The F8Va from Asus revolutionizes the way you get your entertainment on the go. Plus it has features to increase your privacy and productivity. The 14" screen has Splendid video technology with 5 modes and 3 skin tone settings to optimize the image depending on what you are viewing.

The webcam also works with face recognition software so you can log on with just a look, or for additional security use the fingerprint reader by the touchpad. There are also Boot and HDD passwords to decrease your vulnerability.

All of this functionality is great, but useless in isolation. So, there's a plethora of wired and wireless connection options. Circling the shell are 5xUSB, 1xFireWire, 1xRJ-11, 1xGigabit Ethernet, 1xHDMI and more. Wireless connectivity includes 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth V2.1.

4 out of 5 eggsNice laptop

Pros: I've had this laptop for over 4 years. It is still a very decent machine, but it is now showing its age in the gaming area. Everyday tasks this computer is really nice to use.

Cons: The battery has never really lasted that long. I get maybe an hour and a half at best. Also, when I upgraded to Windows 7 all of the laptop specific buttons stopped working. And eventually the Ethernet port and DVD drive. I played around with it for a long time and never found a solution.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I should have kept Vista on it. It was a nice back in the day, but I think its time to either sell it or retire it.

Pros: this computer is AMAZING!!! Upgrading from a 2 1/2 year old Acer. This computer has excellent performance for the price and Asus has a quality that cannot be matched in the home PC market (except maybe by Apple). Only major bloatware are Norton and Office trials and the Asus utilities are very useful, so I'm going to keep most of them installed. This computer has a good balance of performance and mobility and is at an excellent price. This computer fits my wants and needs perfectly (and I got it on sale, so that helps)

Cons: Not a big Vista fan, but then again, who is??? I may try to install XP and/or Ubuntu in the future.

Other than that, I've got nothing bad to say about the computer

Other Thoughts: For the issues with the CTRL and FN keys being switched: this is the same configuration that my Acer had, so it works fine for me. Also, the glossy surface isn't going to stay glossy for very long, but that's to be expected. I'm OK with the 32-bit OS for compatibility, and I could always upgrade to 64-bit in the future. All in all an excellent machine that I would always recommend. NEWEGG ROCKS!!!!!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Performance comparable to 15 inchers, plays modern games adequately, runs cool throughout, lots of usb ports, power button positioned on the side was a good idea, HDMI out to a home theater system makes many of the PS3's features obsolete.

Cons: Unable to output 5.1 audio in games. Latest HDMI drivers and Catalyst drivers do not fix this issue. FN button is placed where the CTRL button should be, which is a daily annoyance.

Other Thoughts: The performance to price ratio is astounding.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value - WOW!

Pros: I wanted another laptop because my kids kept wanting to play games on my desktop. Based on the reviews below, I decided to buy this laptop.
For the price ($1099), I am amazed. This laptop comes with a cool case, mouse and can play any of the latest games because of it's T9400 processor and 1 Gig VRAM graphics card. As mentioned below, the hard disk comes divided into two partitions so you can dual boot with XP. (Make sure you can find XP drivers before you do this--Newegg appears to sell an XP driver disk for $50).
So far, I've played CS:S and it runs great. When you compare comparable laptops at Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc, this laptop gives you more for the money.
The warranty is awesome--1 yr accident coverage covers spills, dropping the laptop, fire, etc. and pays for overnight shipping both ways. In addition it comes with a 2-yr warranty on the laptop itself.
ASUS Express Gate that allows you to run a browser, Skype, online games in a built-in Linux environment is co

Cons: Really don't have anything negative to say. This is a great laptop!

Other Thoughts: Other cool features:
- Built-in swivel mounted web cam and mic
- HDMI output jack to view on any LCD or plasma monitor
- fingerprint scanner for easy log in/ID

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Enjoy

Pros: Boots quick. Is very snappy with everything it does. Has a lot of cool program Asus made for the laptop. Only $1,119.00!

Cons: 6 Cell Battery. Can't upgrade video card. Doesn't come with Vista 64. Right when I got the laptop I put Vista 64 on it but it was slow and couldn't run games well. So I put the original back on it and amazingly it runs so much better. I'm not sure if it was drivers and everything.

Other Thoughts: I really do love this computer. It's very fast and can run my favorite games just fine. It can almost run WoW on the highest settings possible.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a good choice for Linux

Pros: Fast CPU, lots of RAM, fast GPU, big HDD.

Cons: Under Linux (Ubuntu 8.10):

LiveCD install will not work "out of the box" as the GPU is not correctly supported by the driver on the Ubuntu LiveCD. Boots to white screen.

Suspend/resume/hibernate does not work.

Sound card requires special parameters to work.

External video connector cannot be used to connect a second display for dual-head usage.

Wireless card is detected and enabled but does not work.

5 out of 5 eggsWow... just wow

Pros: This laptop can run anything I throw at it with ease! I run oracle and apache webserver on this while playing WOW on max settings and still see 60+fps.
I love the webcam swivel ability and the keyboard is natural to type on.
The fingerprint reader is very fast and accurate I can scan my finger way faster than I could type a password.
Laptop is quiet, runs cool, and lightweight!
The carrying case is also quite nice. I have enough room in it for my laptop and a notebook and supplies for school.
I love the fact that this laptop has an HDMI out on it, I just ordered a 15 ft HDMI cable so I can hook it up to my 46in lcd tv (which I have done with a shorter cable already and it looks simply amazing compared to the old methods on older boxes)

The battery life is about 1.5-2 hours running WoW. 2.5 if you are just surfing the net. I guess you could upgrade to a 9cell battery but those cost around $150.

Cons: Fingerprints on the outside but who really cares? Nothing else really.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, cheap, gotta love ASUS's warranty and insurance out of the box! (covers drops/spills/fires/surgers). Buy a long HDMI cable if you have a big LCD/Plasma and you will love this laptop even more!

5 out of 5 eggsPower on the go

Pros: $1199 for Centrino 2. T9400 is very fast. RAM bandwidth is about 5300MB/s vs the Santa Rosa 4300MB/s? 320GB HDD is very nice. Screen is very nice, looks great. Getting a 3800 3DMark 06 score. It looks more stylish than what I am used to but well that should be a plus for many.

Cons: Well no legitimate ones yet. Yea a 320GB @7200 HDD would be nice but at the price sold can't have it all.

Other Thoughts: You can upgrade to 5-5-5-15 on NewEgg for about $50. You can also upgrade to @7200 HDD if you feel you need.

For the cost size and power/performance I do not see anyone doing better.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: The computer is pretty fast, it is a large difference from my AtholonXP 2800+. The video card is pretty good. I can play COD4 on high(still a bit slow) and Crysis plays ok on the max resolution and medium settings. The computer is quiet and doesn't get hot! The LCD is pretty nice as well it is larger than I was expecting but it is all good.

Cons: The touchpad is a pain in the neck, often when I am typing a brush it with my thumb and it messes the mouse up so I just disable it. The thing that is really annoying is the function button, it is right next to CTRL and I often end up hitting it and getting undesirable results.

Other Thoughts: Vista really sucks rocks, I dislike it so I need to find some XP drivers and try and dual boot this sucker.
