5 out of 5 eggsExcellent notebook

Pros: An excellent notebook that's loaded for the price. Screen is good but not great when it comes to viewing angles. Minimal bloatware as compared to other brands (Dell).

Cons: The screen as noted earlier.
The touchpad does take a bit getting used to. Learn the doubletap quick or just use the included mouse.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: What a laptop, this little baby can load XP Media Center quick and run smooth just like my gaming Desktop. Although I have not tried playing any gamings on it, but you can run WinDVD8 MSNmessenger Internet Explorer and Gimp at the same time with out any slow downs. Built in mic and webcam is sweet two, though you need to adjust the web cam to get good picture. Intel Pro Wireless works really well, I can get excellent signal from the second floor of the house which is very useful. LCD screen is good not great, although I used to my 19" DVI LCD 1440x900 screen. Also the DVD drive is Lightscribe capable apparently.

Cons: The pre-installed software that came with the laptop are out dated and unnecessary, so uninstalling them is a hassle. (Note: make sure what the app does before uninstalling) Media Center has problems with the video card so it doesn't work at first, probably need to install an other driver.

Other Thoughts: The bag that comes with it is nice and the mouse is tiny so I guess it's useful for on the road. The tough pad needed to get adjust for sensitivity for my taste, default settings was not right at all I think. Overall Great buy.

5 out of 5 eggspleased

Pros: Fast processor, nice video card, built in microphone and camera are cool. Played Call of Duty 2 at 1440x900 and it ran great. I was pretty impressed.

Cons: Slow hard drive. 2 sticks of 512mb ram, means its hard to upgrade. Not the most solidly built laptop. Don't get me wrong, its not a piece of junk, but it is not meant to be thrown around. Handle with care. Mouse pad is annoying, hard to push buttons and goofy scroll bar.

Other Thoughts: So far I have been very happy with this machine. Many people have complained about the screen, it does have limited viewing angles, but the resolution is high and picture is excellent. The screen is just fine. This laptop may have some flaws, but if you are able to get past those, then this is quite a computer.

5 out of 5 eggsNice for the price

Pros: Worked well right out of the box. Not sure that I need a built-in camera/microphone, but the kids get a kick out of it. Was looking to upgrade the desktop but got this instead, and I am happy with my choice. I play WOW on it and it works great. Very quiet fan, but....

Cons: The heat that the fan blow out the right side can keep your coffee warm, but don't put a soda there. The touch pad is a bit annoying and the viewing angles are not the greatest, however it is a laptop. I just use the mouse it came with.

Other Thoughts: My windows keeps trying to update, but for some reason it doesn't take. Ordered Vista and plan on doing a fresh install.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bargain

Pros: Wow, what a great notebook! I was looking for something to take to college and this fits the bill perfectly. Very fast, tons of features, small, all I need in a notebook. Definitely one of the best bargains I have come across, similar notebooks will run you $1500+ and even some of those won't have the features the Asus has.

Cons: Acouple of things could be better though. The battery life is around 2 hours, 3 hours at max, screen does have some viewing issues but nothing major, out of the box the notebook comes with quite a bit of bloatware (76 processes on startup, ouch!), DVD drive likes to stick so you have to kinda yank on it to get it out all the way and the button is really weird, it will take some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: A lot of the other reviews mention the touchpad issue. I didn't find it as bad as I thought it would be. The pad isn't recessed so it makes it kind of awkward, but after awhile I got used to it, plus if you don't like it you can use the mouse they include. The buttons on the pad are connected and it makes clicking kinda awkward but again, it just takes getting used to.
The first thing I did when I got the notebook was the NTFS conversion and made the 2 partions on the hard drive (Don't know why they did this) into one. I thought about doing a fresh install of XP but figured I would lose a lot of the features/drivers and such so I just kept what was on there and did a lot of tinkering in msconfig to limit the number of programs in startup. I also upped the ram from 1gig to 2 so that each core would get a gig, seems to preform better in SuperPI and some other benchmark programs.
Overall an excellent notebook and a great deal!!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Machine

Pros: Really fast right out of the box. Bought 2 G's of ram from New Egg also, popped it in, no problem at all. Installed and play some CS with no problem. This comp destroys the Latitude D820 (schools comp) I have been using. Blue tooth and Infared capable. Also has an SD memory card slot.

Cons: Some bloat ware (worthless software that came with the comp) although some of it is nice. Yes the mouse pad is a horrible design, but spend another 40$ and get a blue tooth mouse, and delete the junk software, not difficult. Also had to reformat the HD, not hard, click and go to the bathroom, come back and its done...

Other Thoughts: I had been looking for a new laptop, searched on Dell.com, compared the same system using the "customize feature" on Dell.com and compared prices, a Dell woulda costed me an additional 500 dollars before taxes!!! about 100 additional for tax. By far the best comp I have ever owned!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value and Performance

Pros: Great size and weight and looks great. Also has a good number of features. Amazing discrete graphics for less than most other gaming machines.

Cons: Touch pad is terrible. A lot of the bundled software is annoying, but easily removable and bearable.

The FAT32 partitions also are a pain, but it can easily be converted (using Command Line or the utility that come with the laptop).

Other Thoughts: This is going with me to college and I'm more than happy with the machine. No laptop is perfect, but this one is a steal for the price (especially on Newegg...it runs for around xxxx USD on other sites).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop for the Price

Pros: Light and FAST.

Cons: The side air vent is on the right side. (Using an external mouse can get a little warm after a while)

Other Thoughts: The users that have complained about the display don't understand that this is a laptop display, not a high-powered desktop display. The display is perfectly clear and crisp.

3 out of 5 eggsCase not great but laptop OK

Pros: Good price for what you get.

Cons: Case easily scratched and I am not rough by any means. I do not like the touch pad. If you are not all the way to one side, it does not click right.

Other Thoughts: Asus Update locks up computer ever time.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Good product
-Good Newegg services
-More than decent video when using Skype
-Pleasant to watch DVD movie on this laptop
-nice to have 4mb of CPU L2 cache

Cons: I wish ASUS selling this laptop with 2G of memory instead of 1G with the same price. With 1G, each core gets only 512mb.
