Size matters. No matter what anybody says, sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 1000H is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP Home Edition system with power to spare. An 80GB hard drive has plenty of room for you work and entertainment files.

The 10" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. The smaller screen lets you easily use it on a plane or train. The keyboard goes all the way out to the edge of the case and is 95% of the size of a standard keyboard so using it will feel normal.

Designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g/n protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats. You can use a Bluetooth headset or plug into the audio jacks.

  • newegg Ultra Portable Netbook Powered by Intel Atom Processor Equipped with an Intel Atom processor, Intel's smallest and lowest power processor, the Asus Eee PC 1000H is extremely compact and lightweight while delivering the power and performance you need for full online freedom.

5 out of 5 eggsEeePC Netbook

Pros: I have had this product for over 4 months. The feature set is the best of basically any other netbook. Wireless N, 1.3MP Webcam, Bluetooth, 6 cell battery...I really wanted the 10 inch size, figuring the 8.9 was too small, especially in the keyboard. I get every bit of 4-5 hours out of this, with full screen brightness, bluetooth on, wireless on, whole 9 yards. Even better turning some stuff off/down and going into a battery savings mode. Great product, I don't regret the purchase. I have one high end Dell laptop, and another high end desktop, and I still get all kinds of use out of this. I do a lot of Skype audio/video and web browsing. Get the latest drivers, everything runs so solid.

Cons: Don't know of a con. I guess it's all personal preference. This thing is great.

Other Thoughts: Shipping could always be faster. Getting to FL always seems to take a bit.

5 out of 5 eggsDelightful travel companion

Pros: This little travel book has changed my college career!! I've gone almost paperless and have been able to turn notes in class into wonderful papers. The included M$ Works software is real handy and works well for those who remember older versions of office. The wireless capability is real slick and the range you can get from the WAP before going to low connectivity is astounding. XP home install is clean, and runs well.

Cons: The battery wiggles a little and occasionally the touch pad will miss read a gesture. Keyboard layout is a quick learning curve, main problem is right shift placement.

Other Thoughts: For the price and capability this laptop is almost a must have!!

4 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done

Pros: It is small and it has a great battery life. This machine runs windows xp like a champ. It is great for basic surfing, word processing, and even media playing. My girlfriend uses it as her main laptop and she loves it.

Cons: It is heavier than I expected, and it has some trouble running the Zune software.. but i think that is just due to bad coding on Microsoft's part because the Zune software is even glitchy on my $1000 plus computer. The keyboard doesn't have the best layout. Also, we already had to send it in due to a defective touchpad and intermittent power failure. I only took off one star for this because I am sure we just got a dud, and so far Asus technical support has been very helpful. They are replacing it for the cost of shipping.

Other Thoughts: This is a great little machine but if you are going to use it as a main computer consider getting an external mouse and keyboard. Don't expect to do any gaming on it either.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: Sturdy build quality, small, cheap, long battery life, bright easy to read screen, sata hdd, nice wifi card + bluetooth capable. Your major components are easily accesible for upgrade purposes.

Cons: The right shift key (as many have noted). Fingerprints aren't that bad because they give you a microfiber rag that is really good at removing them. The keyboard was not near as hard to get used to as people say. Higher screen resolution and a bit more horsepower would have been nice, but who really cares at this price.

Other Thoughts: You really can't beat this little internet surfer for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsCool little critter

Pros: I use it on the road for broadcast remotes..sound-byte playback.... and Skype. Tiny, great battery life....stable sound. Good enough as a minimal portable studio and sound editing. Conversation starter. Ad a 2 gig ram strip and you're ready to go

Cons: the video camera makes me look fat.... it must be defective :)

5 out of 5 eggsVery satisfied with purchase!

Pros: First of all, let me say that I love my new 1000h. It is everything that I expected, and more. Price was great, but it went down after I got it. Does everything I need in a laptop(writing papers for class, going on the internet, watching videos). Power consumption is eggcellent(hehe) with power-saving mode, I can get 5 hours, 7 with WLAN and bluetooth turned off. SD card reader slot is great, 3 USB ports is enough for me, headset jack is near the front of the netbook. Multi-touch works wonderfully, 2 user definable hotkeys are great as well. Replaced 80gb HD with 320gb WD scorpio and replaced the default ram with a 2gb stick. Both upgrades took less than 3 mins total from unscrewing the bottom panel to replacing the screws. Integreated bluetooth and wireless N are awesome, not everyone else can say that about their laptops. Dolby Surround Room speakers can fill my dorm room with clear sound no problem, and they're impressively loud.

Cons: The left side of the keyboard goes down a little too far when I press keys there(minor annoyance), right shift key takes a little getting used to. Built in webcam output looks like someone painted my face with pastels. When I use it on my lap, it tends to get a little hot, but thats probably because the vents are blocked.

Other Thoughts: Touch typing on the keyboard is fine, though my hands might be a bit smaller than most. Comes bundled with StarOffice(openoffice derivitave). Mouseclick buttons are harder to click than the new "vista style" buttons you see on most laptops these days, but I think they're fine. Runs World of Warcraft at 10-25 fps using super performance mode, drops to 5ish in cities. Whenever I take it out and around campus(daily because it fits in my bag like they were made for each other) I get compliments and questions. I highly reccomend this to anyone that needs a laptop for anything besides heavy CAD rendering or gaming(that's what your desktop is for =P) And for the price, there's no going wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: For the money, this pc can't be beat! 450 bucks for bluetooth, wireless n, 80 gigs. I love the size of it. It makes my 14.1 inch laptop look huge. The quality seems to be top-notch. It appears to be assembled very well and the keyboard has a quality feel. This thing feels like a 1,500 dollar laptop. I am not kidding. I am very satisifed. For a pc to haul to classes, this cannot be beat.

Cons: The screen could come out to the edge of the case, which it does not but I don't expect everything for 450 bucks.

Other Thoughts: bluetooth configuration of headphones and cell phone is not super easy. I had play with it a few minutes to get things working but now they work great. Oh, the built in camera quality is so-so but those things usually suck anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsCute little thing, even if DOA

Pros: Cute little thing, even if DOA. Thanks Newegg for exchanging it for me, hope that I have better luck with the replacement. You guys are the greatest!

Cons: No video--fan powered up, but nothing else, right out of the box it was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I selected the Windows XP option with the standard hard drive rather than the Linex solid state drive. I would have preferred the SSD, but no XP offerred. Perhaps now I know why!
