Can theOS be Win7 rather than Win8?

Yes and no... It comes with Win8, but you can uninstall it and reinstall Win7 on it, just be sure to have a back up of drivers for the computer that are compatible with Win7. If you don't want to deal with all that, you could take it to a friend who's computer savvy or to a store and pay them to do it for you.

Its a laptop, its big and built to do the same stuff as a desktop. I play intense games on it (like call of duty) and it handles it very well. GET A  COOLING PAD, it likes to run hot

I take it you are wanting to go higher than the 16Gb of memory you have right? You would be best stay with what they optimized it at. Which is a SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Module. Need to note here that if you trying to get to the max 32 Gb on ram you will need to partially need to take apart the computer to get to where the second rack is for the ram, its hidden inside the case. For the one that is exposed and readily accessible on the bottom to get to the ram, you can get that one to a max of 16 GB They got 4 4 gb sticks of ram in the computer right now. I would change those to 4gb sticks in the assess panel on the bottom and put two 8 Gb sticks in.. Then with a total of 16 there and 8 in the other you are at 24 GB Ram. better than nothing. Then figure out where the slots are located within the computer that hold the other two slots. Change them to the 8 GB sticks and there you go you have 32 GB of Ram now!!

I don't know, My battery life is around 1hr with basic usage, Long Life pushes it to 90min maybe 105min.

My advice, bring a generator along with you....
