Personal computing has never been so portable, or so affordable. The new EeePC, a joint venture between Intel and Asus, is designed to be your constant companion and your elegant yet affordable introduction to computing. Weighing in at only 2 pounds, with a compact and highly-readable seven-inch display, the EeePC is perfect little assistant. Running on a customized Linux operating system, it responds far more speedily than its Windows counterparts, but it'll run Windows XP quite happily, if you like.
The EeePC offers two types of intuitive interface, to let you choose how you want to use it. Using either the "Easy" or full desktop mode, you can use the built-in WLAN connectivity to communicate on the run, share photos from your trip before you get home, or do almost anything else online. Flash storage keeps the weight low – without a hard drive, this micro-monster weighs in at 0.89 kilograms . . . that's less than two pounds!
With the 40 included applications, onboard webcam, high-speed internet capability, and exquisite sound, the EeePC could become your best friend – move over, Fido!

All that I hoped
- Pros: Fast boot and shutdown, quiet, great wireless, clear and bright screen, light weight, sturdy.
- Cons: I researched this before I bought it and it's exactly what I thought it was, no cons.
- Other Thoughts: My desktop computer is an alienware gaming machine. I got the eee mainly for wireless websurfing and for a mobile media player using my 120GB portable hard drive (which works great with the eee by the way). I hooked up a wireless mouse and it works flawlessly without having to install anything. It surfs the web like a champ, pages load quickly, I'm very happy.
Great Secondary Laptop
- Pros: An excellent machine for those who travel or just need to do basic things on the go. Its not a primary machine, as the keyboard is far too small, but has alot of nice features (webcam, decent ram, connectivity) It starts up really quickly (15 secs) and is ready to use. It comes with a whole host of open-source software (firefox, open office, email) and can be used by even the most novice computer user. A definite buy if you need a cheap ultra portable or want to introduce a child to computing on a simplistic platform. Lastly, It looks really cool (not much like a laptop at all) and fits conveniently into a car's seat pocket or into a large pocket of a coat. Included sleeve makes it easy to keep safe.
- Cons: They could certainly have made the screen a bit larger. With the default resolution (which cannot be changed w/o a driver update) many pages, including this one, requires a significant amount of scrolling. Using the full version of the OS is not intuitive at all, and advanced users will feel quickly trapped by the easy interface (i.e. no command prompt). No surprise that the keyboard is pretty small, and pressing multiple keys is a near certainty (read: no lengthy typing) One other note, if you are considering installing windows on this machine, dont. It doesnt run very well and is a bit sluggish. The startup takes 10x longer and applications take much longer to run. Also, should you install something like office, you will soon realize that you are running short on disk space.
- Other Thoughts: Cute, very, very cute. Packs alot of bang for the buck, and while isnt the $199 OLPC killer that was originally announced, it is alot smaller then other bargain priced laptops and is cheaper then equally sized machines

Pretty good, but remember to update
- Pros: Small, this keyboard is actually good for me because I have small hands. Its light. It has met all of the expectations after I updated it.
- Cons: Wireless didn't work out of the box with my Linksys router. After a week of messing with it, finally got the thought to update it. After that it worked just fine. Also advance mode didn't come default like I would have expected from the description.
- Other Thoughts: Fairly good pc if you know what to expect.
Awesome!!
- Pros: Received this amazing little machine today (2 days from Newegg, Cali to Columbus!) and I am more than impressed with it. I don't own any other laptop, and just needed a portable companion to my powerful desktop. This thing is more than perfect. I reverted to the advanced Xandros desktop because I prefer a higher level of customization than what the simple interface offered. Right off the bat I was connected to the wireless, using Thunderbird with my gmail account, browsing the web, watching youtube vids, and doing everything I need on the go.
- Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
- Other Thoughts: Many people complain about the size of the keyboard. It took me about 5 minutes to adjust, and I am typing this on my EEE. It's very easy to type on. Side scrolling in some websites isn't as bothersome as you would think. I've heard other complaints about the mouse "button" located below the touchpad, and I don't know why. Simply click on the left side for a left mouse click and the right for a right mouse click, couldn't get any easier!
- Pros: small, light, useful, quick once setup
- Cons: battery life and screen resolution choices.
- Other Thoughts: I order this and 2GB of memory. First thing I did was install the memory and tried to install windows xp pro. It didn't work but then I looked in the manual and followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. It was nice to have external usb cd-rom for that.
Installing the software was a little slower than a normal desktop but no slower than most laptops. Once everything was setup, the computer runs quick and launches programs quickly. I've installed our software and MSDE SQL and it's almost as fast as our new desktops and much faster than some of our older equipment. The battery doesn't last as long as other laptops. This pc is being used to to help my sales people for installing routers/Internet for our customers. It fits the bill for being light, quick, and easy to use. We have ordered the 900 12G with the 8.9" screen to see if it's better.
