5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have been using this computer at work for the last few days and have yet to find something that i will need to do professionally that this small EEE cant do.

Cons: NONE!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsAnother great product from Asus!

Pros: Size, Weight and Functionality of this thing make it a great ultra mobile PC. I put a custom install of XP Home on this thing and it runs great. I put AutoCAD on it to see if it could handle it, and it does quite well. Works as a great movie player for the kids on long trips.

Cons: The only cons that I or anyone else can think of aren't realy cons because this is not meant to replace your desktop or laptop. Think of it as a powerful PDA / multimedia player.

Other Thoughts: I had this fall off of my suburban (6 ft high) at 25mph and aside from the scratches nothing was broken. The case took the hit to the pavement, and all the components still function as before. (Yes, I set it on top and forgot to grab it before driving off.)

2 out of 5 eggsStay Away unless you intend to rip it apart

Pros: It's small, the concept of having an almost pocket size laptop with all the same capabilities was why I purchased this. Plus it's the cheapest laptop you'll ever find. It's very sturdy also, I've thrown mine against the wall 3 times it still powers up and does what it does.

Cons: The 2GB flash drive version (HDD is actually 1.7GB) is too small to put on a full version of XP. The screen resolution is too small in the included Linux build (Xandros) to view webpages efficiently. An updated driver is not available...yet. You have to scroll side ways and up/down to see anything. Plus the Linux bars on the top and bottom take up screen room. It already fried the 4GB Transcend SDHC card that came with it, plus the BIOS won't install straight to the SDHC card even after I bought a high end card.

Other Thoughts: The included O/S pretty much HAS to be hacked to get any real use out of it. The Easymode as it's called is supposed to be Plug N Play everything, but when that doesn't work, there's no way to manually configure hardware without applying some hacks and digging into consoles. Think PDA.

**Oh and the 2G version is not the same as he 4G. All those fancy mods and hacks that are on the wiki sites are near impossible with the 2G version, AND it's not upgradeable memory-wise. Theres no Dimm slot, ram is on the one board with everything else. The case is slimmer than the 4G so theres no room for anything extra without "making it fit"

4 out of 5 eggsGood for basic uses

Pros: So small you can carry it in a large purse
Connects to wireless quickly and solidly
Quiet fan
Linux works solid and laptop surfs the net easily
Great sound
Well built--solid construction.

Cons: Small keyboard--if you have large hands it is difficult to type easily
Screen is small--some websites won't fit and you have to scroll sideways.
No hard drive but you can use a USB portable hard drive or flash key for storage

Other Thoughts: Great little computer for travel or for small spaces. It's meant to be an internet surfer and it does that very well. It's fun and can be useful for some situations but it's not intended to be a replacement for a larger laptop with more power, features and a hard drive.

4 out of 5 eggsperfect for lightweight applications and a modders paradise

Pros: Can run XP with a bit of work. Quick boot times. Solid construction. Great for modding if you're willing to brick the computer and is going to make a terrific carputer.

Cons: The included linux distro was a bit cranky if you need specific apps installed. As an out of the box setup it is perfectly adequate.

Other Thoughts: A modders paradise. I'm currently in the process of adding a touch screen to my Eee. Yes this does void any warranty the computer comes with. There are plenty of other mods one can do if one is willing to risk the computer. My plans are to make the Eee a car computer used for music as well as OBD2 readouts.

4 out of 5 eggsAn overall good machine

Pros: 15 sec boot up works great! You can never beat Linux speed.
Comes with messenger and Firefox pre-installed very light yet still has a very sturdy feel to it. Speakers sound allot better than what you would think. You don't evan have to buy a laptop case for it it fits very nicely in a video camera case. Only one fan and it quietly manages to keep the laptop very cool. Connects to wireless internet very well.

Cons: Comes with Linux recovery discs but has no internal cd drive. Watching you tube videos and what not is a little rough at times. It may say that the battery lasts 2 and a half hours but if you have the wireless internet going and music playing the battery only manages to squeeze out about an hour. Just in case you don't already know this will not replace your desktop. And I had alot of trouble getting java to work. (scream)

Other Thoughts: I got the ups 3 day shipping and it arrived the next day! And just as a tip if you want to keep it running fast in Firefox when your done surfing the web go to tools and clear the private data. Plus there isn't nearly as many viruses for Linux as there is for mac and windows so you don't really have to worry about it too much.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: VERY small, wi-fi is awesome, it's quiet, cool, and over-all a great product if you're looking for a different type of mobile pc.

Cons: Smallish screen, small keyboard.

Other Thoughts: I got XP down to 215MB after the install and SP2 updates. It works perfect, and boot is about 8 seconds or so from cold start. The RAM is fine, regardless of what other people say- I've ran Reason, Protools...etc without a real problem. I mainly got this to play some backup emulators at work (SNES mainly), and it works perfectly for this. Web browsing is great on it as well- I installed flash-block and adblock with FliterG....I honestly haven't had to sidescroll while browsing the web except on maybe 2 sites. The speakers aren't good for music, but they're PERFECT for older console games, and very loud if need be.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, small and small. If you're looking for a time killer while at a dull night job or you want to write a document and surf the 'net anywhere you are without lugging a big old laptop around, this fits the bill completely.

Don't bother with the larger versions unless you have the money to blow - the 2G serves the purposes just fine.

It's not a gaming rig, it's a productivity enhancing computational device.

Easy to get advanced desktop mode and pretty easy to install new programs, even for a linux noob like myself (never been successful with linux until now).

Cons: Battery life leaves a bit to be desired, thus the lost egg, but there are larger batteries available for purchase around the web - can't vouch for quality, but they exist.

Other Thoughts: Couldn't be happier. Only sad that I ordered the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, so it took forever to get here (not Newegg's fault, my fault with bad timing)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, Small & Lightweight, Easy UI, VGA output that works with my montior.

Cons: only about 300mb of space leftover (though u could use a memory card or USB drive for more space), small screen (though i think thats the point of the product), no room to upgrade ram, underclocked cpu

then again i knew all of this going in

Other Thoughts: i havent tried installing any programs on it so no comment on that yet.

others were complaining about the size of the keyboard, and i thought id have a hard time as my hands are big, but its actually pretty easy to use. my gripe is the touchpad cause im not used to it. need to get a usb mouse soon.

I also got a question, ive read it somewhere, but i cant find it. how do u switch to desktop mode so you can use the desktop instead of the tabs (im new to linux). also view the advance options (if that makes sense).

overall good buy, now i have a computer wherever i go.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap notebook to take quick notes/web/pics

Cons: cant install XP/CPU underclocked

Other Thoughts: if all u need is web + college notes this is what you need.
