5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Tablet for College

Pros: As the title suggest, I bought this tablet for college. I chose the more expensive of the 2 versions for its larger hard drive, extra memory, and included Vista operating system. I have been using it for about a month in my classes. The tablet operation works very as advertised, when you rotate the screen the display switches to portrait mode. Writing on the screen feels natural, the Wacom digitizer screen tracks all of my pen movements precisely. The laptop keyboard is snappy, and the touch pad seems to have some kind of coating on it so that your fingers don't stick. Fingerprint reader lets you log into windows. Battery life is about 2 hours on "Max performance", and almost 3 hours on "Battery Saver". ASUS offers a free comprehensive 1 year warranty.

Cons: The power brick occasionally makes a quiet high pitched noise. If you do not have something hard underneath in laptop mode (using it on cloth) the bottom can get hot to the touch. Speakers sound a bit tinny, but what laptop speakers don't? Sometimes when returning from sleep or hibernation, the fingerprint reader does not work.

Other Thoughts: In tablet mode, bhot air vents from the computer. Screen hinge is very snappy, does not feel cheap. Included bag and laptop wallet are high quality. This computer is great for college, if you can afford it. I scan all of my textbooks so I only have to bring my tablet to class.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Tablet

Pros: I've heard a lot of stories about Vista being really bad, so I was crossing my fingers when I got this tablet... but I've got to say this has got to be one of the coolest computers I've come around. The tablet functions work marvelously. The battery life is exceptional, and my fingerprint reader works just fine. My classmates who own tablets as well have been glaring at me because this tablet's better than theirs in just about every category.

Cons: Overheating. It's not a huge problem (no where as severe as the HPs) until you've had the tablet running for over 2 hours on AC power and then you unplug it and rest it on your lap. Warning: your left leg WILL feel hot. However as long as you activate the tablet and hold it vertically, the heat vents away from you, leaving your arms cool to the touch.

I would have liked ASUS not to have Norton Internet Security trial pre-installed. It took all of 6 minutes to uninstall (including clicking), but we all know Norton's too much trouble for what it's worth.

Other Thoughts: Well, I've done my research before buying this tablet. I've compared Toshiba (I will never buy one... too many factory recalls), HP (too much bloatware and overheating problems), Gateway (don't even bother), and Fujitsu (eh... bland design). ASUS has been catching my eye for quite some time now. I held out from buying their cheaper model, which cost about the same as this one about 6 months ago. I made the right decision to do so.

3 out of 5 eggsRuns way to hot

Pros: As everyone else says this is an awesome tablet for the price. You'd have a hard time finding a normal laptop with the same specs for the price of this guy and this is a tablet! The digital pen works great. Exactly what I was hoping for. Overall size is really nice too. Not to small not to big. Feels just like a big pad of paper except a bit heavier of course. Once you get vista configured and remove the tiny bit of bloat ware installed it's very responsive and snappy. The finger print scanner works great for me after I got the security chip installed.

Cons: So why did I only give it 3 eggs? Because even when it's sitting on my desk doing nothing the fan is running loud enough to easily hear a few feet away (think class room setting, BAD!!) and it is generating enough heat to make my hands sweat. I'm guessing based on the other reviews that this isn't normal but it's a HUGE bummer for me. I don't think I can RMA it since nothing is actually broken. Hopefully I can still use it for it's intended purpose but I'm a little doubtful. It was a bit of pain to get the security chip working. A tad bit of instructions on that would have been very helpful.

Other Thoughts: If anyone has any tips on how I can bring down the heat and fan speed I would be very appreciative. It's completly killing my hopes of digital lecture notes.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!

Pros: Perfect match of parts and size. Battery life was decent, we saw about 2.5 hours playing a DVD, with wireless enabled and bluetooth, on highest performance. Screen size is good and tablet feature is amazing. The internal mic works good along with the speakers, almost zero feedback. Keyboard layout is decent, as well si the mouse toch pad and buttons. The hinge felt sturdy for what it is, remember, this isn't a tough book. Vista worked really well for some reason, we really like the laptop/table features that vista has to offer, HUGE step up from windows tablet edition. All in all, this is a powerhouse notebook/table, its not meant for gaming because the video card is onboard, not a dedicated card.

Cons: The finger print scanner is a nice feature, but a pad would have worked much better. The screen could have been a little brighter, but still worked well. The battery does get hot, which can lead to the battery life being cut short. But still, there are way more features and Pro's that out weigh the little things.

Other Thoughts: We bought 4 of these for our field operations, and by the sounds of it, we may be looking into 6 more. If you want a great mobile solution, back to school laptop/table, this is the pick. Great hardware at a amazing price. Asus's quality is next to none, great packaging, even a decent laptop bag (if you like brown).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Talet PC

Pros: Great tablet! Has pretty much everything you can imagine and it works! I'm a college student and this year the requirements have been raised quite a bit but this laptop is perfect. My roommate has a Fujitu that was some $$$ more expensive and yet has the same functionality and even feels slower.

Cons: I wish the hinge could swivel either way but that's not that important. I don't know what ese to say, I'm really happy with the purchase!

Other Thoughts: Tablets are extremely useful. As a college student I can already tell everyone how useful the functionality is. I take notes, save them, print them, convert them to text and much more! Its probably the best thing I have purchased for college this year.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Great tablet for the price! Very well packed including tons of great extras like bags and a mouse. Runs like a dream and does anything i can throw at it!

Cons: Integrated graphics don't run games well, but as this is not a gaming laptop it isn't really a con. Also, pen has a weak look/feel to it and scratches easily but who cares when the actual laptop is great?!

Other Thoughts: I purchased 4 gigs of ram so that the integrated graphics didn't pull from the total

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop.

Pros: Great laptop for what you pay for it. Tablet/Convertible functionality is flawless. Windows Vista supports it out of the box. Very fast computer, great for people who need lots of power and storage.

Cons: Graphics could be better, the Intel Integrated sometimes doesn't cut it.

Other Thoughts: Awesome laptop, I use it at college and it's unmatched.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Tablet

Pros: Excelent product. Screen looks great, even compared to non-tablets. Has enough memory, CPU speed, and HD space to do anything you need it to do. Everything but the fingerprint reader worked perfectly in Vista, and it included a good deal of software, which is easy to uninstall if you don't need/want it.

Cons: Audio not great, but it is fine for a notebook. Achilles heel is the lack of graphics support, but still is able to run Vista flawlessly. Annoying not having firewire support. Fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work, but I wouldn't have used it anyway.

Other Thoughts: Slot loading is a cool feature. Some forums reported that the batteries degenerated rapidly, but I have yet to see any loss of charge. I strongly recommend this for anyone looking for a tablet. ASUS warranty and support are amazing for this sort of product.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice!

Pros: I researched tablets for a long time and finally bought this one because of the 13" widescreen display, wi-fi, bluetooth, 2ghz core 2, 2gigs ram, bluetooth mouse and vista. It's well packaged. It's nice they included a bag but the computer bag it comes with is UGLY! I got a nice oakley bag instead. I really like the size. It's nice and portable. It does get hot like all laptops but I got a metal wire laptop holder that's height adjustable from Walmart for $15, it rocks. I also got an esata express 54 card to connect to my hard drive.

Cons: weaknesses:
1) If you try and draw at the edge of the screen it get's a little wacky, it doesn't pickup the pen as well. not a huge deal.
2) No firewire, but I got an express 54 card that's firewire 800.
3) The battery only lasts 2.5 hours. I can live with that.

Other Thoughts: My requests to Asus for future tablets:
1) Place shift, ctrl, alt and spacebar on the screen side so when I flip the screen around so I can't get to the keyboard at least I can get to these buttons. There's room for them.
2) Please, please, please... start using backlit keyboards. I got a 10 LED that's USB so I can see in the dark. I'd pay extra for this.

Overall, I love this. It's the best tablet out there. I live off this thing. Apple... take some notes.
