Asus W7S
- Pros: Good price, Nice looking, 4.3 lbs--good for carrying around. Nice carrying case.
- Cons: Super hot laptop--throwing alot of hot air from right vent... not recommend for those who do not have air conditioner in the house on summer (but good for those who do not have a heater for winter). the laptop comes with only 1 slot for RAM.
A nice notebook for travellers
- Pros: This is my second ASUS notebook. In fact, they build very solid notebook. This w7s is my replacement of the w5a. I like it because it is compact with lots of built-ins like webcam, mic, tv-out, modem, BT, SD card reader, 802.11/b/g/n Wifi, wireless mouse, and carry-case. The screen is bigger than the w5a. The performance is great and the LCD is bright and crystal clear.
- Cons: It is hot in the right hand side. The speaker is weak. So-so battery life (about 2-3 hours). The wireless mouse requires the BT always on. Lots of useless software pre-installed. Poor tech support but reponsive. The default settings on the touch pad is not right, but it will be good after customizing the settings. Even the graphics card is nvidia, it does not support SIM People 2 (surprise me).
- Other Thoughts: My family almost needs to travel overseas at least once a year. I always have to carry my notebook because I and my wife may need to VPN to the office when we are away from home. With this notebook, I do not need to carry the external devices to do video conference, and skype. The SD card reader allows me to view/transfer photo anytime. Since the form factor is so small, it is very easy to carry around. The wifi never fails on me to connect any hotspots or access point. The desgin is very stylist so I won't feel bad if a guy is using th Apple MacBook next to me. For the price and the quality, you can't get wrong with this w7s.
Excellent Notebook
- Pros: Fast, Reliable, long battery life (4+ Hrs with wifi on and maximum brightness), and superb quality. I am in the IT industry and been playing with computers since 1985. Among the 30 or so PCs I have owned since then, this one is by far the best quality I have seen. It blows Sony away. I bought this for my wife, who complains about everything. Yet she has nothing but praises about this laptop. It is reasonably light, comes with pretty much everyting, and even comes with wireless IR mouse, computer case, protective casings, wire mangement straps etc. It really is fully loaded. No problem whatsoever. This notebook make me a believer of Asus product. Even better than IBM, Sony, and Acer Ferrari.
- Cons: Windows Vista :( The worse operating system since Microsoft BOB.
If you want to keep you sanity, first thing first, delete Microsoft Vista and reload Windows XP. I had nothing but problems with Vista on this PC. Sometimes the IE browser stops responding to mouse/touchpad clicks and require a reboot to fix the problem. Thankfully I reloaded XP before my wife throws the laptop out of the house, and everything works great since.
- Other Thoughts: This is really a laptop for girls. It is a powerful PC packed in a "cute" package. I would not recommend the white color to most mens as we tend to have dirty hands and it really shows up on a white laptop. If you are a clean freak, then its no problem.
