great tablet
- Pros: fast processor
2GB of RAM light weight convertible tablet
- Cons: non yet
- Other Thoughts: this is the 3rd tablet pc i have owned and it is by far the best. i compared this model with the Toshiba M400 and this model is the best.
Excellent Tablet for College
- Pros: As the title suggest, I bought this tablet for college. I chose the more expensive of the 2 versions for its larger hard drive, extra memory, and included Vista operating system. I have been using it for about a month in my classes. The tablet operation works very as advertised, when you rotate the screen the display switches to portrait mode. Writing on the screen feels natural, the Wacom digitizer screen tracks all of my pen movements precisely. The laptop keyboard is snappy, and the touch pad seems to have some kind of coating on it so that your fingers don't stick. Fingerprint reader lets you log into windows. Battery life is about 2 hours on "Max performance", and almost 3 hours on "Battery Saver". ASUS offers a free comprehensive 1 year warranty.
- Cons: The power brick occasionally makes a quiet high pitched noise. If you do not have something hard underneath in laptop mode (using it on cloth) the bottom can get hot to the touch. Speakers sound a bit tinny, but what laptop speakers don't? Sometimes when returning from sleep or hibernation, the fingerprint reader does not work.
- Other Thoughts: In tablet mode, bhot air vents from the computer. Screen hinge is very snappy, does not feel cheap. Included bag and laptop wallet are high quality. This computer is great for college, if you can afford it. I scan all of my textbooks so I only have to bring my tablet to class.
Awesome Tablet
- Pros: I've heard a lot of stories about Vista being really bad, so I was crossing my fingers when I got this tablet... but I've got to say this has got to be one of the coolest computers I've come around. The tablet functions work marvelously. The battery life is exceptional, and my fingerprint reader works just fine. My classmates who own tablets as well have been glaring at me because this tablet's better than theirs in just about every category.
- Cons: Overheating. It's not a huge problem (no where as severe as the HPs) until you've had the tablet running for over 2 hours on AC power and then you unplug it and rest it on your lap. Warning: your left leg WILL feel hot. However as long as you activate the tablet and hold it vertically, the heat vents away from you, leaving your arms cool to the touch.
I would have liked ASUS not to have Norton Internet Security trial pre-installed. It took all of 6 minutes to uninstall (including clicking), but we all know Norton's too much trouble for what it's worth.
- Other Thoughts: Well, I've done my research before buying this tablet. I've compared Toshiba (I will never buy one... too many factory recalls), HP (too much bloatware and overheating problems), Gateway (don't even bother), and Fujitsu (eh... bland design). ASUS has been catching my eye for quite some time now. I held out from buying their cheaper model, which cost about the same as this one about 6 months ago. I made the right decision to do so.
