5 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop with Great Features

Pros: This Toshiba Satellite is a very nice notebook. It has USB 3.0, plenty of USB 2.0, a "quad core" processor (based on AMD's definition of quad core), 6 gigs of RAM that can be upgraded to 16 gigs of RAM and of course Radeon Integrated Graphics (the HD 8400).

This is not a powerhouse gaming rig. It is an aggressively priced mid range home office or student notebook that has a nice finish, bright screen, and enough horse power and memory to get through 99% of all tasks. Facebook, MS Office, Email, Web browsing, Research, multi-tasking, numerous tabs open in Chrome or IE, even some older titles of games and newer titles with the graphic options reduced - this system is all about value and that is what it represents.

We bought this computer "refurbished" and it came well packaged, protected, and looked like new. Not a mark on it anywhere. It boots fast (even with a mechanical hard drive), has plenty of storage, and an adequate screen and adequate speakers.

Cons: The screen has a very limited viewing angle. You basically need to be dead on with the screen and have it tilted ever so slightly to get the perfect viewing angle on it. Any deviation from this causes the top of the screen to look darker than the bottom or vice versa. The color gamut is pretty bad - still a panel capable of perfect Adobe color gamut replication is not going to be found on a 300 - 400 dollar laptop.

Mechanical hard drive is meh. If I were buying this to keep I would trash the mechanical drive for a 250 gig SSD and call it a day. It will make the computer feel silly fast and also reduces the possibility of lost information and makes the hard drive basically impact proof.

I would also invest in an 8 gig RAM kit as soon as I could afford it and invest in the most aggressively timed DDR 3 Laptop kit I could find. The HD 8xxx tends to respond very well to increased RAM timings so that would also squeeze more power and value out of the system.

If your not used to chiclet keyboards then the keyboard on this laptop will take some getting used to. As chiclets go these keys feel a tad on the mushy side, but for typing and occasional gaming it will get the job done.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop for a student or anyone else looking for a well equipped and modern laptop for cheap. The system came out of the box looking and smelling like new. Not a mark, scratch, or defect to be found anywhere on the system.

I picked this system up on sale for 329.99 with 20% off in a coupon code that I got in an email. I purchased this PC for 299.99 shipped. For that price it was a screaming deal. Seriously cannot be beat at that low of a price. Even for 329 it was a good deal. I would not pay more this computer than that. Anything over 330 and the value starts to go away compared to other systems that can be found including some brand new systems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop!

Pros: Good delivery, fast(er) processor, memory expandable to 16 GB, bigger HDD.

Cons: Some bloatware, but easily removed. One dead pixel, but can only be seen when screen is black. (That's probably why it's a refurb.)

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a netbook, which was good for work. However, I wanted a faster processor with bigger HDD, bigger screen and more memory. I wasn't sure about Windows 8 at first and was about to install Ubuntu for dual boot, After a few tweaks and installing StartMenu8 I actual like Win 8! This is a great laptop for the money!
