1 out of 5 eggsAwful experience with this laptop

Pros: Slim. Fast when it's new. Didn't get enough experience with this to elaborate any more.

Cons: My cat bit the touchscreen and broke it. With a broken touchscreen, the machine won't function.

It is understood that the damage is my fault. However, even willing to pay for the damage, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get the touchscreen fixed. Acer won't touch it, because it was refurbished by a third party. The third party is Teleplan. Per their policy, they would not fix it, even if I paid for it.

I worked with Teleplan to get an exception. They offered to pay for it for a semi-reasonable price, but the only method they would accept for payment is a bank transfer (no checks, no credit cards). When they presented information for the transfer, it wasn't enough information for my bank to actually set it up, so my bank couldn't/wouldn't send the money. Therefore, this was a dead end.

I also approached a local computer repair shop to fix it. They couldn't get a screen. After a month, I considered this a dead end as well.

The laptop has been sitting in a box for months. The only way I can use it is to hook it up to an external monitor. It is not useful as a laptop.

Overall a bad experience.

Other Thoughts: Be very careful when buying a laptop. If you can't get accidental damage insurance with the extended warranty, be prepared to buy a new laptop outright.

Also, laptops have very little nutritional value for cats.

Other Thoughts: over all is a great laptop, once upgrade to newer window. this laptop works great.

2 out of 5 eggsRather large

Pros: touch screen, sound is fairly good, picture clear, light weight

Cons: it doesnt have any software only has windows on it.

Other Thoughts: Computer shuts down once i try to log in. I get an empty screen it is not loading windows & I've had it under 2 months & use it sparsely. Luckily I purchased a 1 year service and parts warranty & I am presently attempting to call the 1-800 number.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire

Pros: 6 GB RAM makes it fast the HD is a little slow but I have had no problems - lots of storage.
Touch screen responsive. Slim light weight back lit key board and being refurbished makes it a great buy. Windows 8 took very little time to adjust to. If you know a few Windows short cuts (like Logo key + C, + D, + X, + E, + tab and + I) will help navigate through Windows 8 till you get used to the touch screen.

Cons: Windows 8 comes in standard basically home edition.
Lacks a lot of features virtual hard drive to dual boot, remote desktop, and Hyper-V.
My first Acer PC I reimaged with Windows 8 Pro. It seems Acer service is poor when you have a refurbished machine.
So getting support to get a driver for one unkown device is near impossible. Not to mention the BIOS is limited to the point were virtualization is impossible. Internet Explorer 10 can drive you nuts until you

1 out of 5 eggsPoorly Planned

Pros: Slim form-factor, excellent touch-screen, nice touch-pad, excellent keyboard and overall sleek look and feel.

Cons: Obviously, the hard drive which comes with this laptop is useless. We all buy HDDs to put into our laptops when we buy them. I have been doing it for years, and so has practically everyone else I know. This process usually involves unscrewing a bottom panel and making the swap; usually about a 5-minute process.

The only way to get to the hard drive in THIS laptop is to disassemble the entire laptop. This includes removing around 20 screws, removing the keyboard (which is EXTREMELY difficult and complicated) and removing the top cover, which is also relatively complicated. Without special tools, you will probably leave permanent marks on your new laptop in trying to accomplish this simple task.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, for this reason an otherwise excellent laptop gets zero eggs. Running this laptop with the drive it comes with is like running a Lamborghini on bicycle tires: the drive negates every bit of performance the laptop would otherwise have. In addition, like tires on a car, hard drives wear out in time and replacing them is almost a given. I have had to replace hard drives on at least 3/4 of the desktops/laptops I have owned in my life (about 15 out of 20).

Making the hard drive so thoroughly inaccessible is unforgivable, especially since the drive is physically situated against the bottom of the case and adding an access door would have been trivially easy and would have added only pennies to the manufacturing cost.

2 out of 5 eggsBelow expectations

Pros: Touchscreen, thin, keyboard

Cons: sketchy wireless adapter, WIndows 8

Other Thoughts: Not liking windows 8 and the "apps" aspect. Too much clutter. Touchpad too close to keys, inadvertant cursor movement results. Sometimes have to restart to connect to wireless.
