1 out of 5 eggsShame on Toshiba and Microsoft

Pros: It's not a "complete" scam.

Cons: Comes with Windows 8. Can't downgrade to Windows 7 without messing with multiple BIOS settings, deleting all partitions that are incompatible for Windows 7 to format/install to (using gparted) and of course, voiding the entire laptop's warranty by simply removing Windows 8.

Drivers from Toshiba corrupt the system, parasitically the drivers that install Tvalz_0.sys. Windows 7 will auto boot to Startup Repair mode and remove all the drivers without warning. Then you have to start over in the Device Manager.
After hours of hair pulling and struggling, I finally got all drivers EXCEPT display driver to install without the system going corrupt.
Called Toshiba, they put you on hold and hang up for you the first few times when you describe the issue. When you do get a hold of someone, they remote to your system via LogMeIn Rescue, run some pointless commands in cmd, then go on a 10 to 15 min sales pitch trying to make you pay anywhere from $100 to $200 for a "fix". Well, there is no fix and they know it. They don't care. They just want to ride the Windows 8 bandwagon that Microsoft is the only one on. Well the bandwagon is headed for the clif so enjoy the ride Toshiba, you miserable failures.

Other Thoughts: You can only install drivers other than the Display Adapter.
If you download the display driver, Windows 7 will find it incompatible. The driver is AMD Radeon HD 7420G, just like in this product's description.
If you try adding it from the C7141364 inf file, Windows 7 will say it found the driver software but encountered an error while attempting to install it. "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows".

Toshiba and Microsoft can go to you-no-where. Never buying another Toshiba product and I'm really considering switching back to Mac OS given the direction MS is headed.

2 out of 5 eggsmissing/damaged firmware, windows 8

Pros: It looks nice, thats about it

Cons: drivers on laptop damaged, some outright missing
windows 8 is terrible, forces you to use it
trying to install win 7 will NOT WORK unless you completely wipe the hard drive
integrated graphics seems to not even support 90s computer games with 3d graphics

4 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby...

Pros: Purchased this laptop for a friend. It is pretty snappy and the screen is wonderful. Video looks phenominal. Small-time games look good (games on FB and various game sites), but have yet to put it through it's paces with a AAA game (ie- Borderlands, Fallout, ect..). Wireless is strong, battery life also lasts for a good 5 hours. They keyboard is your standard laptop fare, but it works, which is all I really expect out of a keyboard. Touch/Mouse pad is very responsive, left & right clicks feel solid, but there is no scroll to the right like most laptops.

Specs are ok (I say just ok due to no dedicated graphics).

Cons: 1). No scroll on the touch-pad. It's not a deal breaker, but it's definitely annoying sometimes to have to click the scroll buttons in the browser.
2). DVD drive is loud.

3). Comes with Windows 8. It's horrendous. Finding things that took 2 seconds in Win7 takes forever to find. The whole Metro/Tile setup feels clunky, and as stated, makes it hard to locate things.
I'm sure if me and my friend buckled down and really learned the ins & outs and little tricks, it wouldn't be so bad, but it shouldn't be like that. If it's as easy to use and intuitive as they would like us to believe, you wouldn't be reading these complaints.
In the end, I took Win8 off and put Win7 on it. Now it's REALLY great.

All in all, a good laptop. With just 2 cons DIRECTLY related to the hardware itself, that's not bad. Con #3 isn't the laptop's fault, and easily remedied by throwing the OS of your choice on it. Just be prepared to do a bit of driver hunting.

Other Thoughts: None really. It's just a good laptop for the pricepoint it's at.

5 out of 5 eggsGift For My Wife

Pros: Everything we were looking for at a reasonable price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: When I orderd this for my wife I went ahead and ordered the 16GB of RAM to max out it out. It's been working great for about six months now and she's still very pleased with it.
