EGGcellente Notebook!
- Pros: Hi there. First of all BiG Thnx for NewEgg costumer care!!
Now: Notebook looks nice , it is very light, came with bunch of accessories (as shown on the picture. It is very fast! Processor 2GHz, 3GB of RAM and ATI HD video card with 1GB VRAM with DVI and VGA output. Big 250GB HDD. Webcam and microphone are built in to make international phone calls using SKYPE! I like it! Video processing very fast. Firewire input 4 pin, 5 USB 2.0 PLENTY!!!! and card readers. I already burn some DVDs, nice and fast (however did not check the DL capability)No problem with wireless network, no drop outs. 5 stars!
- Cons: I found only 3 cons so far. THE FIRST thing which bugs me is that there is NO HDMI video output (I got myself DVI to HDMI adapter but it is just clumsy). THE SECOND, the letters on the keyboard are color DARK GRAY which makes them almost invisible at night. I get use to bright white. Anyway, THE THIRD thing, while using the USB (cute) ASUS mouse on the right side of the machine your hand will be exposed to the vent where the heat is releasing. Little warm that is all!
- Other Thoughts: I am giving this machine 5 stars. The 3 cons which I listed are NO BIG DEAL ( I just wanted to list them to be helpful)
Highly recommend this machine to everyone!
I love my lappy!
- Pros: All around good laptop. This machine is capable of playing games at decent resolutions and frame rates. I use it at LAN parties where we typically play UT2004, Rise of Nations and Dawn of War. I have also played Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Portal, HL2 etc... all with good playability. I typically use 1280x800 resolution and have noticed only occasional stutter in Oblivion.
Wireless works good. Bluetooth works good. Burns CDs with no problems (haven't tried DVDs).
I am a linux user and Ubuntu 8.04 installed with no issues. The 250GB drive comes as two partitions approximately equal in size. The second partition is labeled as "Data". I installed Ubuntu here and everything works as described.
- Cons: These issues are minor but worth pointing out.
The hot air from the processor vents out the right side near the hinge and could blow onto your mouse hand.
The network port is upside down (contacts belong on top to keep dust off) and as others have pointed out, pressing the release tab on a patch cable is very hard to do.
The keyboard is a little loud on the left hand side. The Tab key especially makes a louder noise when pressed. It almost feels like that side of the keyboard isn't attached completely. None of the letter or number keys have this problem. I am otherwise satisfied with the keyboard.
The fglrx driver seems to have issues when coming out of sleep/hibernation in Ubuntu. It still works, but sometimes the title bars are replaced by random noise or something. This doesn't happen in Vista, but FYI for Ubuntu users. Here's to hoping for an updated driver :)
- Other Thoughts: I kept Vista due to reports of not being able to find XP drivers, although I see newegg is now including an XP driver disk (also available separately for purchase for the low low cost of $TOO_MUCH_MONEY). I use Vista for gaming and Ubuntu for everything else and this laptop works well under both OSs.
Battery life is adequate for my needs. I get an estimated 2 hours of use while surfing (wireless) with the LCD brightness turned down. I haven't tried gaming on the battery and I don't intend to.
The laptop stays warm most of the time but is fairly quiet. You can hear the fan run in a silent room but you have to try. It does get louder (but not obnoxiously so) during gaming. I have no complaints about noise.
I recommend this buy for someone looking for a decent all around laptop where playing games is a requirement.

Very good system overall
- Pros: The laptop has great build quality as compared to previous laptops I've owned from Dell. Very solid, no creaking plastic anywhere. I like the lightweight and the 5 USB ports really come in handy. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase save for a few minor little things.
- Cons: I don't like that this thing exhausts the hot air on the right hand side of the machine since I'm right-handed. Also, the fan seems to run constantly and the air does get quite warm. Another problem I'm having with my particular model is the wireless. It keeps dropping off even when I'm in the same room as the router, an older Linksys B router. I have since upgraded that to a WRT54G and the laptop is still having trouble keeping a solid wireless connection. Also, It seems to run a bit slow at times and I'll blame that on Vista not the hardware. I'm gonna try running XP Pro on it and see if it improves.
- Other Thoughts: Overall a great system, I have been gaming on it with great results. Have been playing COD 5 Far Cry 2 and Crysis on it no problems.
Power can't be beat for the price
- Pros: Pretty powerful machine, can run Fry Cry 2 on pretty high settings at max resolution with no problem. Nice screen size and a good weight for its size. Battery life seems pretty solid to me, I can get about 1.5-2+ hours on a single charge if you turn off some Areo Glass and bluetooth and dim the screen a little. Perfect for taking notes in a class where all I need is the internet and some notepad like program. For the money (I paid $900, not $1100) you really can't go wrong.
- Cons: Case gets a lot of finger prints on it, if that kind of thing bothers you.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop to replace my Macbook because I needed something more powerful for indi-grade game development. It is pretty comperable in both weight and battery life, which was very surprising. It does run Vista, but if you consider it a really bad attempt at OS X-ifying windows its just bad, instead of horrible. Let's hope they get it right or go back to what windows does best next round.
This laptop also come with a lot of nice extras (mouse, bag, cleaning cloths) which saves you on the cost of buying them if you can live with the okay style and design. Not much extra junk-ware is installed on the OS, and what is there is, for the most part, pretty useful especially if you are a computer novice or new to Vista.
I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone going off to college that needs something pretty powerful (either for gaming or computer development)
Great Laptop
- Pros: Speed, Graphics, Lots of Storage
- Cons: None really
- Other Thoughts: My laptop was shipped with 2GB Ram, not 3. And since I already threw out the box, I cant send it back. So be careful guys, when you get your laptop make sure to look for the amount of RAM that is installed.
