Impressed
- Pros: This laptop is great for mobile computing, toying in linux, or just listening to and downloading music. Once you find the correct repositories it is fairly easy to install most of the programs you would want on this lil thing. I was able to remove amarok and install xmms, as well as a few other speedier programs to make this computer how i see fit. Its really an impressive little machine. The specs are plenty for running xandros in advanced mode. I <3 it.
- Cons: They keyboard, even for someone with smaller hands, is a little hard to use. Once you adjust to where the buttons are you can hunt and peck letters, but don't expect to be writing a term paper on this thing. It gets warmer than I expected for a netbook. its not super hot, just warmer than I thought. Certainly not as magma hot as the mini-note. Also I find that the speakers being on the bottom of the unit are sometimes muffled when i put it in my lap. These are all minor issues however. Just buy one. Jeez.
- Other Thoughts: Overall this has surpassed my expectations. I wasn't looking for a powerhouse and I'm not trying to be a mobile gamer. I use this laptop for surfing the internet, downloading music, playing music, and watching saved and youtube videos. For general computing tasks this laptop is more than enough. I wish this thing was around when I was in college because it would have been awesome.
Installed XP
- Pros: After realizing that Linux is not for me, I installed XP with no problems and Microsoft Office 07 as well. I use this PC for browsing the web and pretty much everything I could want to do. The keyboard size was an issue for the first day, but it isnt that hard to adapt to. I rarely even use my desktop PC anymore.
Gaming on the eeePC is fine, as long as you retro-back to when games were designed to run on this level of hardware. Ive been playing the original Unreal Tournament on small screen resolution/medium textures with no problem. The screen is small enough I cant tell what the graphics are lacking ;) There are various console emulators out there that also run fine on this, even N64.
- Cons: -I installed windows on the 4g drive instead of the 16g, and windows wants to remind me all the time how little space is left on it.
- Other Thoughts: I went crawling back to Windows, and I love it.
GREAT
- Pros: Amazingly small, great-looking case, the OS is nicely organized and is easy to use (though i think I'll install Ubuntu or XP soon), extremely fast startup and shutdown times, and just great.
- Cons: The small keyboard will take about an hour to get used to, and it's a TINY bit slow, whcih can be remedied by 4 gigs of RAM
- Other Thoughts: Must buy for ultraportability
