Size matters, no matter what anybody says, and sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 901 is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP Home Edition system with power to spare.
The 8.9" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. The smaller screen lets you easily use it on a plane or train. A 12GB SSD Flash drive has plenty of room for you work and entertainment files and has no moving parts so it saves power.
Designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g/n protocols. If there is no wireless signal, then plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats. You can use a Bluetooth headset or plug into the audio jacks.

Great new model
- Pros: Amazing battery life, great screen, updated case looks much higher quality than previous generation, Atom performance doesn't disappoint. Finally an integrated Wireless-N card!
- Cons: I did prefer the matte/eggshell finish on the previous model, and would also love to have the hires screen off the HP 2133.
- Other Thoughts: I had the 2133 on backorder from HP for a few weeks, and was told by the reps they had no idea when theyd be getting more...plus I keep reading how poor of performance the Via C7 has. The new Eee is a little more expensive, but with such better hardware (aside from the screen) its a no-brainer.
Did Microsoft get to Asus or NewEgg?
- Pros: Theoretically, there's a Linux version available. Won't buy an EeePC 901 that includes an extortionist fee for LoseDoze ExPee since the "made for XP" sticker will be affixed to my toilet bowl.
- Cons: In practice, there does not seem to be a Linux version available.
- Other Thoughts: Ballmer wiped out the free software premise of the OLPC project. Now he's trying to do it to the Asus EeePC. When will the DoJ get serious with these extortionists?

- Pros: Small, light, SSD allows full boot in under 30s. comes with case.
- Cons: In practice, battery only gets about 6.5hrs with wireless on. 4GB disk fills up VERY quick if windows is not altered. 8GB SSD is slower than expected.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure to make your default program files directory on D: instead of C: or your 4GB C: drive will quickly completely fill up with windows updates and programs (Asus provides a utility for this on their support and updates website). Wish it had a keyboard light like my thinkpads for working in the dark. Touchpad buttons also take some breaking in.
- Pros: Battery life on this thing is great for me. The Asus interface to control the wireless connectivity is very intuitive. The Bluetooth link is a great plus as well. The touchpad is sized just right.
- Cons: This netbook is advertised as having a 12GB hdd, its really a 4GB and an 8GB, this is kind of confusing.
- Other Thoughts: This thing is teeny tiny, almost fits in your pocket. And like always Newegg gets it here amazingly fast!
Not Bad
- Pros: Nice Netbook. I mean you can't play games like FC2 or anything like that. But with the SSD drive it boots fast. My niece has a Eee PC to, but she has got a 120gig SATA, and it takes for ever to boot. This has a 12 gig SSD in it.
- Cons: Asus partitioned the SSD, they made drive C just 3 gig's, and D is 9 gigs. With what it came installed with and getting updates from Microsoft for XP. C drive is almost maxed out. Microsoft better make smaller updates and hotfixes or they won't be able to install.
- Other Thoughts: No where in the spec's did it say anything about partitioning the SSD like that. They did it backward.
If they had not partitioned it like that, it would have got the other 2 eggs.
