5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop...BUT

Pros: Great laptop,
all specs are pristine.
great desktop replacement.
HDMI port is a HUGE plus

Cons: well heres the thing. im going to college so i wanted a laptop that could alos serve as a desktop, which it does flawlessly. but on the other hand i play ALOT of games and ill tell you right now that if your a gamer try and shoot for a 9800 laptop. much better gaming performance. im not saying this dosent run games at all im saying it could be better. besides that its an amazing machine.

Other Thoughts: overall im happy with it. i think the 1g 9650 is a gimmik though.

5 out of 5 eggsMarch 05, 2009

Pros: This is a solid built computer and looks great.
The price is a bargain for the equipment that comes with it.

Cons: NONE that I have found!

Other Thoughts: This was an easy purchase from Newegg and it arrived in 3 days!
The carrying case that was included is great plus a mouse was included.
I thought the two year warranty and one year accident was a bonus also.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop for Price

Pros: Great laptop! Boots fast, minimal bloatware, faster than my last desktop. Running MS Office Ultimate 2007, Vista Ultimate x64, ArcGIS 9.3, and SQL Server Express 2008.

Cons: None - it meets my needs.

Other Thoughts: This machine is the perfect compliment to my I7 desktop system, allowing me to take some of my work into the field. I am not replacing my desktop with this one so it does not need to do everything my new desktop does. As for how readily it collects smudges, no problem, I know how to clean up - at least they are easy to find.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Same core components of higher priced M70vn models, just less options (no dual hard drives, Bluray, TV) thus same performance for much less $$$

-Dual hard drive *option* is very nice - Requires tray M70SV-1A from asus online store

-BIG 17" Native 1920x1200 is great

-5 Speaker Altec Lansing. Sounds *decent* once enhancements were disabled.
And remember...It's a laptop, can't expect theater sound from a bunch of 1" speakers...c'mon!

-Carrying case +mouse included+lcd cloth

-2 Year Warranty + 1 yr Accident

-Runs cooler than most notebooks I've used

-Cam rotates

Cons: -Vista, UAC

-2 Partitions

-Tray required for additional drive - and currently out of stock

-5400rpm drive

-Light area in the LCD like others reported, no big deal really, but noticeable at times

-Glossy - easy smudge, static attracts dust, scratches easily

-Face recognition works great...till the light, your hair, tan etc... changes. Doesn't take much to throw it off

-Latch is a bit cumbersome

Ok I'm really nit picking for bad things at this point...It's really great!

Other Thoughts: Immediately swapped the 320/5400 drive for a 320/7200, using the original (Seagate)as secondary for a total of 640gig

Loaded Vista 64 Ultimate, newest drivers etc..
Vista Scores:
Proc: 5.4
RAM: 5.9
Graphics: 4.8
Gaming Graphics: 5.3
Hard Drive: 5.7

(Remember this is NOT the HD it came with - I installed this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116160 )

Searched for a few weeks before settling on this one, the bang for the buck...and accident coverage closed the deal for me.

I'll be using it for...
-A desktop replacement at home Paired with a 42" Aquos 1080P(also great as a portable HD media player)
-For storm chasing (17" is great for radars)
-When away for the Army(face & finger print security a must)

Also...this thing is bigger than you think. For reference...the bag, charger, Laptop, mouse and nothing else...is like carrying around 10 uncooked 16oz steaks

5 out of 5 eggsPretty decent for the money

Pros: Rcently my desktop computer died after being a great rig for the past 6 years. Instead of purchasing another desktop, I decided it would be nice to have a laptop around the house. After doing a significant deal of research (visiting many pre-packaged and custom build sites), I honestly believe this machine gives you the most bang for your buck. The 4 gigs of RAM allows the user more than enough bandwidth for multi-tasking. The processors are smoking fast (one of the best dual cores on the market), and the 1gig video cards is great for photographers, graphic designers, and gamers alike.

Another thing I really appreciated is that the laptop came with very little bloat-ware installed (the only think you need to remove is Norton). It is not uncommon for non-custom built PCs to come with tons of garbage software pre-loaded which bog down performance and are painstaking to remove.

Lastly, the HDMI port is awesome when watching movies from your PC to your HDTV, quality comes out fanta

Cons: On the other side of the coin... There are a few things I don't like (and yes Windows Vista is one of them). I have never been a big fan of Vista for many of the same reasons which have already been mentioned by other reviewers (absolute memory vacuum).

Other than the clunky OS, the fingerprint reader is a cool idea, but doesn't work well at all.

The speakers on this thing are garbage (its a laptop so I am guessing you didn't buy this unit for audio quality) I plan on buying aftermarket logitech speakers.

The laptop is pretty heavy which shouldn't surprise you since it packs a 17" screen.

Lastly, I really don't like how latch system works on this unit. The latch pushes inward rather than sliding to the side and tends to stick sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Really there isn't a whole lot I have to complain about and for the price tag on this laptop, one would be truly silly and delusional to complain. In short for the hardware you get, the price cannot be beat (believe me I tried). Hope this helped make your easy decision, even easier!

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Battery life is good, speakers are above average, touchpad is good and the keyboard feels good while typing. Very fast processor and having two hard drives is definitely a big plus.

Cons: Although bright, the LCD is a bit grainy. The speakers could be a little louder. The keyboard sometimes misses keys when you type and it's due to the Synaptics touchpad driver.

Other Thoughts: When trying to burn a CD or DVD on this with the BIOS set to AHCI mode, the DVD burner would hang while burning and I would have to shut down and restart. After setting the mode to COMPATIBLE (IDE) and reinstalling Vista, it worked prefectly. I've owned this for around six months now and it's been a great laptop that I use every day. I will definitely buy another one of these in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Awesome

Pros: -Vista 64
-Fingerprint reader(very nice)
-Decent sound(especially for a laptop)
-Not a whole lot of Bloatware(at least I use a couple)
-Very fast(I was testing it out with this.... iTunes(playing of course), Youtube(playing), movie in DVD drive(playing), and... the kicker... ran Photoshop(while editing). very nice!!!
-Does NOT get hot at all!
... Plus it looks good! I get complements all the time.

Cons: The only two things I can think of are... Some bloatware (NORTON), and it takes fingerprints to a whole new level (easily solved with a 5 dollar microfiber cloth...)

Other Thoughts: This is a fast and beautiful laptop. I would buy again and again! If you're thinking about buying........... Do it already!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: This laptop boots quickly, runs quietly, has decent sound, very nice screen resolution. Graphics card displays well. I like the keyboard and the full numeric keyboard as well. I like the fingerprint reader although if I've just washed my hands it sometimes has trouble with recognition.

Cons: Not a con for me, but this is a full sized laptop, so if you buy a 17" laptop, it's gonna be big and heavy. I've got a dedicated tv tray and lap tray for it.

Other Thoughts: Big and beautiful! I'm very pleased with this computer.

5 out of 5 eggsLaptop Recommended!

Pros: Can't say enough how great it is to buy something from the web that truely lives up to my high expectations! This computer is great and serves every purpose, the specs don't lie, it is a fast and stable machine.

Cons: Heavy, but I don't move it too much so it's alright.

Other Thoughts: For the price this computer is an amazing deal. Glad I bought mine.
