Pros: Great design, great performance, excellent screen.

Cons: Worst technical support I’ve ever encountered. The technicians were not only technically inept (like trying to explain a hardware issue to my mother), but they were also severely deficient at the English language.

Asus altered audio driver is problematic; Computer wouldn’t turn on in battery mode.

Other Thoughts: Despite the problems and the fact I have to RMA it, I’d probably be more understanding if the support wasn’t so poor and apathetic.

Pros: ASUS DVD player works better then MCE. Has surround sound too.

Cons: Seems this thing was kinda thrown together and shipped. The harddrives are formatted in FAT32. Huh? With XP? I don't get it. MCE doesn't work properly in FAT32. I reformatted the second drive to NTFS and it now stores TV shows.

Other Thoughts: This is the first computer I didn't build. For as much as I paid for this, I'm kinda disappionted.

5 out of 5 eggsRead Delfire's Review

Pros: Read Delfire's Review. It is a beautiful Laptop.

Cons: Read Delfire's Review. In addition I get that it has all the stuff, but it still weighs a ton, i doubt much can be done about that, but it weighs a ton. The mouse buttons - not crazy about them. got a bluetooth mouse.

Other Thoughts: Paid a lot more the Delfire did - had it nearly a year. Have never done anything about all the useless asus stuff. but it's been rock solid.

5 out of 5 eggsNo amount of praise will do this laptop justice, but I'll try.

Pros: 1. Absolutely stunning design, clear screen (don't let those WSXGA people get to you), one of the best looking laptops on the market right now if you like a sleek look. The black finish & material used for construction around the whole laptop makes the user feel very expensive and elite.
2. The weight is just right as a media-centric laptop, considering the onboard components, a VERY good desktop replacement for the average ~ above average user.
3. ASUS does not disappoint with special laptop features & add-on components - TV Tuner Card, Firewire, TV-Out, SPDIF-In & etc.
4. Price. The cost of this machine at the time I bought was around $1600. With 2 years of manufacturer's global warranty, x1600 mobility radeon, 1G RAM, I see no problem with this monetary equation.
5. It's a media-center-phile's dream. I watch a sh!tload of movies, listen to music constantly (surround sound included), I can't ask for anything more.

Cons: Of course, no laptop is perfect. I'm going to list the cons that most people would find with this laptop.

1. Not enough usb ports - it comes with only 3, I have around 6 different usb-powered devices ranging from wireless mouse to external hard drives. Guess I'll just get a hub - no biggie if the only usb devices you have is a camera and a thumbdrive lol.
2. ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 - if you are an UBER-gamer with the LATEST games wanting to get 70+ fps on Oblivion (LoL), I suggest you look at ASUS's gaming laptops (also on newegg and it's the laptop with the most reviews). However, I don't game as much on newer games, but this machine with 256MB graphics can satisfy more than my needs for San Andreas (which I've been putting off for quite some times), and great games that are only a year or two old. And of course, there's the Linux having bad ATI drivers - I'll deal with it.
3. Becareful of fingerprints.
4. Internal Operating System and Software (See Other Thoughts).

Other Thoughts: I'm a DIE HARD windows tweaker, when I first got this laptop, this is what I did: WIPE, Make nLite From XP Pro (I'm not ready for vista, and I'm not a big fan of Media Center Edition that it comes with), Partition into NTFS and divide, install, researched the useless ASUS processes & software add-ons that clog the lower right corner. Installed essential drivers for smooth operation. Bought another piece of RAM from newegg to boost this into 2G.

So if you had no idea what nLite, partitioning, msconfig, or services.msc means, then it's best you ignore me lol. Get this laptop, whether or not you are a computer tweaker like me.

And oh yeah, my company once bought me a Macbook Pro (x1600 mobility radeon 128MB instead of 256MB), and it warms my heart to say that this is more than $900 cheaper, looks more elegant in design, and have more features.
I have nothing against Apple, if they would stop selling their technology as an expensive religion, I would buy one. In the meanwhile, go AS

5 out of 5 eggsMy Mistake

Pros: Quality Construction, Beautiful screen, decent price.

Cons: Poor technical support, driver issues on delivery

Other Thoughts: MY MISTAKE, ignore my complaint below. It turns out that my game has a known issue with the Realtek HD driver.
Although Realtek is not known for great drivers, it is WHQL certified so I can’t blame anyone but the game developer. The Asus W2 is a well constructed, powerful notebook, with good battery life and excellent construction. My only standing complaint is the horrible technical support. The notebook required a lot of patching and updating before it worked right, but that’s what happens when you buy a XP notebook in May of 2007.

3 out of 5 eggsBSD & Driver Issues

Pros: Quality Construction, Beautiful screen, decent price.

Cons: Crashing & poor technical support.

Other Thoughts: It wouldn’t play a DVD, seemed to lag and get confused when I went to play an MP3 (eventually worked). But when I loaded a game I ran into real problems. The game installed ok (EVE Online), but whenever the action heated up the system blue screened so badly that even the Microsoft “Error Report” was corrupted!

Technical support was total junk. The usual, “guy who barely speaks English & knows less than I do about computers and software”

I went to update the drivers, but had problems. Asus “Live Update” didn’t work. The standard ATI drivers wouldn’t load, telling me “No compatible hardware”. At this point if I could return it I would.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the price

Pros: Excellent price for the features included. Newegg double boxed it so shipping was very secure (I upgraded to Fedex Express shipping because UPS would have damaged it). The sound is fantastic for a laptop. It comes with lots of software including Norton Virus Suite. I am very impressed with the quality and speed of this laptop.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsNice, but way too short on features

Pros: Very sexy design. Subwoofer above par. Excellent brightness in display. TV option for low price. Large hard drive.

Cons: This laptop comes with far too many missing features. First, it should have a higher end video and much higher resolution screen even without the video. It should have a larger battery option. And finally the remote should be bluetooth rather than IR. With those issues, mine is getting returned to the place of purchase.

Other Thoughts: Asus usually does good. They missed the mark on this one though.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: I'm a newbie to owning a laptop, because I've always found them to be too slow and expensive, HDs are like molasses. I've always built my own desktops. There wasn't an an easy way to build your own laptop, so I broke down and bought one (if someone knows otherwise, please tell me). This machine really pleases me. I think I'm in love with this machine...wait that's so wrong... Anyway, I've always purchased ASUS motherboards after being burned by the others. I was leary of buying any laptop, until I found out that ASUS make barebones for branded names like HP,Apple and IBM Stinkpad, who then take them and flesh them out. One thing that peeves me off to no end is a bad keyboard. My desktop sports an IBM PS/2 keyboard and I have literaly thrown it against my cat (sorry PETA), and it comes back and makes me feel like I am George Castanza incarnate. Anyway to finish this, I love this machine. I wish it has a better video card, but it is what it is..

Cons: price. This is twice what I would pay for in a desktop build of an ultamite kiler machine. But then, I am mobile and I'm liking it. Battery does not last long, two to three hours max. But then if I can stay awake longer than that at a sitting, then I'm breaking even.

Other Thoughts: If you have the money, buy it. If not, ASUS have others. Make sure it has an i945PM chipset. CPU can be upgraded to a meron (Core 2 Duo) 64-bit.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Amazing design, hardware and portability. Screen is extremely bright and the touchpad is very accurate. Everything about the laptop itself is cutting edge.

Cons: It costs 2400 dollars and has some wierd issue with the power button.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is amazingly well built and has the most beautiful casing i have ever seen on a laptop. It runs faster than my home pc which is only a few months out of date and plays games very well. However, its price is the most ridiclious thing about it. I was expecting something that would make it worth over 2300 bucks (after being on the market for as long as it has) but its not not there. You can get a toshiba that doesnt look as cool that does all the same stuff for 1600 bucks.
