The F8Va from Asus revolutionizes the way you get your entertainment on the go, and it has features to improve your privacy and productivity. The 14" screen has Splendid video technology with 5 modes and 3 skin tone settings to optimize the image depending on what you are viewing.

The webcam also works with face recognition software so you can log on with just a look, or use the fingerprint reader by the touchpad for additional security. Additionally, Boot and HDD passwords ensure no one gets in where they shouldn't.

All of this functionality is great, but useless in isolation. That's why there is a plethora of wired and wireless connection options. Circling the shell are 5xUSB, 1xFireWire, 1xRJ-11, 1xGigabit Ethernet, 1xHDMI and more. Wireless connectivity includes 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth V2.1.

4 out of 5 eggsTop of Lap

Pros: Decent laptop for the money. Havent had any problems. Screen has a good view area. Wireless card is amazing. Pretty much anything wont disapoint.

Cons: Software bogs the system down. System needs Windows Vista 64 bit. The 4 gigs that come with the system isnt utilized. Finger print scanner is worthless and the camera is junk.

Other Thoughts: Hard drive has a decent amount of space for a laptop and the battery lasts surprisingly long. Has many different buttons made specifically for laptops which makes life that much easier

5 out of 5 eggsEffective and running triple boot vista, winxp, suse linux 11.1

Pros: Happy with overall quality once repaired, very pleased to finally get a laptop to triple boot. fast and effective with decent graphics and 4gig ram. small enough to fit into my camera backpack, but powerful enough to do almost anything reasonable for the price.

Cons: Initially came with badly working then dead web cam. Asus tech support was comatose, but customer service was very good and covered shipping both ways. Annoying but I wouldn't let that stop you from getting an ASUS. I bought the xp driver disk and most of it worked, but still had to do some digging to get the wifi and audio to work for xp.

Other Thoughts: To get triple boot to work used "system commander" to add xp pro, then had to turn off system commander and let Suse Linux use its own setup and currently booting from GRUB. Note: had to turn on IDE compatibility mode in BIOS to the the multiboot to fly. Suse 11.1 did very well with drivers, in fact I used that and vista to figure out which xp drivers were mangled. Mostly using XP. Works for pcmcia cards (parallel n serial) with Express card to PCMCIA "Duel" [their spelling] adapter. Couldn't get old Liveview (PCMCIA) TV to work so far. Except when traveling use a wireless mouse and keyboard and a viewsonic 22 in display. Bobcad runs fast on XP, have done some data acquisition with windaq (usb) and Picoscope (serial), havn't been able to test Mach3 yet but did get the parallel PCMCIA adapter to push a printer and to toggle some of the mach3 I/0. Mach3 runs ok, but havn't tested on a real machine yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Notebook!

Pros: It's a very quick notebook. Responds fast and overall I'm quite pleased with how vista runs on it. I'm still an XP fan, but vista does well on this. 4GB of ram is a serious upgrade as my last notebook had 1. Came with minimal bloatware from ASUS, as expected, and it was easily cleared with a pc decrapifier and norton removal tool. I got this system to be both a fast system to game on, but I also wanted it to have decent battery life - It gets about 2 hours with all the settings turned down, plenty for me and more than my last one. Decently large hard drive.

Cons: It came with norton preinstalled. Came with Vista 32 bit, and I only realized this yesterday, and I am thinking of reinstalling with a 64 bit copy I have lying around. It comes with a 5400 rpm hard drive, which is typical of notebooks, so I will be replacing it with a 7200 rpm disk, simply because I tend to do hard drive intensive tasks, and that extra speed is always nice. It also came with two partitions, both 125GB in size. The second partition was named "Data", which I quickly removed and resized the first partition. No sense creating extra hassle by having two partitions.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this laptop over nearly any other out there. ASUS is a reputable brand, and I will stick with their name. I have always purchased motherboards from them, and I have been nothing but satisfied. The layout of the system is also really good, every component can be accessed via the bottom. It's size also makes it more portable while still having a very good screen resolution. It did weigh a little more than I expected, but it's not overly heavy like my last one.
Put this one on the top of your consideration list - you will not be disappointed!

2 out of 5 eggsDon't Waste Your Money!

Pros: Very fast, beautiful graphics

Cons: Cheaply made. My cd drive has already busted and now the left touchpad mouse button is stuck. All of these problems happened after six months of ownership and have gotten worse since. I would think a lifetime of a computer should be much longer than that.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy Asus, they are cheap junk!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Fast, light, compact, plays games well (I LAN W3 frequently, and it can play source games (TF2, etc.) on high @ ~40 FPS...pretty nice

Cons: Webcam is kind of junk, but I didn't use it much anyway

Other Thoughts: I am really impressed by Asus. About a month after I got my laptop the screen started to flicker and become unresponsive. It got to the point where if I did not apply pressure to the back of the screen, it would fade to white. I filed a RMA, expecting to see my laptop in a few weeks. What happened may be because of the Christmas season, I don't know, but there was a rocket-fast two day return on my laptop. The total amount of time I didn't have it was about four days. They ended up replacing the LCD and video card. To get it here, they shipped it overnight express. Asus, I am very impressed and a very happy costumer.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This laptop is great. I love the size and it does not get hot as some laptops sometimes do. The screen is clear when looking straight into it. Having 4GB memory is nice if I switch to 64-bit Vista. This laptop comes with a great video card for standard gaming.

Cons: It runs Vista. The keys have a hard time keeping up when typing. I have to constantly correct what I type and the built-in mouse touchpad has a tendency to pick up my thumbs while I type. I don't have very large hands, so I see this as being an issue for others.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop for standard use and mild gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS, enough said...

Pros: ASUS, warranty, 4MB, performance...

Cons: No 64 bit Vista, :(

Other Thoughts: If you know computers, ASUS is the way to go for any components as long as you can afford them. This replaced an older laptop for my Mom who had her other one for 4 years and decided to upgrade.

ASUS is hands down got great customer service and great quality. I was able to order components if they failed on her old laptop and ASUS was great at helping me find the parts. The parts were extremely well priced and I did not have to pay outrageous hourly fees to some High school kid to do the work a monkey can do. If you aren't very good with troubleshooting and putting things back together, ASUS will still take care of you at a reasonable rate if outside your warranty. I have been buying parts from ASUS for over 12 years now, Motherboard, Video Cards, CD/DVD drives, Barebone systems, PDA, and they are the BEST, Great partner for NEWEGG as they are the Best at what they do also.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine

Pros: Runs Vista very well, as well as Office 2007 and every Steam game (Half-Life game/mod) at least 60-70 FPS. Gets about 2-4 hours of battery life depending on usage and power settings. Without gaming or watching movies I would expect about 3 hrs 15 mins with wireless enabled- so it's great for class. Looks really sharp as I've had nothing but complements from my college classmates when I bring it to class. Wireless has VERY good range. Webcam swivels and looks very nice. The screen doesn't look great from the side so if you're looking for security there ya go.

Cons: If you use the computer on battery in high performance mode, expect to get at MOST 2 hr 15 minute of battery life. Built-in mic doesn't sound spectacular, nor do the speakers. Fingerprint scanner is a pain in the you-know-what but I don't have any other experience so it might not be worse than others.

Other Thoughts: GREAT buy for the money. Comes with an awesome warranty, exceeds expectations on campus and meets them in the gaming world.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Though it doesn't say it in the specs, THIS IS A CENTRINO 2 system. Battery life is pretty good when I use the battery saving mode. It does NOT have the ability to switch between onboard video and the dedicated video like some systems. I'm not sure if it has the turbocache. I think I get around 3 hours out of it, though I haven't really timed it. I will probably take out a memory stick and see if that helps extend battery life some more lol... 4 gigs is way more than I need. I removed several items from the startup to cut down on memory usage, it runs around 700MB with vista. I also installed XP but so far I haven't had any major problems with Vista (though I hate the fact that they have made windows more complicated for nothing). I only use the internet and Microsoft Word (2003) and it never crashes on me. The screen looks good, and the webcam works nicely too

Cons: Dedicated volume control would have been perfect. As it is, you must use TWO hands to use the keyboard shortcut, or else do it from within windows. Also, I have experienced the problem someone else mentioned with key strokes occasionally not being registered. The black plastic picks up fingerprints way too easily, I try to keep it clean because it looks embarassing sometimes!!! Lastly, it is a little on the heavy side, and also thick.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS F8 Series Notebook

Pros: This notebook is great. It has a high security that includes the fingerprint reader and the webcam can take images of you and log you in. So if anyone else were to try to log on then they'll have a hard time. This laptop has magnificent display. I love the functions of it and it is a great laptop. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Cons: The speakers placement isn't all that convenient because it is like under your arms when you type so you might not be able to hear it as well as if it were on the top near the screen. It's not much of a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Great notebook.
Great Display
Great Price.
Fast Delivery.
