4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Super fast and light. I run visual studio and other high memory programs and haven't had really any issues. Durable, I take it took school everyday and haven't had any of the issues that previous reviewers have had. Can't beat the performance for the price.

Cons: The screen is a little flimsy but I don't see how this could be a problem unless you were using the laptop during turbulence or on a safari in Africa. I feel that this isn't a major issue as long as you are careful with it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so good

Pros: Extremely light, screen is okay, and relatively fast.

Cons: The screen is miserable in terms of durability. My friend picked this up the first day and when he opened it 3 pixels had gone out. Over the course of the 3 months I have had it two more went out for a total of 5. I am not even rough with this machine and handle it with extreme care especially since the pixels keep going out. It is an absolute flaw, and on top of it the overall feel is cheap.

3 out of 5 eggsAn Adequate Ultrabook

Pros: This machine is light, small, and fast. With a little work, Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit runs well on it.

Cons: Trackpad is poorly-designed, buttons especially. Aesthetics are generally poor - brushed metal finish on magnesium looks fine, but the chromed plastic hinges and trackpad buttons are very 1995. The stock Win8 + OEM bloat takes up 70+ gigs on the 128GB SSD.

Other Thoughts: This is a passable machine, but nothing fancy. If you can get a deal, it is certainly portable and fairly capable, if not fun to use.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen will crack; do not buy

Pros: Lightweight and fast when it works

Cons: The screen backing is flimsy, the screen is flush with the bezel, and the palm rest is higher than the keyboard (look at the side view detail image for an idea). The result is that it's trivial to crack the screen just by picking up the closed laptop--the screen will be in contact with the sharp corner, so light pressure can be enough to break the screen.

The manufacturer's warranty states that they cover defective parts but not accidental damage resulting from misuse. Obviously, picking up a closed laptop would not constitute misuse. When we sent in our laptop for repair, we got a new detail list for the warranty covering the same terms, _plus_ stating that cracked displays are not covered under any circumstances.

Other Thoughts: The design defect that makes it ridiculously easy to damage the screen makes this laptop one to avoid. The lack of warranty support should make anyone question buying anything from this manufacturer.
