5 out of 5 eggsGreat mid range gaming laptop

Pros: Very fast i7-4700MQ CPU that hits 3.4GHz in turbo boost, not to shabby for a mobile chip. 256GB SSD for the main drive makes the everything super fast, blistering boot times! Highly capable GTX 770M 3GB GDDR5 GPU. It will play any game out there on ultra/high to high/med settings at 1080p. 16GB of RAM out of the box. Very nice screen with decently wide viewing angles. Extra 2.5" HDD bay for storage expansion & 2 of the RAM slots are accessible so you can take this up to 24GB of RAM if you wanted to. Most importantly it has pretty good cooling, paired with a decent laptop cooler you can ever set small OCs on it!

Cons: The KB & track pad are not the best for gaming. A standalone KB & M is a must for gaming on this! The laptop exhausts on the right side instead of the back. Not a ton of bloat-ware pre-installed but more than necessary.

Other Thoughts: I see a few reviews deducting eggs because of Win8.1 being the installed OS & I'm not sure why. Win8.1 is a terrible OS but you can upgrade to Win10 for free & I highly recommend doing that ASAP. Just remeber though once you have upgraded you can no longer do a factory refresh, it will do a clean install of Win10 if attempted.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST!! Great Performer

Pros: Super Fast SSD Built In
Boots up to desktop in less than 8-seconds
Super Graphics

Cons: Windows 8.1
Need to offer Windows 7 Pro

Other Thoughts: I used Classic Shell to customize my start menu and what a difference it has made. This machine is very fast and and well built. It deserves 5 eggs!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Would have given this 5 stars, but came preloaded with Windows 8 which is a horrible OS and particularly unsuited to a laptop without touchscreen. Was a bit of a challenge to get Windows 7 Ultimate, but now that's done it an ideal high-end laptop. Fast with I7, SSD, lots of RAM and Nvidia graphics.

Cons: As previously mentioned, Windows 8 is a non starter. I carefully made sure prior to purchase that Windows 7 drivers were available.

Those darned 'Intel Inside' stickers are hard to remove. I don't do free advertisement.

2 out of 5 eggsInitial Feedback

Pros: Awesome hardware for a laptop. The 17.3" screen looks great. The 256GB SSD is configured as the main C drive and that as most shoppers on this site already know, makes it fly. The built in Blu-Ray writer is a benefit to those of us who like to back up certain files to non-magnetic media.

Cons: Two small worries to start with:
1. Audio out port has problems when playing video from the web. CD-s are just fine and I am feeding the audio in to 2.0 Cerwin-Vega amplified speakers. This will be a set p file problem somewhere
2. The machine has two graphics chips?!? The NVidia GTX770M and an on board Intel HD Graphics 4600. What is that about?
But now the big problem - Windows 8.1. What a disaster. And this laptop is the perfect computer to not put it on.The screen is not a touch screen so one has to laugh when the "tap this window" messages pop up. And who on this green earth wants to run any applet, oh say the calculator, at full screen? This laptop would be rated at 4 stars running Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: The Windows 8 / 8.1 GUI may make a lot of sense on 4" screen smartphone. It makes some sense on my 10" screen Asus Transformer. It makes no sense on a 17.3" screen laptop or anything larger. Windows 8 continuing the Windows Me and Vista tradition of getting every other operating system mostly - completely wrong.
