5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Love the specs and the fact I could get Windows 7 Professional, great for small business applications

Cons: Only wish the screen was a bit larger

5 out of 5 eggsNot too many good 13.3" laptops anymore

Pros: At a little less than $800 this is a great old school 13.3" laptop with Windows 7 Pro and a DVD drive. It's a physically light weight machine loaded with features such as Giga Lan, Wifi, Bluetooth, SDXC compat card reader, 3x USB 3.0 ports and an express card slot. The TPM chip and fingerprint reader was also an essential feature for password security.

The Intel i5-4200M clocked at 2.5Ghz + 8gb of memory is fast enough on a HD 4600 chipset that's easily capable of Hardware 1080p video and Full HD Youtube playback. Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver CS4 for light web development + office work is a breeze.

The thing also runs pretty quietly and I can only hear it running hot when I ran a benchmark on it.

Cons: I'm unable to get Win7 64bit OEM DVD to see the harddrive under Sata in UEFI mode (for a clean install). It's working in compat SATA which is fine with a Harddrive, but has been a slight slow down when I swapped the it out with an SSD.

It's missing a touch screen.

I also really wish the AC adapter plug was on the back and not the side (or at least it should've come with a 90 degree angled plug)

Other Thoughts: Not too many manufactures build a good 13.3" laptop anymore and this was the perfect balance of features, size and portability. I also absolutely needed a fingerprint reader to secure my passwords as I literally have a list of hundreds for all the servers and web sites I maintain and didn't want to rely solely on my web browser. This was the only Laptop in it's price range to have one.

One grouch (which isn't the laptops fault) is that the new Microsoft DRM policy sucks. This didn't come with a Win7 COA sticker and ended up needing to call Microsoft support just to do a clean install. I guess it's OK with Win8 but for Win7 Pro downgrade rights it was a pain.

a few numbers...

Windows experience index was:
CPU 7.2
RAM 7.2
AERO 5.3
GAME 6.5
HDD 7.2 (upgraded with a Plextor M5 pro)

I was also amazed that the meager internal HD 4600 even ran 3Dmark:

Ice Storm 40226
Cloud Gate 4829
Sky Diver 2717
Fire Strike 559

CPU temps maxed at about 81 Celsius under benchmark at 23 watts.

Other than the few grouches I have, this was perfect and will be my work horse for the next 3 or 4 years.
