1 out of 5 eggsWorked great...now is nothing but problems.

Pros: I can update my Facebook status sometimes....?

Cons: The keyboard and more importantly the venting/cooling is way too lackluster to be considered a gaming laptop.

My computer has been sitting on a cooler since day one and it can still run into some serious issues with getting too hot. This problem is only compounded by the fact that the graphics card sits right under where your left hand will rest when playing a game that uses the WASD keys. By design you get way more heat build-up playing FPS/TPS games than any other kids because of this bad design. Running a turn-based strategy game, even a large scale one that can push the limits of the graphics card, produces less heat than a FPS/TPS running on medium-low graphics. That is just bad design.

The end result has been that the keys on the left hand side of the keyboard are starting to short out. It has become unpredictable as to which keys on the left side will actually work.

Other Thoughts: Acer shouldn't advertise this as a gaming laptop if they don't actually intend for people to play video games on it regularly. This laptop was obviously under-built for the purpose of gaming and as a result it is melting down after just six and a half months.

4 out of 5 eggsPros/cons

Pros: This is the first laptop I've owned. The full number keypad is nice.
The performance of the machine is also very good, and can do anything I need it to much faster than my outdated desktop.

Cons: The system crashed unexpectedly quite often, I am not sure if this is an issue with the computer itself, or with Windows 8. Either way, it is really annoying. Windows 8 was made for a touchscreen device, and is inconvenient on this laptop without a touchscreen.
The glossy surfaces of the laptop get blemished very quickly, if you want to keep this laptop looking clean, you best only pick it up with a microfiber cloth. Other than these things, This computer does everything it says it should and was a good buy for a college student like me.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks wonderfully

Pros: It is fast to boot, runs exactly as it is supposed to. It is a great laptop for the price I paid.

Cons: Has windows 8 on it(but simple fix with start8), and if you have to do a reset and your backup is corrupted. You have to contact Acer to get factory reset disks, since there was no hidden partition on the HDD.

Other Thoughts: Overall excellent laptop for the price I paid. A 5 egg laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsSome More Technical Info

Pros: The APU is user-serviceable (can be taken out and replaced).

The charger port can take some abuse (had a few incidents where people tripped over the cord).

Cons: The thermal paste was applied excessively on the APU and dGPU on my laptop. Your experience may vary.

The keyboard has ghosting with certain keys (noticeable with the Arrow keys).

Accessing the processor requires complete laptop disassemble.

UEFI installation of Windows 7 isn't possible (locks up on boot animation).

No keyboard status LEDs (Caps, Num, and Scroll Lock).

During high CPU load, the touchpad can become erratic (not work) randomly.

Touchpad physical click buttons can have difficulty registering clicks when pressed on the outter-edge.

Other Thoughts: The included Windows 8 key is for Core (not Professional).

After a bit of cleanup of the old thermal paste and a re-apply of a small amount of Arctic Silver 5, temps were a good deal better. Don't feel you "have" to do this though, as temperatures under normal use are fine.

The CPU socket is FS1.

Under Linux (at least with Ubuntu), Bluetooth will always be enabled on boot (if you turn it off and reboot, it'll be enabled again).

When disassembling, the top half comes off first (black touchpad area, then Keyboard), then you remove 2-3 screws to remove the motherboard.

The 7660G iGPU is ARUBA, and the 7670M dGPU is TURKS. The 7670M is a 6xxx rebrand.

The dual graphics setup is muxless (no hardware mux). The iGPU (7660G) is the primary adapter, and is the one driving the display. The dGPU (7670M) is dedicated to rendering.

There is no driver for the dGPU (7670M) under Windows XP x64.

The keyboard is Chicony. Can be replaced if needed.

USB 2.0 ports are on their own board and connected to the motherboard via ribbon cable. The USB 3.0 port is on the motherboard.

Do not enable Pci Lock from msconfig/set usefirmwarepcisettings to yes on Windows-based OSes, as this will cause both GPUs to malfunction driver-wise (Windows won't load the drivers).

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING

Pros: The laptop can handle a lot at once, but not everything. I record videos for youtube using bandicam, I play minecraft, soldier front 2, terraria, technic pack, and other games and with medium settings it goes about 80+ fps on all except soldier front 2, it goes on about 40+ on normal or slightly below graphics, while recording. I can be saving a movie (movie maker XD) playing a (less power intensive) game (minecraft, terraria), while using iTunes, and uploading a video all at once no problems. The games I play are:
minecraft (100+ fps)

soldier front 2 (constant 40-50, recording 30-40 on normal graphics)

terraria (on high while not recording 80+, while recording on medium i get 80+)

technic pack(40+ high graphics, 80+ high)

slender (lower graphics and windowed even while recording I get 40+)

Scp containment breach (80+)
one button bob (OVER 9000 XD)

tactical invention (needed serious downplay on graphics and resolution, get anywhere from 30-100+ fps)

Blacklight retribution (lower graphics 50+)

Team fortress 2 (higher graphics 70+)

shotgun fun fun 2 (OVER 9000)

facade (OVER 9000)

Sumotori (4-8 lights on fullscreen 70+)

Little inferno (100+, recommended not to record, it is possible, but you only get 20 fps)

Minicraft (OVER 9000)

Scribblenauts unlimited (70+)

The sims 3 (medium graphics at around 50-100, havent tested it much)

Raceroom experience (havent tested much, its free, and it works about 60+ but I dont remember how)

Nitronic rush (80+)

blackshades (86 exactly XD never drops and never goes higher, on default graphics, even while recording)

8 bit killer (OVER 9000)

Alien swarm (70+ havent tested much, it works now though and i dont remember having to switch much graphics, its free though)

Realm of the mad Go* (recording 30+, not recording OVER 9000)

Combat arms (defaulted about 60+)

Tribes ascend (60+)

Planetside 2 (downgraded graphics a buttload 40+ stable)

Toribash (high graphics 80+)

TAG (100+)

mari0 (downgraded a little at 40+)

Enviro bear (OVER 9000)

A game where a guy flies by crapping everywhere (forgot the name, I changed it XD. pewdiepie played it, OVER 9000 FPS)

corperate property (40+)

Super crate box (OVER 9000)

iSketch (OVER 9000)

Fast typer 2 (OVER 9000)

that just shows how amazing this laptop is, and plus I use
gimp 2.8, iTunes, Mozilla, Bandicam, steam, DS3 tool,

Ive got like 30 finished (10 min+) videos at 720p-1080p movie maker videos,

Ive got like 50+ bandicam videos

Ive got 30 thumbnails and 6 channel arts using gimp

10 music from machinimasound.com with 10 notepads for copy and pasting the copyright into youtube description (as it says to do)

back to pros, this laptop has 2 graphics cards, which r ok, but there is a way to configure single graphics card and select which one u want to use, I love that

it has 3 usb ports i just realized, 1 on the left, 2 on the right. I thought it was just 2 on the ri

Cons: The keyboard is a little iffy, but gets the job done just fine with occasional mishits while gaming, meaning that you can press say shift and it wont recognize it and you will drop to your death in most games. Eventually it sets in and itll work better. I connected a dell keyboard, and a logitech mouse. The touch pad is ok, Its silent, but is a bit cheap. I also connected a logitech mic, the laptop mic sucks, as well as the webcam, but they both would get the job done for facecaming or skype or whatever. This thing is also a sweat and fingerprint magnet. My left hand goes on WASD a lot and my palm gets sweaty from the overheating on the left side, when the sweat drys you see salt from the sweat to the left of the trackpad. This can be cleaned with a slightly damp wipe. This thing does get hot but not to an extreme. The speakers also suck, I use mun2 speakers, but any form of speakers will do just fine. All of the cons can be fixed quite easily

get speakers

maybe MAYBE a faster harddrive, Ive proven its not really needed

a keyboard and mouse

a mic

cleaner

cooling pad

Like i said these things can all be easily fixed. Dont let these be deal breakers, I got it for $500 on sale for back to school. on sale its a steal, but even for $700 its a steal.

Other Thoughts: Im using this as a desktop replacement, and its amazing!!!
I recommend this to any normal- above normal gamers.

My gaming channel is BarriLogy on youtube. I hope this helped!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: 1. Battery Life
2. Screen
3. Dual GPU
4. Quad Core
5. 6GB RAM

Cons: Touchpad gets in the way of typing all of the time
CS:GO is fairly slow (40fps)
Could use more USB Ports
Runs very hot
Comes with Windows 8
Doesn't come with an SSD
The resolution is not good enough (1366x768)

Other Thoughts: I bought a 60GB SSD and then inserted a 32GB SD card into the flash reader right when I got it.
I stashed the hard drive away and installed Windows 7 64-bit. They say only to adopt a new OS when the first service pack comes out.
Long term usage can be done with a hefty external battery charger. (12000mAH would do).

I've replaced my desktop with this laptop and use a laptop cooler to chill my laptop. The APU/GPU gets very hot and becomes ineffective when idly mining bitcoins. (It eventually stops working)

I used to connect HDMI and a VGA cable to this laptop to run a dual screen setup with the laptop.

The laptop screen has the same resolution as my netbook a 10" screen.

This laptop has never crashed on me because I've switched to an SSD.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Great

Pros: Overall this is a great laptop for the price (sale price especially). It comes with enough RAM that you really dont have to worry about upgrading it Unless you have some specific needs.

Great graphic capabilities as well. I plan to do some light gaming on it when I'm out of the house. So far i've only tested Super Street Fighter 4, which at 1280x720 with moderate settings achieves 100+ FPS average.

Overall I feel it was a fantastic buy.

Cons: I have not had a chance to use the keyboard or trackpad enough to give them a fair review, but so far they are not terrible. Will update this when I've used it more.

The Harddrive as others mentioned is 5400 RPM, which is very common for mechanical laptop drives. There are some slow spots in loading a few thing, however.

Windows 8 can take some getting used to, overall it's not too bad though, and I've only run into one compatibility issue with software.

The Speakers are not the best, they do not have great range, but its hard to expect a lot out of laptop speakers. They should be fine for most tasks, but if you care even a fair bit about your audio quality, you'll probably want some external speakers.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving -1 egg because the first one I got was defective. The touch pad was very flaky, and the mouse buttons would not work at all.

Newegg RMA'd it and sent me a new one which is currently working just fine. I feel like i'll enjoy this laptop for several years to come.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost loved it

Pros: Price, Value

Cons: assembly and overall "feel" of the keyboard

Other Thoughts: Arrived with four working USB ports, 2 right usb ports died two days later, several buttons (primarily the 2 button) stick something fierce and make a VERY loud clicking sound if you shove them hard enough to get them to move. obviously some sort of manufacturing defect. Other than the problems with how the computer shipped from the factory the system runs well.

Overall the keyboard just feels cheap as well, hard to quantify but I don't care for how even the keys that work travel.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding value

Pros: -Excellent value. I got it on sale and even at its normal price it's a good deal. On sale it's a steal.

-Outstanding graphics card for the price. Most laptops in its price range have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 or an Nvidia GeForce GT 640m, which have either no or almost no video memory. The AMD Radeon HD 7670M is a mid level graphics card according to the sources I've consulted, which is great for the price you're paying.

-I've had no problems playing any games. The game I've used with the most taxing system requirements is Street Fighter X Tekken, which was released in May 2012. When I ran the game's benchmark it said my computer ran the game at a very high level and it recommend using the maximum graphics settings.

Cons: -The speakers are pretty bad, even by laptop standards. My cell phone might have better quality (no exaggeration) though it can't produce the same volume. This problem can be fixed with a cheap pair of speakers that plug into the headphone jack.

Other Thoughts: If you see it on sale, don't waste any time buying it. Highly recommended. Even at its normal price, it's a better value than many other laptops I was looking at.

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy

Pros: Cost effective, decent battery life, dedicated graphics, this thing worked perfectly out of the box and runs tf2, killing floor, and oblivion smoothly. It feels pretty solid when handled but is lighter than others I've had. Windows 8 boots up in a matter of seconds and flies compared to my desktop which is full of win7 updates and junk I've accumulated over the years. Also everything I was used to in win7 is still there, you just have to use the search function a lot. I use a simple cooler master fan pad with this thing and it barely even gets warm.

Cons: The slower hard drive is noticeable when moving files as compared to a 7200rpm one. I find that The speakers sound tin canny and shallow. Use phones.
Windows 8 start page sucks, learn to use either alt tab or windows key tab to cycle and close programs that stay open in the background, also it tries to sell you stuff through the Microsoft media store. Do yourself a favor and run your media through a third party program on the desktop. You'll only have to see the start page once.

Other Thoughts: A Steal at $500
