3 out of 5 eggsBut sadly, it uses Windows 8

Pros: Boots very fast

Cons: Windows 8 - your XP office and many other apps won't work (or work properly) any more, and you'll have to deal with an OS Start page that makes no sense on a laptop or desktop. You will see the OS crash or lock up many times, like in the bad old days of Win98 edition1. Anything from clicking too fast on a Windows live email client, to connecting it to a projector, or installing a new app that doesn't say window 8, will cause the OS to crash. Then it wants to send a long useless report to microsoft. A couple of times it would not reboot. It took a battery removal to get it to start up again.

2 out of 5 eggsToo Hot When Gaming

Pros: Great Display, The Sound is Wonderful and I like the backlit keyboard. The 3D works great on many games.

Cons: Battery wont last 2 hours and even less if Gaming. Gets so hot when gaming it can burn your skin 155f

Other Thoughts: Having had two of these and now only one I can give a very good review. First I bought this to play high end games and do video editing. Overall the computer has a lot of features and works well. The bad part is that you can burn yourself on the right side if playing games for a long time. I measured the temperature while playing Crysis 3 and it reached 155f 68c Skin can be burned at 140-150 so you need to be very careful. And the second drive makes a slight clicking sound all the time. Both of the computers did this and when I called Toshiba for help they did not know what to do. They said I could return it or send the ENTIRE computer in to them. I told them what the problem and solution was but they did not listen. Also I posted three times on their website and not once did they put my review there. So when you look at their reviews it looks better than what it is.

Like I said if you are just using it for normal work it is great and the temperatures stay around 108f but for gamming or anything that requires the video card to work hard it is dangerous where the air exits on the right. And don't expect Toshibas technical support to be much help should you need specific help on this model. You will be better off trying to find your own solution.

Cons: Secondary HDD failed on the second day of operation

5 out of 5 eggsNeweggs RMA Process

Pros: Laptop is very fast. The 3d looks great. Love the new design.

Cons: The second 1tb hard drive makes a ticking noise and the BDrom didn't read dvd or cds. Returned the laptop for a new one. Still waiting after a week for the laptop to get checked out so I can get the new one shipped. Neweggs return process takes to long. 7 to 10 days is really to long to wait. I will not buy anything over $500 again from new egg.

Wish the screen was a 1

Other Thoughts: I should have purchased this laptop at a local retailer because I could have just exchanged the defective laptop for a new laptop all in the same day. Not happy with this transaction.

Other than the Newegg slow process in dealing with RMA's I love this laptop. Big time upgrade from my last Toshiba. Can't wait to get it back. Maybe another week, who know

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: Does quiet a bit for a Laptop. Seems to work very well with most games.

Cons: Constant clicking coming from the D drive which is the non Hybrid drive. Toshibas response is return it or send the ENTIRE unit in for repair. I did the first and the replacement does the same things. That drive is just not good. Not sure what others notice but it drives me crazy. I like the machine enough to buy a replacement drive. Not something I should have to do but they wont budge !!!!

Other Thoughts: Shame Toshiba does not listen to the customer. They need to replace the D drive which would fix the clicking problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop and some advice

Pros: Great bright and vivid 1080p screen. 3d Works great after installing the newer drivers. Sound is beautiful and clear far better than most laptops. I have always been a fan of the harman speaker system in Toshiba laptops. High Graphical Games run perfectly smooth so far and also tried a couple games in 3d which runs nicely. Although some games are far better than others.

Cons: This does not have a subwoofer like the older Toshiba's so you will not get the crazy base. But the sound does seem clearer than the older Toshiba.

Other Thoughts: be sure to visit 3dvisionlive and download the newest drivers. Firefox seems to be better at running the 3d videos for Youtube and others that are out there. Explorer and chrome did not do the job properly. Do not download skype for Windows 8! Download the Windows 7 Version. Otherwise you can't share screens and if another application ever tries to use the mic it will totally mute your skype. Also less options.

4 out of 5 eggsToshiba Qosmio X875-Q7390

Pros: This is a nice gaming laptop. The 3D looks really good. Plays all my games on Very High to High. Except for Crisis 3. That game is a beast of a game for any computer. Boots fast.

Cons: After a day or so, the hard drive started to fail. The Bluray Rom makes a noise every 5 minutes until it stop working completly. I sent the Laptop back (RMA). Newegg will be sending a replacement.

Crisis 3 needs to be set on low to medium setting to stay above 30fps.

Wish it had the 18.4" screen like the Q895.

Other Thoughts: Other than the hardware issues. The laptop performs great. This my second Qosimo laptop. Can't wait to get my Laptop back from RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: Overall an excellent laptop. Not too heavy for top of the line desktop replacement with very good 120Hz LCD. The keyboard is also very good. The touchpad is a little finicky but it could be just me (I am not used to using touch pads). Fortunately touchpad can be disabled with a hot key if you are using a mouse/trackball. Comes with two 1TB hard drives but I ripped out one of them immediately and replaced it with a 512GB SSD. You can open the HD/SSD cover without voiding any warranties and in fact Toshiba support even has a Youtube video on how to open the cover on Qosmio laptops which was very helpful. It does NOT use the dreaded NVidia Optimus and switching between 3D and 2D apps is instant (in fact I am not sure if it uses the Intel integrated graphics at all as it refused to install drivers for them). I would have preferred 680M GFX (it comes with 670M which is about 30% slower) but it is still very good. 670M is about equivalent to GTX280 which was state of the art on the desktop about 5yrs ago. Overall laptop does not run too hot and has a solid build.

Cons: No 5GHz wireless support (only 2.4GHz) so you are looking at around 144Mbs max wireless instead of 300Mbs but as a desktop replacement this should be wired with gigabit Ethernet anyway.

Other Thoughts: Comes with Windows 8 which Microsoft made VERY difficult to get rid of. Fortunately it is possible but be prepared for a frustrating evening. Toshiba does not list Win7 drivers for this laptop but all the drivers from the Windows 7 version of this laptop (Q7290) work so just get them manually from Toshiba web site (there are about 20 drivers/utilities total that need installing). You do not get a free Windows 7 downgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Non-Custom Gaming PC

Pros: Build Quality
Lighted Keyboard
No Annoying Media Keys on the side
Bright Screen
3rd Gen i7
Good sound
Blu-ray
Storage size

Cons: No SSD main Drive
Lots of bloatware
Windows 8? (not really a con, windows 8 is growing on me but I still like windows 7 better
No Touch Screen
only 5400 RPM main HDD

Other Thoughts: This si the Second Qosmio I have owned, I had a 2010 model X505-Q875 which lasted without issues for 3 years before things started acting up. The 17 inch screen is crisp, responsive and bright. The machine is responsive and powerful but the lack of a main drive SSD really bottlenecks the performance. It does get a little warm when running full bore, but it's nothing too bad for a gaming laptop. The speakers produce great sound for laptop onboard speakers.

All in all I like the feel of the keys and the build quality impresses me from such a volume manufacturer. With this second experience I will probably stick with the Qosmio line for my non-custom gaming needs.

Also I have swapped the main drive out with a 256GB Samsung SSD and now this thing flies. The most negative thing I can find about this machine is the 5400RPM Main Hard Drive (the hybrid helps boot time but that's it. I lost 750GB of storage by swapping the main 1TB drive for the SSD but I don't regret it for a second.
