Excellent Deal
- Pros: This laptop will run most games very smooth, it's a true powerhouse. The onboard video is not shared with main system memory and it really shines, this is a big pro. Windows Vista runs rather well and I've had no issues with playing games like WoW, Eve, even AoC runs on this beast but you can't choose the highest settings or your FPS will drop.
- Cons: Would recommend picking up more memory and upgrading to the 64bit windows vista ultimate os. Really not a con but should have come standard seeing this has a 64bit proc.
- Other Thoughts: If your into gaming but still need a work or school related laptop that is sturdy and backed by an excellent warranty you really should consider this, the cost is well justified and worth it.
Very nice..
- Pros: Great price for a great notebook. Good video graphics. Able to play most games. ( WOW, CoD4, WoC, BF2142 / 2, etc.) If your looking for a gameing laptop for a good price. Look here.
- Cons: None I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: This notebook is great right out of the box. You can't find another notebook that has the hardware this one dose for the price. Vista runs great. No problems at all. The 2600HD ATI VGA is a good buy. Plays evrything I throw at it. (WoC had to be ran in lower settings. but its going to happen from a game asking for a min of a 2.2 Ghz CPU) The 17" is nice viewing. Battery life is good for a 17". (about 1.5hrs on max out mode) If your looking for a good Gaming Laptop or fast notebook for your office needs. Look here and no where else.
Nice Machine
- Pros: Nice build quality. Fast Vista machine even with 2GB of ram. Very nice LCD. I bought the TL-58 version of this (1.9GHz processor)
- Cons: For those looking to downgrade to XP - FORGET ABOUT IT. This is an OEM machine built by Asus for Newegg. There are NO XP DRIVERS available anywhere (ATI chipset/2600 graphics). The solution is to run XP in a virtual machine. This works perfectly for backward compatibility. Also latest posted BIOS only sees 2.975GB of ram. There is no workaround except for a BETA BIOS that Asus is providing. Do not waste your money on ram unless you have this unreleased BIOS AND Windows Vista 64-Bit available. Vista 32 has the same functional 3GB ram limitation as WinXP. Technically they both 'support' 4GB but in practice the max is about 3GB, and it could feel slower if you have PAE enabled than just running it with 2GB of ram sometimes. Worth a shot if PAE works for you.
- Other Thoughts: Great 17" notebook for the price. It is what it is...
