4 out of 5 eggsVery good system overall

Pros: The laptop has great build quality as compared to previous laptops I've owned from Dell. Very solid, no creaking plastic anywhere. I like the lightweight and the 5 USB ports really come in handy. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase save for a few minor little things.

Cons: I don't like that this thing exhausts the hot air on the right hand side of the machine since I'm right-handed. Also, the fan seems to run constantly and the air does get quite warm. Another problem I'm having with my particular model is the wireless. It keeps dropping off even when I'm in the same room as the router, an older Linksys B router. I have since upgraded that to a WRT54G and the laptop is still having trouble keeping a solid wireless connection. Also, It seems to run a bit slow at times and I'll blame that on Vista not the hardware. I'm gonna try running XP Pro on it and see if it improves.

Other Thoughts: Overall a great system, I have been gaming on it with great results. Have been playing COD 5 Far Cry 2 and Crysis on it no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsPower can't be beat for the price

Pros: Pretty powerful machine, can run Fry Cry 2 on pretty high settings at max resolution with no problem. Nice screen size and a good weight for its size. Battery life seems pretty solid to me, I can get about 1.5-2+ hours on a single charge if you turn off some Areo Glass and bluetooth and dim the screen a little. Perfect for taking notes in a class where all I need is the internet and some notepad like program. For the money (I paid $900, not $1100) you really can't go wrong.

Cons: Case gets a lot of finger prints on it, if that kind of thing bothers you.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop to replace my Macbook because I needed something more powerful for indi-grade game development. It is pretty comperable in both weight and battery life, which was very surprising. It does run Vista, but if you consider it a really bad attempt at OS X-ifying windows its just bad, instead of horrible. Let's hope they get it right or go back to what windows does best next round.

This laptop also come with a lot of nice extras (mouse, bag, cleaning cloths) which saves you on the cost of buying them if you can live with the okay style and design. Not much extra junk-ware is installed on the OS, and what is there is, for the most part, pretty useful especially if you are a computer novice or new to Vista.

I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone going off to college that needs something pretty powerful (either for gaming or computer development)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Speed, Graphics, Lots of Storage

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: My laptop was shipped with 2GB Ram, not 3. And since I already threw out the box, I cant send it back. So be careful guys, when you get your laptop make sure to look for the amount of RAM that is installed.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Laptop

Pros: Great laptop, does anything I need it to do. Easy to upgrade and repair if needed. Two panels and you can easily access, RAM, CPU, GPU, HDD, or Wireless card. 1024mb GPU is difficult to beat in a laptop. Runs several games at high settings 1280x800 resolution.

Cons: Battery life, 45-90 minutes on battery power playing games. Not hard to get access to an outlet, would recommend an extra battery if going to be travelling a lot.

Other Thoughts: No problems what so ever with Vista. My biggest complaint was the Norton's was kinda annoying, but a useful utility, may actually subscribe.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a good notebook

Pros: I purchased this notebook so that I would have something to use while I was on vacation in the Philippines. I used it for surfing, e mail, gaming, and watching movies. I have had no problems with this machine at all. I got it for a great sale price, came with xp drivers if I want to roll it back. and played far cry and quake 4 on hi at the screens native resolution without any slowdowns. the screen is vivid and looks very good. the warranty is awesome and it's not too heavy. perfect for traveling :)

Cons: battery life is pretty sad. hour and 45 min is about the best I ever got. although the screen looks very nice. the viewing angles are not so good. looks best at a very slight downward angle, this is largely irrelevant as it is not a television.

Other Thoughts: I would buy it again. and will be giving asus notebooks first consideration for future purchases. I have found their notebooks to be of very good quality

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop!

Pros: - Gaming capabilities (Any steam game, company of heroes, etc.)
- Super lightweight
- Solid construction
- Lots of sweet accessories
- 3GB RAM and Dual core
- Looks awesome
- Tons of USB ports

Cons: - This is extremely picky, but....the plastic section to the left of the mouse touch pad is a bit flimsy so if you're a gamer (use the wasd keys) it pushes down and squeaks a little bit if you put too much pressure on it.
- Function key at very bottom left corner shares space with ctrl key, so once again if you're a gamer this can be annoying because ctrl key is out of reach.

Other Thoughts: This is my first laptop and I'm much more than pleased. Great price for what you're getting, and I've always trusted ASUS for quality and performance. If you're getting a laptop look no further and buy this thing!

5 out of 5 eggsJust great for the price

Pros: It's a great laptop. Comes with a lot of accessories, which I don't use but still. I played many games with it including Crysis with almost all settings in high and it runs smooth, no lag. Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz, a lot of HD space, 3 gb of memories excellent for 32 bits Vista. Manage vista like my $3000+ desktop, which is great. Good battery life almost 3 hrs on power saving (excellent while taking a test and there is no AC plugs.

Cons: Fn was a pain but I got use to it.
Webcam...very slow -_-
DVD-ROM open button. It is very easy to press, even if u don't want to.
Scroll is very annoying...I have to get use to it.

Other Thoughts: It is the best choice that I know so far if u have only $1000.
If u have more money to spend I recommend the F8Va-B1 or the great F8Va-C1 which has a Instant saving of $400 right now!!!

4 out of 5 eggsgreat laptop with few weakness

Pros: fast and sturdy.

Cons: Fn key in place of ctrl, very annoying, I keep looking at the keyboard which I almost never do with other PC/Laptop.
screen is good but has somewhat limited view angle.
keyboard doesn't have enough reflex.
Hcontrol utility which controls multimedia key (including volume adj) sucks. if you don't care about the hotkeys next to the indicator lights, get rid of it then.

Other Thoughts: overall, very nice for $900, little annoyances here and there but nothing deal breaking.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but

Pros: Basically, this is a great piece of hardware... it runs Vista GREAT. Everything is very snappy but the trackpad is driving me crazy.

Cons: The scroll area is messed up. If you go all the way over to the right of the trackpad to scroll you're out of the area so you have to come back in a millimeter. It's nuts. And the scrolling is not smooth at all. I've adjusted all the trackpad settings every which way and I've made it better but still not nearly as good as my Dell or many other laptops I've tried. I also hate the location of the Fn key as others have mentioned. I wonder if I can re-map the Ctrl key there??

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Bang for Buck

Pros: Great hardware for the price. Unlike most laptops these days, comes with seperate DVDs to restore yourlaptop instead of eating up hard drive space with a restore partition. Plays games like Gothic 3 and Spore just fine. Battery is life is very good (1:30 to 3 hours depending on what you do).

Cons: 1: ASUS split the harddrive into two equal partions
2: the vent is right where I use the mouse, and it gets hot
3: built in wireless isn't very strong, and loses the signal from time to time.
4: The mouse died in an hour.
5: Vista
6: the Fn key is right where the Ctrl key should be
7: the DVD drive LED is UNDER the laptop
8: No NUM lock LED
9: the DVD drive door lock is poor quality. Be VERY careful closing the DVD drive.
10: finger prints build up fast, clean it often
11: built in webcam has a very low frame rate
12: the tips of my fingers will get stuck under the keys from time to time.

Other Thoughts: Despite the cons list, it's a good laptop and I'm happy with it.
