5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great laptop. Beautiful screen, comfortable keyboard, and best of all -- good graphics card. I can even play NWN2 on it. Priced out comparable laptops at dell and hp, and I would have had to spend twice as much for their equivalent.

Cons: Some exotic hardware components. If you buy this and intend to install Linux or an OS other than M$, then you may have some challenges. Running live CDs indicated problems in particular with sound.

Also, max is 2gb of ram.

Other Thoughts: Stick another gig of ram in it. 1024 isn't a whole lot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop but order an extra gig of RAM

Pros: This is a great laptop for the money. One could argue that the processor lacks enough cache and clock, but in everyday this machine is fast. Vista is a bit of a hog, but with the outstanding video card and an extra gig of RAM it is very usable. Although Vista has it issue overall it has been very good, and is a much better product at launch relative to the WinME debacle. Sound on this laptop is great by laptop standards. BT2.0 and built in webcam/mic make it a well rounded portable. Comes with a nice Targus case and mouse. Amazing value.

Cons: Must have an extra gig of RAM to make Vista tolerable. Vista takes time to update and get used to, but after a week I am enjoying it.

Other Thoughts: Buy a stick of Corsair RAM.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Not so great OS

Pros: Huge monitor. Great looking laptop and has a very good feel. Loud speakers with great added button setups

Cons: VISTA VISTA VISTA!!!! All is good except that Vista requires, no DEMANDS way to much of your system resources. Laptop comes stock with 1 Gig of ram. This is not enough for Vistas demands!!!

Other Thoughts: Easy fix for the Vista demands just upgrade with 2gigs Gskills ram to fix the Vista demands.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus A7t..

Pros: Nice screen size, great visual stuff and vista is ok, but takes a lot to get use to.. still getting updates

Cons: Customer service is horrible and tough to get through to. Had a bad "b" key and it took 2 weeks to get it back after they got it. Then the free carry case broke after 1st use, no help there either..

Other Thoughts: Buddy of mine referred me to Asus. He has the G2P, and although this is much better than our first laptop, and Asus makes a great system, I have no faith in their cust. svc. at this time. A 1 day keyboard job took 2 weeks.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of best investment. It is that good.

Pros: 1. Price/Specs ratio. You can't beat this.
2. Nice screen, solidly built (partial aluminum, not all plastic) and I like the design as well as the feels on how it turns out, e.g. vent fan, 2.0USB position, etc. Only minor gribe is about ac plug in and optical bay are on the same side. So you need to turn the plug away from you so that it won't interfere with the loading tray.
3. Overalll Performance specs, CPU and GPU. Well, usually there are 4 level, low-end, mid-range, performance and high-end. At performance level you get both good battery life and good power out of your machine. This GPU 7600 will play newest games at mid/high settings without a problem. Even though the battery is no where near 4hrs like one of the HP model, it is pretty darn good for 17" running on high speed (~2hrs). I can watch one 2.5 hrs movie with some juice left.
4. Perform right out of the box. It is very easy to do it yourself upgrade.
5. Asus website is quite helpful getting what you need.

Cons: 1. I wish it has higher screen res. I like current max res because it is easy on eyes, but in certain cases, I need higher res environment.
2. You really do need to max out system memory to run Visa well. Get another gig of ram and you will be good to go.
3. Need more handy shorcut buttons.

Other Thoughts: I like Asus a lot as they do not pre-install many bloaties. As I said their website is very helpful. Again, get another gig with this lappy, install it and then boot it the first time. Allow time for Window to do all auto update fixes. This will take about 40min-1.5hrs depending on your internet connection. I hate to say this, but I really like Vista. My new A7 runs as fast or slightly faster or slower than my 3yrs old laptop (XP Pro with 2GB mem, 64MB ATI GPU, 80GB 7200rpm HDD ). I even leave Aero full function on, but turn off many Window services features. The major slow down I notice is boot up and shut down only when Window silently does any update for you. If there is no configurations change, it is as quick as my old XP Pro. I was a little hesitated with Vista at first, but gave it a try. Well, I do not need to get a new XP media and go back to old school. I am quite a happy camper for both Vista and this A7. You got all ready to roll system, only cost xtra for ram and shipping.

3 out of 5 eggsOne flaw, vista

Pros: loud speakers, slick screen, sleek design, built in camera is good.

Cons: no numeric pad, no dedicated volume controls. VISTA IS HORRIBLE! this machine would have been a 6 star with xp

Other Thoughts: I also boosted it up to 2 gigs of RAM, but it was STILL sluggish. It couldn't even play a fade slideshow without getting choppy. programs were constantly crashing. the sound card started making funny noises, the simplist tasks would take forever. Since when does it take 30 seconds to delete a word file?? After being annoyed for over a month I downgraded to XP x64 edition. What a difference! Now I can say this machine rocks. It was still a pain getting all the drivers, because they only supply the vista drivers. whatever, it works now, but im not touching vista for a while again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Great price for what you get. Video cards isnt the best but I havent ran into any trouble yet. Ran Ubuntu 7.04 on it and worked great. All the hardware worked properly except the sound card. Screen looks amazing. Good res.

Cons: Wireless card doesn't have the best range. I hate vista. Short battery life. Nothing really discouraging.

Other Thoughts: Get another gig of ram, make things a whole lot better.

4 out of 5 eggsBig, Beautiful Machine

Pros: Wonderful looking screen, great video really takes advantage of Vista's features. Decent processing power for only a 1.8G CPU

Cons: Heavy, short battery, and Vista. Also, I am not exactly efficient with the keyboard, so I find I am struggling with the layout. Not happy with the touchpad either, but a real mouse solves those problems

Other Thoughts: I bought this with the 1GB memory, booted it once to ensure it was operational, then I slammed the 2nd gig of memory in it and it runs Vista decently. 1GB is way too sluggish. But not a bad machine for the price. Just beware of the size if you want to travel a lot with it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Nice, solidly built laptop, and all the power I'll need for quite sometime! Nice case.

Cons: A little on the heavy side.

Other Thoughts: I pretty much agree with all the other reviews here! Can't go wrong for the price.
