better than expected
- Pros: ultra-portable, sleek, classy, different. keyboard has great tactile response, display is excellent and very thin. built in web cam is nice. cpu speed seams fast enough although i do not have virus sw operating yet. quality, fit and finish top notch. the packaging makes one feel special ;-)
- Cons: comes with vista only. 1.5G of ram is barely enough for what i do, but will upgrade later. the hdd is slow. but i plan to upgrade to something faster later. no built-in mobile card, but 1/2 express card options are on the market, verizon, etc. no led keyboard light (like lenovo.)
- Other Thoughts: like the reviewer mentioned, i wanted XP so I had my IT person do the switch. I believe the XP drivers were quirky and eventually wiped out the OS during the MS online upgrade-i have no idea why. so i used the supplied recovery disk and vista business was reinstalled with all the drivers. i really runs nice, although i do not have virus running yet which seems to eat cpu cycles. i got the unit to work within my company domain without a hitch, installed office 03 and works great. i bought this because lenovo kept delaying my X60 tablet order. this guy is light, sleek and classy looking. i like cutting edge hardware, but still skeptical of vista so i will continue to use it for take home work, light browsing and such. i believe asus is becoming a force that sony and lenovo should worry about. although service has yet to be tested. hope this helps since there is little reviews on the product. thanks to the previous reviewer.
Ultra Elegant
- Pros: Very portable, elegant and stylish, long battery life, good responsive keyboard.
Comes with two different sized batteries.
Its biggest plus besides its ultraportability is the very bright and legible screen.
Quality is superb. I can tell that this little machine is going to last me a long long time.
- Cons: Vista runs too slow on it. I installed XP PRO and performace is acceptable now. Perhaps with a SSD and a slightly better processor it would be fine for Vista. The right side shift key is very poorly placed, making for some ackward typing.
No manual was included, only a quick start guide, and the external CD/DVD drive is also not included (strange since the Nero CD was there).
- Other Thoughts: Manufacturers need to seriously consider what software to bundle on slow performing laptops. This unit came with a lot of startup programs such as antivirus, etc that really slowed down Vista even more. If you buy this laptop take a look at all the software it comes with and consider removing some of it if you are not going to clean install Win XP.
