Size matters. No matter what anybody says, sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 1000H is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP Home Edition system with power to spare. An 80GB hard drive has plenty of room for you work and entertainment files.
The 10" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. The smaller screen lets you easily use it on a plane or train. The keyboard goes all the way out to the edge of the case and is 95% of the size of a standard keyboard so using it will feel normal.
Designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g/n protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats. You can use a Bluetooth headset or plug into the audio jacks.

Great machine, super battery life
- Pros: Not too big, not to small. The keyboard accommodates touch typing, and the screen is large enough that even middle-aged eyes like mine can see what they're doing. Performace is surprisingly snappy, and battery life is eternal. These days you don't really need an optical drive in your laptop, so I'd call this the perfect, economical solution for frequent travellers.
- Cons: One day after I received it in the mail, Newegg dropped the price by $100. The early adopters curse strikes again!
- Pros: Smaller then a typical full-size laptop, stylish design, very bright LED-backlit screen, nearly full-size keyboard, multi-touch pad, built-in bluetooth & 802.11n, 5+ hour battery life, 80 gb hard drive storage space.
- Cons: Significantly larger and heavier then original Eee 701/900. Keyboard flexes and some keys on the right side rattle. The finish is somewhat fingerprint prone, but not as bad as others claim. The included restore DVD only restores the OEM hard drive image, it doesn't seem like you can make a fresh XP install with it.
- Other Thoughts: Compared to the Eee 701, the 1000h does not get as hot, even in super performance mode. The fan is completely silent, and the hard drive is only barely audible.
The manual is very well written, it seems like it is not just a translation from a Chinese manual as is typical but written from scratch by a native speaker. Also, the XP driver installer program on the support DVD works better and is less buggy then the 701 version.
The keyboard seems to have some QC issue. The keyboard itself is fine, but there seems to be some play between the board and the tray underneath. As a result, there is some keyboard flex and some keys rattle as they rebound against the tray. 4 eggs.

EeePC Netbook
- Pros: I have had this product for over 4 months. The feature set is the best of basically any other netbook. Wireless N, 1.3MP Webcam, Bluetooth, 6 cell battery...I really wanted the 10 inch size, figuring the 8.9 was too small, especially in the keyboard. I get every bit of 4-5 hours out of this, with full screen brightness, bluetooth on, wireless on, whole 9 yards. Even better turning some stuff off/down and going into a battery savings mode. Great product, I don't regret the purchase. I have one high end Dell laptop, and another high end desktop, and I still get all kinds of use out of this. I do a lot of Skype audio/video and web browsing. Get the latest drivers, everything runs so solid.
- Cons: Don't know of a con. I guess it's all personal preference. This thing is great.
- Other Thoughts: Shipping could always be faster. Getting to FL always seems to take a bit.
Delightful travel companion
- Pros: This little travel book has changed my college career!! I've gone almost paperless and have been able to turn notes in class into wonderful papers. The included M$ Works software is real handy and works well for those who remember older versions of office. The wireless capability is real slick and the range you can get from the WAP before going to low connectivity is astounding. XP home install is clean, and runs well.
- Cons: The battery wiggles a little and occasionally the touch pad will miss read a gesture. Keyboard layout is a quick learning curve, main problem is right shift placement.
- Other Thoughts: For the price and capability this laptop is almost a must have!!
Gets the Job Done
- Pros: It is small and it has a great battery life. This machine runs windows xp like a champ. It is great for basic surfing, word processing, and even media playing. My girlfriend uses it as her main laptop and she loves it.
- Cons: It is heavier than I expected, and it has some trouble running the Zune software.. but i think that is just due to bad coding on Microsoft's part because the Zune software is even glitchy on my $1000 plus computer. The keyboard doesn't have the best layout. Also, we already had to send it in due to a defective touchpad and intermittent power failure. I only took off one star for this because I am sure we just got a dud, and so far Asus technical support has been very helpful. They are replacing it for the cost of shipping.
- Other Thoughts: This is a great little machine but if you are going to use it as a main computer consider getting an external mouse and keyboard. Don't expect to do any gaming on it either.
