphics card is somewhat "low" in performance. If you're looking to do anything besides surfing the web, this is not for you. I'm a gamer, I was looking for something to play at least minecraft on, this runs minecraft at a constant 10 fps. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to do anything more than surf the web and maybe some video editing. The speed of the page loading and what not, is completely reliant on the internet connection, and for me, it's not very fast, but still decent. This is a laptop, that at the very least could do with a RAM upgrade, I changed it to a 6GB instead of 4, But other than that, it's a surfing laptop, not a gaming laptop by any means.

Other Thoughts: When I first opened this computer and started it up, it came on within seconds. I thought the surfing speed was amazing ( I used to use a 7 year old laptop with 50GB on the hard drive). And even though this is a HUGE difference from my old laptop, it is still not up to the graphical standards of today.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat purchase

Pros: Great graphics/game processing (for a laptop)
Lightweight
The keyboard is a pleasure to type on.
Pretty good battery life (4 hours or so with SSD and brightness lowered)

Cons: Some may complain about the mousepad placement, but you'll probably adjust just fine.
Tons of bloatware, but that's gonna happen.
It's sometimes difficult for me to find correct typing placement on this keyboard but it's probably because I'm used to laptops without the number pad.
Needed to update wireless card drivers when I moved to windows 8. Not a big deal just a slight aggravation

Other Thoughts: Replaced HDD with SSD. added 4 gigs of RAM to get to the max of 8. Scored a 5.7.. and significantly helped response and battery life.
I looked everywhere and assumed this was the case, but could never confirm.... the 4 gigs standard in this laptop was 1x4 and not 2x2.

2 out of 5 eggsSpeakers Dead

Pros: Capable processor. Good price ($380 on sale). Scratches on lid can be masked when the glossy surface attracts fingerprints.

Cons: No sound comes from speakers. Can get sound, however, when plugging in headphones. Can't imagine a software setting that would allow this mode of operation.

Am guessing this was the original reason the laptop was returned. Too bad they didn't thoroughly check it before selling the second time.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent buy

Pros: Low price, responsiveness, game graphics, keyboard & keypad

Cons: memory, Hard drive

Other Thoughts: Replaced ram with ADATA xpg gaming pc3 12800 1.35v and it made a noticeable difference. Will replace HD with a 7200 rpm one and it should fly. So far, runs everything including current games at medium graphics, which is a enough considering the $380 I paid for it. Very, very satisfied.
