5 out of 5 eggsI love mine!

Pros: I love this thing! The screen is small but very clear. I bought it for travel including in my own small plane and it is very convenient for that (casual consumer use - internet and email).

Cons: For some reason, every time I turn it on (including coming out of standby) the video comes up in 1024x768 mode, which makes the tool bar disappear. This is probably because I plugged it into a desktop LCD when I was setting it up. If I knew what I was doing this would probably not be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I deleted the bloatware and compressed the C drive and I have XP SP3 and NIS2008 on with 1 Gb to spare.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: nice design, light, keyboard is small and comfortable.

Cons: battery lasts for a small amount of time. Takes a lot of time for the battery to charge, and the keyboard is getting hot after about hlaf an hour when working with the laptop

Other Thoughts: Overall great laptop for the money, but I expected a little bit more faster cpu.

4 out of 5 eggsGood LITTLE machine

Pros: Fast boot (depending on which anti-virus you put on it)
Nifty little machine for a second laptop
Screen res is decent (1024 x 600 or a scrollable 1024 x 768)
Great Slingplayer (portable TV)

Cons: HDD setup (C: is 4gb; D: is 8 gb) - makes it tricky to install additional programs
XP HOME - make sure you don't need XP PRO before ordering this
WHITE (Black wasn't available when I ordered, is now.)
No Blue Tooth (although the dongle I already had works fine)

Other Thoughts: I have been looking for a tiny laptop with SSD (or giant PDA) to use around the office for taking notes. This fits the bill with the exception that it is XP HOME. The keyboard is neither a pro nor con, but can be used efficiently with some practice.

5 out of 5 eggsFor the genius with a one rating

Pros: For the genius who thinks his computer is used because the windows label has a hole in it, they all come with holes in them. That is the way the label is made. Makes it harder to counterfit.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Know what you are talking about before you talk trash about a product.

3 out of 5 eggsClose but no cigar...

Pros: Small form factor. Nice feature set. Good memory amount.

Cons: Still too expensive. 1/2 a computer should cost 1/2 as much. You can get twice the computer in a 15" notebook for the same price. The processor is still a bit slow, but that'll change soon with newer mobile procs coming out. Battery life should be better. Drive splitting is a problem too. I'd rather they completely dump the SSD and go totally SD card based. Even ship without an SD card of any type, that way I can build it as I please. I know there's a performance and reliability difference between an SSD drive and an SD card, but not enough to warrant the high price. I'd figure this machine would be a couple hundred less without the SSD drive. SD cards are getting faster too. I boot Linux from SD cards in machines all the time and it's plenty fast with the right card.

Other Thoughts: Robo was almost correct. There is only a 4 gig SSD drive in this machine. That is also why it's more expensive than it needs to be. The other 8 gig (or 16 gig depending on the model you buy) is on an slow SD card (basically ram, or at least close enough to ram) So, due to the price and the drive configuration I won't buy yet, and only give it 3 out of 5 stars.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus sales junk...

Pros: None, very disappointed.

Cons: I purchased Asus Eee 900 with Windows XP installed as "new". When I opened the "sealed" box, I immediately noticed a 3 inch scratch on the top cover. At the bottom, the Windows label had a hole in it. Then, when I fully recharged the batteries overnight and in the morning I removed the power, it was at 90% (i.e. batteries are shot).

Bottom line is that this notebook was "used".

Either it was used for testing or the previous owner was a big shot at Asus.
Reminds me of the time back in 1970's when Chrysler execs drove the new models for a year or so and then turned around and sold it to the public as "new".

Well, we see Asus doing the same thing...
I've read similar reportings about Asus.

Other Thoughts: If you plan to buy a small notebook, check Sony and Dell models.
If you plan to get a motherboard, I'd suggest Gigabit and Biostar, they are just as good.
Stay away from Asus if you don't want to get ripped off...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value for the price

Pros: Extremely portable. I am a student and I have been looking for a laptop that is easy to carry around in my bookbag for taking notes during class and doing simple computer work at school. This machine fits the bill perfectly.
Wireless worked perfectly out of the box with no problems whatsoever. While the screen is very small, the image is extremely sharp and easy to look at.
The multitouch pad is extremely convenient and many of the gestures make using the machine *much* easier.

Cons: Nothing really major. The keyboard is *very* small, but that is to be expe.cted with a computer this small. The real problem is that some of the keys are somewhat difficult to hit, particularly the spacebar. If you do not hit it square in the middle, it will often not register. It's not a crippling problem, but it should be mentioned.
The only other complaint that I have is that some of the included software doesn't make that much sense, particularly the inclusion of both StarOffice and Microsoft Works, but it is a simple matter to change this to your liking if you wish.

Other Thoughts: I am a linguistics student, and one of the first things that I did is install Praat, an open-source phonetic analysis suite. With the inclusion of a USB microphone, you can get a very effective and portable phonetics lab.

5 out of 5 eggsEEEPC Rules

Pros: Good size, full CPU support for throttling using Rightmark tool in windows or Linux kernel module. I've read your battery can last 8 hours when throttling properly. The fit and finish it excellent.

Cons: Fan sounds like monkey farts. It's fine most of the time, but in a quiet room at night it sounds like it has sand in it -- probably a REALLY low grade fan.

The ASUS's EEEPC support is terrible, go ahead look on their website for drivers. Its confusing and weak action at best.

Luckily there is a few good forums to find all the nitty gritty for this little beast to make up for ASUS's low end marketing and support.

Other Thoughts: The ATOM is coming someday but the Celeron 900MHZ is faster than the 1.6GHZ ATOM in benchmarks using multiple threads. Most people use multiple threads. Do you keep Skype on or AOL IM on while surfing the web? Each PROCESS uses a thread. Keeping that in mind I decided not to wait for the ATOM and I'm very happy with this unit.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its a great notebook any user, it your children would like it even more "cute" and small, and perfectly fit into a students lifestyle.

Cons: I really have no regrets on getting this laptop for my 11 year old.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly I Wanted

Pros: Perfect size, light, speakers were surprisingly amazing, and the touchpad works nicely with the pc.

Cons: The only con I had was the keyboard seemed to be a little flimsy. I could wiggle the casing of the keyboard inside the computer, and the top right of the keys seemed less secure. Not sure exactly why, but not enough to warrant a loss of an egg.

Other Thoughts: Had to get XP because of a lost battle with my sister (who the PC is actually for). I would suggest streamlining your own XP and cut down on some of the extra junk that comes with the installed one (why star office and works?).
