1 out of 5 eggseh?

Pros: perdy screen, nice hardware (9650gt + p8600 + 4GB).

Cons: I got this lappy with high hopes, b/c I really like ASUS mobos. First thing I did was wipe the hdd, and install a clean copy of Vista sp1. the laptop ran fine for all the driver installs, and I gave it to my uncle, who day trades. The laptop would work fine w/wireless internet, but after a few days the wired internet slowed down and finally completely quit working. He couldn't figure it out so I tried everything in network settings but could not get it to work. desperate, I reformatted and installed vista and it worked again! then 3 days later it slowed until it finally stopped working... again. I contacted asus and they told me to reformat again and to not turn off windows updates. I havn't tried this yet, but am I supposed to not ever get any windows updates?
...probably gonna RMA, hopefully I don't get one with this problem again.

Other Thoughts: my uncle lost 20k during the weekend the laptop stopped working, b/c it was his only way to check his stocks when he was in valdex, ak.... X(

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Phenomenal specs for the price range, don't think you can do better at twice the price. The keyboard is nice, especially the 10-key. Tons of bells and whistles, I really appreciate having the different power consumption settings. Screen is beautiful, and laptop overall looks fierce.

Using laptop for gaming, mainly WAR, almost never lags, only in really heavy PvP situations. Then almost any system has problems with that.

Almost forgot, the fingerprint scanner is nice, works like a champ, not sure how much more secure it is than my passwords, but its faster.

Cons: This thing is a dust/fingerprint magnet. As previously stated in other reviews the ports are in some weird spots but overall not terrible, I am sure there was a good reason.

Not a huge fan of vista, but after I trimmed it down and installed some of my own software its running fine and I can't complain.

Other Thoughts: What are you waiting for?

Buy it

1 out of 5 eggsJunk port chipsets and no XP support

Pros: Lots of good features and fat stats for such a relatively cheap laptop, but there's a reason for that....

Cons: All of the ports and their chipsets on this notebook are rubbish. For instance, my firewire chipset doesn't even have a name, it's simply a generic "OHCI compliant" device. As a result, it's incompatible with my external sound card and a lot of other firewire devices that run fine on other machines.

Additionally, Vista is still a bloated monster of an operating system that turns the simplest tasks into a processing nightmare. Unfortunately, this thing doesn't come with XP drivers. What's more, Asus refuses to even offer tech support to notebooks with XP installed on them. I after hunting down all my drivers manually and troubleshooting for a week or so, I ran into some optimization problems and when I contacted tech support they basically told me I was on my own. Thanks Asus, you suck.

Other Thoughts: If I could get all my bootleg drivers to run optimally, this laptop would probably be an okay machine. But since my own configuring has created a number of internal processing conflicts, the notebook's resources can't be used to their full potential. The saddest part is that even with half my drivers interfering with one another and not processing correctly/failing/etc., XP still runs quicker and with less hassle than Vista.

Bottom line, get a laptop that OFFERS XP SUPPORT, because Asus apparently doesn't think it should have to compensate for the inadequacy of its default operating system.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is an awesome Laptop!!!!

Pros: I really love this laptop. It has the power I need in a cpu. Professional looking.
I looked and looked at all the laptops on Newegg, and spent weeks on my decision. I am very happy with it.

I would buy another Asus laptop with no question on the quality.

Cons: The sound on the laptop could be louder. If you are in a very quite room, it's not bad, but if you have any background noise, the sound drops off quickly.

It takes a little time to get use to the keyboard. The keys seem to be close enough together with not much indent on the face of the keys, so that you shift to other keys and not realize it.

5 out of 5 eggswinVista64

Pros: Just to precursor this, I am a network/computer technician. I saw most of the other buyer’s idea to load Windows Vista 64 on this particular laptop. So, I did. Yes, you get the full 4GB of memory. I know this: you never truly know a computer system until you have had to rebuild it. If ASUS builds computers like this with the tools that they give you; I will never own another laptop. Strong words, yes. But I rebuilt the entire thing in less than an hour with all drivers, utilities, AVG AV, MS office Pro, and settings for my system. I have never had a better experience on any computer rebuild in the past 12 years I have been doing this. Performance is very decent. I am quite impressed.

Cons: I have found that the power cord on the left side of the laptop is in a strange position. I don’t care for it, but it isn’t bad…. I’m just afraid that it will get caught on something. Don’t get me wrong, it feels solid and secure. In my experience it just isn’t the best place for it.

Other Thoughts: Buy the MoGo mouse with it, yeah its 80 bucks but its sick! Express port for this particular laptop FYI

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: Great for price. Excellent fast system (not a gamer but wanted it to last a while before obsolete). Start up in about 40 seconds from shut down, 5 seconds from sleep (even after about 15 programs added). WIFI & bluetooth good. Screen good. Newegg delivery good.

Cons: Sent off rebate stuff a month ago and they show no record of having received it. Hope it's not a scam and they really do give a rebate (I jumped through all the hoops).

Other Thoughts: To get 1 year accidental damage coverage you have to go through a lot (but it has gotta be worth it anyway). It is NOT automatic by any means, so be advised.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for price

Pros: Nice display, not too much bloatware. does what its supposed to do. kinda on the bulky side. power management adds some battery life. lots of bells and whistles. air ionizer probably just a battery drain. get 9 cell battery if you have extra cash and need more portability.

Cons: Came with one stuck pixel. Not noticeable, not worth sending back, even though asus has zero dead pixel policy. left speaker blew out, not going to replace it. speakers were junk anyway.

Other Thoughts: upgrade to vista 64. vid card is gddr2 not gddr3. some models of the vidcard are ddr3.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Laptop!

Pros: Great laptop. I literally spent 20-25 hours over the last month or so reviewing laptops. Asus was simply unbeatable for the price range I was in. Best specs for the money, period! Great warranty and a nice rebate as well. New Egg was fantastic as usual! Laptop is quick and works well. Would highly recommend!

Cons: Some bloatware but it is easily removed!

5 out of 5 eggsGood, but I think I received a faulty product

Pros: Amazing specifications for the price and plenty of extra features.

Cons: 1) Absolutely HORRIBLE wireless range. The speed seems to be fine, but I pretty much have to be sitting on top of my router to get 4 bars(5 seems to be impossible to get). I have updated my wireless drivers, but the problem persists. As soon as I walk into another room in my house I lose signal entirely. For the record, others in my household get roughly 4 bars of signal where I receive none.

2) One of the lights on my volume control recently went out. This is a minor issue, but still an annoyance since it has been in my possession for less than two months.

Other Thoughts: I did not dock any eggs because I think that I just happened to have gotten a bad laptop. I am very satisfied with the product otherwise, but I will certainly need to get in contact with someone about these issues.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but Awkward

Pros: As other reviewers say, it has excellent specs for the price. No need to say much more.

Cons: The design of the laptop is VERY awkward. It has headphone, mic and eSata jacks/ports on the front. So, the cables are coming out towards you, they are in your way and overall makes your desk look ugly. In addition, there are no ports on the back of the machine. The rest of the ports, including the power, are on the sides, making the overall appearance of the laptop look ugly.

The screen can be too bright. That can be a good thing; however, even with brightness turned down, the "blacks" and "darks" on the screen still "glow" because of the back lighting. So if you are used to more overpriced models, you might end up being slightly unhappy about the quality of the screen.

The size of the machine is huge. I used a 17 inch laptop before. In terms of bulkiness, this laptop doesn't fall short. Not to mention it barely fits in the carrying bag provided.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop; it has great specs and is very affordable.. for those specs. But if you are keen on looks and portability this is not your best answer. If you are ok with cables between you and the laptop and won't be doing a lot of traveling with it, it is a best buy.
